Results of Logo Consultation for Coleg y Cymoedd On August 1st 2013, Coleg Morgannwg and The College Ystrad Mynach will merge to form: Coleg y Cymoedd. Following a consultation period with local design companies, the two colleges released the final shortlist of designs for the Coleg y Cymoedd logo to staff, students and stakeholders. Of the two logos shortlisted 69% of respondents opted for Logo 1. The five spires of Logo 1 represent the five campuses working alongside each other and curve into a C shape, representing Coleg and Cymoedd. The logo embodies forward movement with positive and dynamic energy; a symbol of advancement and progression both personal and educational, as individuals and as a group. Of those who chose Logo 1 8% recommended a change to the colour, font and/or size of the Coleg y Cymoedd text. These changes have been implemented to make the text easier to read. Other suggestions prompted experimentation into a range of different colour schemes for the logo; however it was found that these changes reduced the overall impact of the logo. Based on these results the finalised logo has now been released and can be seen below. The College Ystrad Mynach and Coleg Morgannwg would like to thank everyone who took part in the consultation process.

Preferred Logo Font needs to be darker Comments Don't know if the green writing would be visible enough though. Option 1 I feel a little classier : ) Font needs to be darker Option 2 would be easier to fit onto documents. The Green lettering on 1 isn't I imagine good from an equality point of view and may not photocopy well Perhaps the font could be darker This represents the Valleys colours Nice but needs darker print words could be more prominent I find them both very drab The picture used in option 1 to me, symbolises "The Valleys" running parallel with each other and is therefore more appropriate.

Logo 1 has more life to it With the colours of option 2 The colours need to change, but I prefer the design More vibrant bringing togwether the Valleys as shown by the Vee formation. i like option 1 but i like the writing on option 2 I would have thought 4 arrow heads would represent each campus i.e. Aberdare, Nantgarw, Rhondda and Ystrad and maybe creating/using campus colours for each. Identity is different per campus this could push this across. Prefer the logo we originally have. I like the design of logo 1, but would prefer it with the colours of logo 2 I would like the words to be in colour so it stands out I think it would look better if it was the colour and writing of option 2 with the pattern on option 1 I like the logo, however I think it should represent the campus colours. Also is there a significance to the the 5 arrows? Will we have a vote on the choice of name too? I like the pattern of option 1 but prefer the font of option 2 I don't believe either is applicable - they do not have any significance with the 'College of the Valleys' - one looks like a multi coloured snow flake (option 2) and the other resembles an abstract banana leaf - something synonymous with the valleys would be preferable Perhaps the font a bit darker I think it's fine the way it is I don't see a need for a change, the one we've got already is well known and represents this college as well as Wales very well. I do prefer Logo 1 as to me it is grapically more pleasing rather than the "V" shaped logo which looks as it is added as an after thought. I prefer the colour range of Logo 1 too. Good looking logo but the text should stand out - make it bold or brighten the colour.

Prefer colours shown in option 2, but in style of option one. I like this because it is looks like a fountain of knowledge Prefer logo 1 but with the colours of logo 2. Prefer option 2 as it portrays a vibrant image. option 1 has more style and energy but Cymoedd needs to stand out more for visually impaired I prefer option 1 but with the colours from option 2. The first one is more sophisticated, the second - better colours... Artistically, Option 1 is preferred, but option 2 maybe more practical. A lot will depend on where the logo is going to placed on headed paper, etc, and it may be easier to colour coordinate with items of clothing, eg polo shirts. There's one colour too many, but each campus could be allocated one of the colours for easy identification when it comes to headed paper, administrative filing, etc. Option 1 looks more like it belongs to a spa. Option 2, on the other hand, displays diversification (the five different coloured Vs) a focal point to which all roads lead, and pathways out again into the world. Each 'V' represents a valley and five of them also (each) represent a campus both look nice I think that the logo should represent and depict that there's a number of colleges working together - as well as the location of the different campuses being situated in the Welsh Valleys in terms of say...'the Green, Grren Grass of Home' kind of idea!! A logo like that would market our college universally across the world. That's my thoughts anyway! V for valleys on two but I prefer the writing on 1.

