From 9am to 9pm, across all four days, our presenters including Bill Turnbull, Anne- Marie Minhall, Rob Cowan and Catherine Bott (above, clockwise from top left) are unveiling the 300 pieces of music the nation has chosen as its favourites, with that allimportant number one revealed just before 9pm on Easter Monday. 2 WEEK 14 SATURDAY 31 MARCH 9am to 9pm: THE CLASSIC FM HALL OF FAME Across the Easter weekend, we continue to count down the world s biggest annual survey of classical music tastes: The Classic FM Hall of Fame. From 9am to 9pm, across all four days, we re unveiling the 300 pieces of music the nation has chosen as its favourites, with that all-important number one revealed just before 9pm on Easter Monday. 9am to 12pm: BILL TURNBULL 12pm to 3pm: ANNE-MARIE MINHALL 3pm to 6pm: CATHERINE BOTT 6pm to 9pm: ROB COWAN 9pm to 10pm: BLOWERS AROUND BRITAIN with HENRY BLOFELD Tonight, Henry s musical voyage initially takes him to the Land of Song, as he features the output of some of Wales s finest composers, past and present. He will include Arwel Hughes s lush and evocative Fantasia in A minor, along with bassbaritone Bryn Terfel singing Men of Harlech. Henry then journeys to the West-Country via Bristol s Samuel Wesley. Music with Cornish connections, meanwhile, includes Malcolm Arnold s brilliant, canny portrayal of the Padstow Lifeboat, Anne Dudley s music for Poldark, and an extract from the Gilbert & Sullivan classic The Pirates of Penzance. 2

3 SUNDAY 1 APRIL 9am to 9pm: THE CLASSIC FM HALL OF FAME All day today, we continue to count down the world s biggest annual survey of classical music tastes: The Classic FM Hall of Fame. From 9am to 9pm, across all four days of the Easter weekend, we re unveiling the 300 pieces of music the nation has chosen as its favourites, with that all-important number one revealed just before 9pm tomorrow. 9am to 12pm: BILL TURNBULL 12pm to 3pm: ANNE-MARIE MINHALL 3pm to 6pm: JOHN BRUNNING 6pm to 9pm: ROB COWAN 9pm to 10pm: BLOWERS AROUND BRITAIN with HENRY BLOFELD Tonight, Blowers Around Britain stops in the South of England. The programme starts with a piece written by a composer born in Bournemouth, and sung before the start of every England international Test Match: Hubert Parry s Jerusalem. There s more music with a nod to Henry s cricketing heritage, as we hear Peter Warlock and Bruce Blunt s The Cricketers of Hambledon: both a protest song, and a celebration of one of the game s nursery slopes, found in Hampshire. Also tonight, a famous Holst melody from The Planets, written while the composer lived in London; Eric Coates s Knightsbridge March; and part of the opera Peter Grimes, by the East Anglian musical luminary Benjamin Britten. 3

4 MONDAY 2 APRIL 9am to 9pm: THE CLASSIC FM HALL OF FAME We enter the home straight of the world s biggest annual survey of classical music tastes: The Classic FM Hall of Fame. From 9am to 9pm, across all four days of the Easter weekend, we ve been unveiling the 300 pieces of music the nation has chosen as its favourites. The all-important number one will be revealed just before 9pm today. 9am to 12pm: TIM LIHOREAU 12pm to 3pm: ANNE-MARIE MINHALL 3pm to 6pm: CATHERINE BOTT 6pm to 9pm: JOHN BRUNNING 9pm to 10pm: BLOWERS AROUND BRITAIN with HENRY BLOFELD For the final instalment of Henry Blofeld s musical celebration of the British Isles, he takes in the North East of England and Scotland. Henry begins with Summer Evening, a warm and sunny piece inspired by Delius s holidays in Filey overlooking the North Sea, before stopping in Durham for Jon Lord s concerto written to commemorate the city s university. Henry will also shine the spotlight on the great British brass band tradition; feature the output of Hamish MacCunn and Peter Maxwell Davies; and champion a film score by the son of a Yorkshire cinema projectionist, who went on to become one of Hollywood s most famous names: John Barry. Legend has it that the Bond villain Blofeld s is named after Henry s father so it has to be You Only Live Twice tonight! 4

5 TUESDAY 3 APRIL 8pm to 10pm: THE FULL WORKS CONCERT: HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE CLASSIC FM HALL OF FAME Over the Easter weekend, the Classic FM Hall of Fame 2018 was counted down, with the number one revealed last night. Tonight, Jane Jones picks out a selection of new entries, movers and shakers, and Hall of Fame favourites, playing all these works in full. 5

6 WEDNESDAY 4 APRIL 8pm to 10pm: THE FULL WORKS CONCERT: CLASSIC FM LIVE FROM THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL Fireworks, drama, stunning soloists, and the world s greatest music played to a sold-out audience. It can only mean one thing: Classic FM Live. Jane Jones brings us all the action from last night s Best of British concert at the Royal Albert Hall, featuring Maxime Tortelier conducting the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and a host of star soloists. We ll hear some of the finest music composed on these shores, such as Elgar s Cello Concerto featuring soloist Leonard Elschenbroich, Jupiter from Holst s The Planets, and a brand new work by Classic FM s Composer in Residence, Debbie Wiseman, narrated by Classic FM presenter Alan Titchmarsh. Other performers from this star-studded night will include pianist and Britain s Got Talent winner Tokio Myers, Welsh tenor Trystan Griffiths and the amazing multiinstrumentalists The Ayoub Sisters. 8 THURSDAY 5 APRIL 8pm to 10pm: THE FULL WORKS CONCERT: A TRIBUTE TO HERBERT VON KARAJAN On what would have been his 110 th birthday, Catherine Bott celebrates the life and extensive recordings of the Austrian conductor, Herbert von Karajan. As Principal Conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra for a monumental 35 years, it is no surprise that Karajan is one of the top-selling classical musicians of all time, having sold an estimated 200 million records. Tonight, Catherine will play a selection of his greatest recordings with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, opening with the overture to Rossini s masterpiece, The Barber of Seville. Mendelssohn s Violin Concerto will feature, played by Anne-Sophie Mutter, who Karajan brought into the spotlight at the age of only 13. To round off the evening, we ll enjoy Haydn s final symphony in its entirety, with Karajan at the helm of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. 9 FRIDAY 6 APRIL 8pm to 10pm: THE FULL WORKS CONCERT: PATRICK DOYLE AT 65 Scottish film and television composer was born on this day in To celebrate his 65 th birthday, Catherine Bott is dedicating tonight s programme to him, featuring some of Doyle s best-loved works and the music that has inspired him. On offer tonight will be some of the composer s best-loved film scores, including the magical soundtrack for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the film-adaptation of Shakespeare s As You Like It, and Doyle s most recent soundtrack, Murder on the Orient Express. Catherine will also be playing some of the works which have inspired Patrick and his award-winning compositions over the years.
