Our Paws to Read program is an excellent way to motivate young readers to read. Trained therapy dogs are ready to listen and enjoy tail-wagging tales read by children who wish to improve their reading skills. with PlayStation VR and a selection of tabletop board games for good fun! What s in Our Water? 6PM Ages: 6-11 Have you ever wondered where the water we drink comes from? What if someone else drank the water we use before we did?! Learn about how we collect, clean and use our water. Crafts, Conversation and Coffee 1/14, 10:30AM Ages: 18+ Come join us for a fun morning of crafts (bring your own to work on or do a simple craft provided by the library), fun conversation and delicious coffee. The craft for January will be no-sew fleece scarfs. The craft for February will be a fancy card for a loved one. Stencil Line Art 6PM Ages: 9-14 Create fun stencil line art using homemade outline stencils, rulers, and markers. Paws To Read 3PM Ages: 5-14 This program for kids lets them read to a furry friend who is a great listener. Improved reading skills and confidence are the goals. All dogs are certified therapy dogs. STEAM Club: Physics Edition 6PM Ages: 6-11 Learn about magnets and light in the Physics Edition of STEAM club and create your own glow in the dark and magnetic slime to take home! TWEEN & TEENS Teen Drawing Workshop 6PM Ages: Love to draw? Want to learn how to break things down? Bring your sketchbook and ask questions. Get first hand experience with a drawing tablet. Teen Interest Group 1/22, 6PM Ages: The Teen Interest Group is a space for you and your friends to hang out. In January play Silent Library, a game in which we dare you not to laugh. In February we will build a Nerf obstacle course and compete for accuracy, endurance, and speed. In January we ll watch The Emperor s New Groove. In February we ll watch A Bug s Life. Project Cradle Care 9:30AM The Eta Omicron Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority will partner with CCPL to hold Project Cradle Care. The goal of the program is to provide a wealth of information, resources, and tools for women of childbearing age to help ensure a healthy baby. This community-based collaboration includes hospitals, managed care organizations, community-based prenatal care providers, and special guest speakers. This program is done in conjunction with our national partner, the March of Dimes. Charles County Improv Bee 10 AM Come watch the teens from local high schools compete for the BIG award: Best Improvisation Group! Teens will create hilarious skits on the spot based on suggestions in a familyfriendly, county-wide competition. Family Craft Night 1/15, 6PM Spend family time together creating simple craft projects. In January we will make paper food. In February we will make our own scratch art. My Fresh Start: Free Showers 1/18, 1/25, 2/15, 9:30AM The Charles County Public Library partnering with Lifestyles of Maryland Foundation, Inc. will make the library s public showers available to individuals who are homeless or need to use the showers. Individuals are welcome on the third Friday of the month from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. *Preregistration with Lifestyles is not a requirement. Writers of Color Book Club 1/22, 6:30PM Ages: 18+ This group is centered on books written by Pan-Asian, Latino, African, Afro-Carribean and African American authors. The group explores a variety of genres of contemporary and classic titles with candor and objectivity. In January, we will discuss Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan. In February, we will discuss A Place for Us by Fatima Mirza. WALDORF WEST Homeschool Book Club 10AM Ages: 9-11 This book club will feature a wellknown book and the movie adaptation participants are encouraged to discuss and compare. In February we will read Inkheart by Cornelia Funke and we will watch the movie with the same title.