Option 2 is better placed for use on paper, web sites and is more colorful than Option 1. Also, appears to be arrows pointing to a central point. I feel it is more identifiable logo that option 1. Option 1 - like the plant like nature of the curves, but would benefit from more color and the green lettering tends to fade into the white background. it is good :3 I like one too change logo 1 to match the colour scheme of logo 2 Option 2 is more colourful and looks a bit friendly. The first one looks a little bit serious and more formal. What are those symbols supposed to mean anyway? Try and represent a vally rather than using something random that doesn't mean anything to anyone Looks Far More Professional option 1 - do not understand the swirls. option 2 - too similar to a tv news statian format Can we have the option two colours for option one i think that they could be other better deisned's but option 1 is the best but the is still opertinty to make a better logo Typography is not quite right, is it readable at a distance. Could we see it in different colour schemes? What does it look like in momochrome? This logo looks more colourful

more exotic i think it should include the Welsh dragon that symbolises Wales. the dragons tale should wrap aroung coleg y cymoedd they are to boring is more profesionall I prefer the pattern of 1 as option 2 pattern is a bit misplaced, although the Y doesnt look right...can this be a small y? The name looks un-balanced, can we make the Y smaller. would look nice on our uniforms vans etc, Option 1 is a little bit insipid but is a more dynamic design than option 2. logo 1 is truly sensational I prefer the second mostly because I feel the green in the first one is too weak a colour. Would logo 2 have a white background or would there be an option to use a black background, for example, on corporate items like sweatshirts, bags (obviously with the name in white in that instance? Option 2 looks more modern I do not like the green text because it may not come out when you are printing in black and white. Looks more professional and fresh!

option 2 reminds me a bit of the LGBT flag! I prefer the first logo as it stands out alot more! Prefer the flow of option 1 and the colour Option 1 is flowing and creative whereas option 2 is childlike and belongs in a nursery. Logo 1 is too similar to Cardiff and Vale. Not particularly fussed on the 2nd logo but it is preferred out of the two Logo 2 is more professional but is too similar to Cardiff and Vale College logo. The logo on option 2 BUT the text on option 1 is better. I like the logo part of option 1 but the font/lettering of option 2. Chose option 2 though as overall it's clearer and easier on the eye. I prefer Option 1 at a glance but choose Option 2 because of the simplicity and ease of use. It looks more sophisticated. Logo 1 is far too similar to Cardiff and the Vale College, especially the colours - too much room for comparison and confusion. Logo 2 does not represent a college as a centre of learning. However, if we have to go for an option, option 2. I think the logo would benefit from inclusion of a strapline/slogan... I prefer Logo Option 1, but think there's too much green! I love becuase it is more sophisticated, it catches the eye, its attractive and inspiring, it flows and looks like a professional company logo. The Logo Option 2 is boring, though it has pretty colours it s just not attractive or professional looking in my opinion. The style of Logo 1 is more stylish. However logo 2 incorporates the V's and repsesents the Valleys and is more colourful.

I don't think either of the logos truly represents a valley (if that is what the intention is). If I had to choose one it would be Option 1 but perhaps amended to include more of the colours in Option 2. I've chosen option 2 because it'll be easier to use on letterheads/websites etc due to it's shape and orientation. However, I prefer the font used and distinction between colourings on "Coleg Y" and "Cymoedd" on the first logo. Ideally, option 2 with option 1 font and a little colouring. :) not eye catching, quite plain - maybe more invigorating colours? Use some brighter colours. The colours and design of Option 1 visually relate to the colours and flow of the valleys. Was expecting more use of the "CYC" in the logo. Also is there a need for bilingual text (i.e. english and welsh) in the logo as well as generally throughout all campus sites? Would be improved with brighter colours as in option 2 Cymoedd means Valleys, this should have been included in the logo Cymoedd means Valleys, this should have been included in the logo Option 1 with Option 2 colours would be more eye catching. Option 1 looks energetic, option 2 looks rather flat. Option 1 with option 2 colours would be an eyecatching logo. I personally believe that both logos have no significance to the Name. I believe it would be better to have CYC as a logo maybe with a fancy design so that companys could identify the college from the logo alone Logo 2 is very basic and not very inspiring. Logo 1 is the better option but the colours used are a little bland, the colours used in logo 2 are much more eye catching. Maybe incorporate the two. I liked the colours used in the logo of option 2, but preferred the design of option 1 I consider that the Welsh dragon is symbolic of our location and as such the importance of the college's standing should reflect annational identifier. Possibly option 1 with the dragon as a watermark. Thanks for the consideration

I don't think either are as good as what we have, they are not typically Welsh Can the colour [light green] be changed? The valleys is called the valleys because there are valleys! The geography forged a hard way of life and industry and achievement from coal, iron-stone and limestone. Some pictoral representation of the hills and comunities in between the hills would it seems to be be iconic and 'paint' an instant 'picture' that shouts out where and who we are! I like the dynamic shape of option 1 very much and I also like the colour scheme. However, I would prefer the word 'Cymoedd' to be in a rather stronger lime green so that it would show up better. I would also prefer word 'y' to be shown in lower case I don't understand how the logos shown reflect the culture of the South Wales Valleys or Wales in general. Option 1 very symbolic of the valleys in its lines and colours. I believe it also represents a flare which when interpretted differently represents the type of learners we want to develop in our care, that is, learners with talent, aptitude, skils for life, confidence, propriety and flair. Please make the green a darker colour to stand out more (including the word 'Cymoedd') - emphasising the Valley component, the Valley should be bigger than the River (because the River runs through the Valley) Thank You Like the design of Logo 1 but not the colours - a bit dull. Colours on logo 1 could be more bolder. Option 2 looks like a political party logo

