There are many factors that affect the relationship between a reader and text, including content, age-appropriateness, reader interests, suitability of the text, and text difficulty. The Lexile measure of a book a measure of text difficulty is a good starting point in the book-selection process, with other factors then being considered. 2 Elementary & Middle School Assignments All students will read 6 books. Which books should my child read? Students entering First and Second Grades this fall should read 6 books which are on the Suggested Reading List or other books designated for Beginning Readers. Students entering Third Grade this fall should read books which fall within their Lexile range. The Lexile range is a score found on the Scholastic Reading Inventory report which was sent home with this year s second grade students. At least one book should be nonfiction. Students entering Fourth through Eighth Grades this fall should choose 6 books which fall within their Lexile Range as reported on this year s CRCT report which was sent home to parents. At least one book should be nonfiction. Just a Reminder!
