2 2 The Arranger Deborah Baker Monday continues to teach in the aard inning Logan City orchestra program. She received her B.M.E. magna cum laude rom lorida State University ith an emphasis in string education. She as aarded an academic elloship to attend the University o Alabama here she received her M.M. in composition. She continued her studies at Louisiana State University here she received the Chancellor s Aard to participate ith the L.S.U. symphony orchestra under the direction o James Yestadt. She has studied theory and composition ith Harold Schiman John Boda rederic Goossen Paul Hedall and Dinos Constantinides. When she moved to Utah Ms. Monday continued to be an active bass perormer. Ater completing all o the course ork and passing the ritten and oral portions o the doctoral exams she as hired to teach in the Logan City School District as a lo string specialist. During her tenure ith Logan she has pursued her interest in composition and arranging or educational strings. This has been a rearding part o her career hile she and her husband Bill have raised our amazing children. She has received aards or outstanding elementary teaching and or Superior Accomplishment ith the UtahASTA and UtahMEA respectively. Ms. Monday has presented at numerous state music conerences throughout the U.S. as ell as several national ASTA conventions the Midest Clinic and the prestigious Ohio State String Teacher Workshop. She is very active as a guest conductor and adjudicator and has received aards and commissions or her ork. Her studies in composition and experience in string teaching have combined to make her one o the leading contributors to the repertoire or young string players. About the Music This delightul set o tunes adds variety to the seasonal repertoire. The open string accompaniment ill add lots o resonance to any size group. Individual parts keep players on to adjacent strings and use the irst inger pattern (violin 1 and bass also have C natural on the A string). Rhythm patterns are simple and repetitive. Note value relationships are reinorced a great deal as the steady pulsing o quarter notes continues throughout. The vocal part is completely optional but is simple enough to be sung by some o your string players a guest parent or an administrator; or add a group o students or a combined perormance ith your music specialist or choir teacher.
