3 Performing Arts & Talks 2 3 New York Premiere Bernadette Lafont Letters from Truffaut Wednesday, April 18 at 7pm Bernadette Lafont, the iconic French actress considered to be a major face of New Wave cinema, will read a selection of letters in French written by the celebrated film director François Truffaut to actors, friends, and other collaborators. Truffaut s letters reveal unknown sides of his personality and offer an insider s look at cinema and French cultural life in the 60s. Lafont, who will also share unpublished letters sent to her by Truffaut, will take audiences beyond the great man s films. Concert Irène Jacob Monday, April 23 at 7:30pm Winner of the Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival in 1991, Irène Jacob has recently added singer to her extensive resume. Talk David Servan-Schreiber s Life & Legacy Thursday, April 26 at 7pm Franklin Servan-Schreiber will discuss his late brother s book, Not the Last Goodbye: On Life, Death, Healing, and Cancer, a number one bestseller in France. 6 Gallery 8 9 Françoise Pétrovitch Inklings Friday, April 27 Saturday, June 23 The FIAF Gallery is pleased to present the New York debut exhibition of Françoise Pétrovitch, a widely admired French artist. Her work is featured in the public collections of several French museums and has been exhibited internationally. Her recent, large-scale installation at the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature generated significant acclaim and interest in her work. In Inklings, Pétrovitch pairs her whimsical yet unsettling ink wash drawings with a video installation of over 200 designs. Ethereal and haunting, the raw animal drawings are simultaneously infused with a sense of intimacy and fragility. A sculptor with extensive experience, including at the historic Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres, Pétrovitch brings a powerful sense of substance and form to her two dimensional drawings. 9 Romy Schneider: Empress of the Screen CinémaTuesdays in May & June FIAF is pleased to present a tribute to Romy Schneider, the grand actress, icon, and lover of renowned French actor Alain Delon. Born in Austria, Romy Schneider nevertheless became the darling of French cinema, first with her career-making performances in the Sissi films and later through her work with directors like Claude Chabrol, Henri-Georges Clouzot, and Costa-Gavras. The two-month long series, Empress of the Screen, commemorates the 30th anniversary of this mesmerizing actress s tragic death.