The green needs to be much darker, as I feel the current shade would not stand out well on letter head etc. This could have been opened up to learners and staff who could have had an impact on the design process. designs stand out as a place of education. the english translation means"college of the vallys" this should reflect in the logo. Perhaps the text from no 1 and an image of a vally incoporated into it? Colours are too bland. Make each band a complimentary but different colour Logo 2 is brighter using a wider range of colours to choose from. Colour design could be bigger, lettering incorporated into it

we would like to propose combining both ie the desgin of the 1st logo with the colours from the 2nd logo. I don't think the first option would be suitable as when photocopied, the green writing will not show up very well ans it also can make it harder to read The writing looks very simple in the second logo Option one is a better colour scheme and softer, option two is too sharp and blunt Prefer option 1 because of the colour scheme and softer feel. Chose 2 because I don't think the green colour in the first one will photocopy very well on resources. The text colour on Option 1 may be difficult to read for Visually impaired learners, do not like option 2. Option 2 looks too much like a hospital trust logo. I really like the design of the first logo but prefer the colours of the second so, first design with second designs colours would be perfect! My eyes were drawn to the shape but the green of Cymoedd doesn't stand out. Possibly the printing of the writing may not show up on items other than white paper I don't like either of the logos as they don't really reflect what's is happening or either college. Option 1 is better than option 2, but both are too abstract and unoriginal. More formal and gives the college more of an corporate image. of these two designs reflect anything to do with colleges of the valleys Logo one looks far more professional. Would be far nicer to link pontypridd bridge with caerphilly castle I have chosen option 1 but neither of them are particularly inspiring, something more welsh? Looks like all the Valley areas merging into one. Has a more modern look to it (to my mind)

"Cymoedd" should be in a darker colour to be more easily visible They both look lie Vistaprint templates - not very original. I noticed there are five curves on option 1 and 5 arrow heads on option two. Do they represent the number of organisations coming together to create Coleg Y Cymoedd? Rainbooooooows = Equalityyyyyyy 8D put the Logo on the right behind the text and make it look like its colouring the text make it more colourful I looks really cool and atractive its got swag

I think that they are both not as good as they should be, I feel that the logo should have some sort of symbolism about the college which neither have. However I feel the first option is better than the second as why is there a circle of V's it makes no sense:s Looks better than logo 2 I prefer the option 1 logo, because it's more eye catching and drew me in straight away. The colour's are very calming, and the curves for me represents a blending together It is a logo. I think they are to plain and dont represent nothing about the colleges i prefer logo one, as the green colour stands out more.

I like the writing from logo 1 but the picture from logo 2 tidy In my opinion it seems to capture the idea of students aspiring It is colourful and demonstrates a unity of colour, which is symbolic of differentiation and diversity. The circle format of the logo, as a symbol demonstrates unity and togetherness. to boring the other one looks really boring this one is much more uplifting Logo Option 1 - This logo looks less harsh and looks more apealing at first glance.

Two is to bland. Don't like the colours on one. option 2 stands out better as it is colourful. option 1 also nice design but not very colourful maybe use the same colours as option 2? Represents the diverse roads/areas in the valleys now covered by the new college and the road to academic success, reprsented by the centre of the logo. th option 1 is a lvelylgo for th college i think this is a better ne than h ne we go now I like option 1 but it should have the same design as option 2 fo example the writing and the colors but just the disign opeion 1. Don't think a capital letter is needed for 'Y'. Would you give 'The' a capital letter in English? Shouldn't the design refelect the name? I.e Valleys. I prefer this one because the way it is layed out is more appealling.but i would reccomend you change the colour of Cymoedd as i think it blends in with the design, so the name doesnt stand out. i like the design of option 1 but like the colours in option 2. i reckon you should use the colours out of option two, and the colour and style of writing yet keep the design of logo one. this will benifit us loads. im an artist... i should know. The colours are boring in option 1 I like the design of logo 1 but the colours of logo 2. I really like the second option, it's colourful and cheerful. I also really like the font used to write 'Coleg Y Cymoedd'. The colours in my opinion reprasent the whole college. Logo one is the better design but the colours used in logo two should be used in logo one as it would make it more visually appealing. Encorporate the colours of option 2 in option 1 logo? Its modern and the arrows to me represent diversity and the different route into the college

is beautiful! Green for the valleys it is nicer than the other one No 1 is more eye catching and has a more contemporary feel to it. Option 2 seems to show the 5 campuses coming together, but option 1 is more eye catching. too boring! Omg, this is awesome. This college has swag. I think this logo would stand out more. i think a newer, more interesting logo should be created. Option 1 - Really like this one although the colours are a bit muted; would choose more dynamic colours to match the dynamic theme. Option 2 - Too plain it looks more professional option 2 looks plain.

