3 Note rom Consortium Director The title A licker In Time is dran rom a quote in oseh ConradÊs novel Heart o Darkness. The original hrase reads:...like a lash o lightening in the clouds. We live in the licker. One o the main actors that had led to organizing this articular consortium as our celeration o the tenth ear anniversar o Willocreek Middle School. Our articular region in Utah eatures large valles eteen great mountains. There is a rich heritage o ioneers and exloration. It is also an area that continues to gro and develo. Dr. Talor and I elt strongl that the music should reresent these asects o exloration, ascension, develoment, and hoe. We anted to recognize the outhulness o our erormers, their resent moment in time, the lessons o the ast, and the endless hoe or the uture. We decided at the eginning o this roect that e ould involve the students o Willocreek Middle School in naming this ork. Uon comletion o the irst drat, the students ere ale to visit ith Dr. Talor via ske and hear his musical ideas, textures, and structure or this unnamed ork. While the music itsel as insired our original discussions, e anted the students to irst hear ithout initiall knoing our original thoughts and insirations. This exerience as an interesting rocess to sa the least. The maorit o the studentsê suggestions related to exloration, celerations, ascension, and eic adventures. In the end, a general stor o a ourne as adated. A licker In Time reresents the ath that e are on and our on moment in time. It is a oul acknoledgement o the ast, uture, and resent. Like the lives o these students, e stand on the shoulders o the ast, ith an anticiation o the adventures ahead. This is our time. Dr. Talor's rizes and honors include inner in the 2013 rank Ticheli Comosition Cometition, a BMI Student Comosers Aard, to Barlo Endoment Commissions, and an ASCA Young azz Comoser Aard.
