1 Grove City Community Library 125 W Main St Grove City, PA Phone January 2019 Newsletter January 2019 Volume 13, Issue 1 Library Hours Monday and Friday 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. What do you want to learn this year? There s a book for that. Books, partnered with adult and children programs offered by our library, allow you to learn and grow. Are you having trouble organizing? Need some advice in your finances? Want to learn to enhance your garden, decorate your home, or improve your health? There is virtually no subject that books cannot address. If we don t have the subject here on our shelves, you can get it through our inner-library loan department. Parents know that the love of reading comes only through exposure to books. That s why it s important to have books available at home, (and in the car), readily on-hand for long waits at the doctor s office as well as at night when kids are settling down before bedtime. Sharing your love for books by reading to your child is a gift that will last a lifetime. As adults, we are always trying to learn new things and books help us to expand our knowledge in the privacy of our homes. Let s not forget the value of reading fiction books that take us to another place, especially when the space we are in is a little bit hectic. Choose a place and go there; free of charge. If you re someone who would like to meet new people but have limited time available, our adult programs offer great solutions. In January, you can join us for a list of programs. We welcome you to try our Writers Group, Pub Trivia, Knitting and Crocheting Group or one of our five book clubs that meet monthly. If becoming more computer savvy is on your list, try our Drop-in Tech hour on Wednesdays from 1:00-2:00. Stop in and get your books or enjoy the company of others at one of our programs! Great things are happening at Grove City Community Library! Saturday Hours 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Closed Sunday CLOSED: January 1st (New Year s Day) CLOSED: January 21st (Martin Luther King Day) JANUARY ADULT PROGRAMS January 2nd January 7th January 9th January 10th January 14th January 16th January 16th January 23rd January 24th January 24th January 28thth January 28th January 30th Drop-In Tech Hour Writers Group Drop-In Tech Hour Knitting & Crochet Group Monday Night Book Club Mystery Lover s Book Club Drop-In Tech Hour Drop-In Tech Hour Pub Trivia Kindred Spirits Book Club Science Fiction Book Club Cooking the Books Drop-In Tech Hour Website: gccl@grovecitypalibrary.org
2 WHAT IS AN INTERLIBRARY LOAN? An Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service offered to our regular library patrons when an item we don t have is desired. Books, audio-books, DVDs and CDs all fall into this category. You may have up to five ILL items out at once and they do not count towards your 25 item limit on your library card. There is no fee for this service unless you don t pick-up your item after it has been ordered for you. If this happens, a one dollar processing fee is charged to your account. If you have an idea for our Adult Programing, we would love to hear it! Some of the best ideas come from you, our patrons and friends. So let us know what interests you in 2019 and maybe we can turn it into a fun class! Did You Know? Grove City Community Library is one of the eligible AmazonSmile charitable organizations that you can choose from when you are ordering items from Amazon. It s a simple way of donating money to our library with just a few clicks and it doesn t cost you anything once you choose us! Amazon donates 0.5% of the price of eligible AmazonSmile purchases every time you shop. Please choose us! :) Sci-Fi Book Club! Monday, January 28th from 5:30-6:30 p.m. We will be discussing Brave New World by Aldous Huxley Ages 18 & Up Stop in and pick up a copy at the front desk. Get ready to explore the many realms of the Science-Fiction genre, from Space and other universes. These explorations through one of the lesser known literary genres will take place right here at the Grove City Community Library.
3 Make a Difference Knitting and Crochet Group Thursday, January 1:30 p.m. Do you like crocheting, knitting, and other needlework? Do you want to make a difference in our community? Join the knitting and crochet group at the Grove City Community Library. This casual group is open to members of any age, gender or ability! Works created can go to women s shelters in Mercer County run by the Mercer Aware Program, or for your own favorite charity. Come and kick back with your needles, hooks and yarn and Make a Difference in our community! This month, interested participants are welcome to accompany library staff as we deliver the hand crocheted book marks to the library s homebound and nursing home patrons. GCCL Offers Disc Cleaning and Repair Don t throw out or buy new discs! Bring in those smudged, dirty, and even scratched discs to the library and we will clean and repair them for $1.00 per disc. (Additional cleaning cycles will be charged separately.) All proceeds collected through this service will directly benefit the Grove City Community Library! Do you have too many books? If you or someone you know needs to cut back on the amount of books they own, we are now accepting book donations. Books donated to the library are used for various purposes. If we don t have a particular title, we add it to our circulation. If the book donated is in better condition than the one we have, we replace it with the best copy. If you donate a hard cover and we only have a soft cover edition, we upgrade for the more durable cover. Remember that any book that we cannot use is added to either The Friends Bookstore or our Annual Book Sale. In that way, your donations help us as we offer those books at a greatly reduced price to patrons and the money earned helps us to buy more books! Everyone wins! Thank you in advance for your book donations. Friends of the Library are seeking a President. This is an UNPAID position. Candidates for this position should work well with ALL ages. Looking for a positive and enthusiastic person to work with a small passionate group of volunteers. This position includes being able to chair a meeting, organize various fundraisers including: the yearly book sale, Christmas basket raffle, Friends of the Library Book Shop and the fundraising letter. If you can also recruit for new members and coordinate events with library staff then WE WANT YOU! If you are interested in this position, please pick up an application at the circulation desk.