Seens that the logo is in welsh.i think it should have a welsh symbol.( welsh dragon, daffodil, leek ) No comment. I feel logo 2 is the nicest out of the two options because it is colourful and I feel that is important. Both a bit boring, but 1 is the better of the 2. I think it would be better if you used the design template for Option 1 but use the colours in Option 2. It's cooooolourful! :3 I prefer logo 1 but the colours should be changed to those in logo 2. The light green should definately be changed to a bolder colour. it look better and nice Dont think it should be changed make it blue instead of green

The name especially cymoedd is not a good colour - not distinctive enough in the green or thicker font Even though I prefer option 2, I have selected option 1 because it looks more professional as the text and imagery work well. I prefer logo 1, however i think the colours should be changed it looks a bit manly. Are we sure that the font colour being used for the word Cymoedd is visual to those that have poor eye sight or learning difficulties? I find it to be very bland with no meaning to what the coloures and patterns stand for option two is boring and plain and looks like a company logo whereas option one looks more fun and artistic The word 'Cymoedd' needs to be bold or another colour in order to see it more clearly. 'Coleg Y' could be green and 'Cymoedd' could be black. I prefer option 1, but I think the writing should be all black and possibly using the font in the second option. Having pure black text will mean that the college name stands out especially when it it used on t shirts etc. Also if the logo is placed on a black background such as a tshirt the text could be inverted to white, rather than keeping it green and grey. The layout of the text and logo should remain though. i have chosen the second option because it is more colourful and more vibrant colours.

more colourful I'd prefer the pale green to be red so that it is more eye catching. Possibly Option A with bolder colours I'm not sure if the green colour is a bit too light in colour - could be darker. I'm not sure if the green colour is a bit too light in colour - could be darker. I'm not sure if the green colour is a bit too light in colour - could be darker. the concensus of opinion is that option 2 is preferred as it appears to represent a meeting of 5 valleys. However it is not as pretty as option 1 which seems to represent water and waves. i think the logo looks too much like an energy logo. i think it would be a good idea to hold a competition for students to design a logo and give a prize to the best. needs to be related to wales and the valleys more I prefer the design of option one but prefer the colours of option 2. I have selected option 2 but the font of option 1 Both look like a council logo, the first looks that little bit more professonal looks more profesional and fun. The bright colours are more hopeful positive and aspirational. The shape reminds me of a tree- symbol of growth and lifelong development. The other one reminds me too much of local authority corporate logos in South Wales. Will there be other color options? - I would like to understand the 'thinking' behind Option 1 as well.

I feel option one looks more impressive. I would however have liked a RED SWIRL somewhere in the design which I feel would raise the effect of the logo even more I like option 1 for the design but I'm not keen on the colours. I would like to see some warmth in the colours but still avoiding using just primary colours Design is ok but what about using welsh national colours? They are both clinical and boring, put a dragon on it, it will be more interesting for a college as it should be something vibrant and fun. :) Having a choice of only 2 is limited. My preference is option 1 which is innovative and to me represents a link from Ponypridd to the valleys. However, I'd like to see some more colour options on this logo Not many options to choose from! The Y shouldn't be a capital. grammatically the "Y" should be lower case.

The first logo shows simplicity and simple design where as the second logo looks like a 5 minute paint job. More eye catching needs more crayon needs more crayon needs more crayon needs more crayon needs more crayon needs more crayon I think the second option is better as all the arrows are facing in, and this would symble all the colleges joining as one. I like option 2 but the writing is boring so I would prefer option 1 writing It would be more effective if the writing in logo one was placed in logo two. is inspiring and there is no English language on these remembering that 95% of the people using the new college will NOT be welsh speaking 1. Are they just designs or do the shapes signify something. 2. Once either of these designs (especially design 2) is embroidered onto a garment, I think that a colour might be lost unless the design was on a white patch which probably wouldn't look very good. Different colours it looks interesting I find both logo's of a poor standard i feel both logos seem flat and does not make a statement when firt looked at

it looks better than the other one.
