The roots of Bofferding date back to 1764 to the Brasserie Funck-Bricher. In 1975, the Bofferding Brasserie Nationale was formed by the fusion of Brasserie Funck-Bricher and the Brasserie Bofferding founded by Jean-Baptiste Bofferding in The Brasserie Nationale is currently selling beer under two brand names: Bofferding and Battin. Non- Members $55/person (Early Registration on or before July 15, 2015) or $65 (after July 15, 2015). Conference includes continental breakfast, lunch and refreshments throughout the day. CONFERENCE DESCRIPTION This year s Cultural Conference features a topic that is very important for every Luxembourg American: family history and genealogy. In many ways this is the tie that links every member of the LACS to this organization. Whether one is a beginner in studying family history or someone who has already written extensively on this topic, the conference will provide a thorough update on research both in the United States and Luxembourg dealing with Luxembourg history, Luxembourg immigration, and current resources. The world of genealogical research has fundamentally changed in the past decade. Developments such as storing records in electronic form, creating detailed and topic-specific databases, and initiating online queries, have revolutionized how we can access information. Presenters at the conference will explore these developments as they have impacted Luxembourg American genealogy research. The availability of new resources will be explored, not only in relationship to genealogical information but also to the broader topic of family history with its historical and sociological implications. Participations will receive a detailed list of relevant web sites and be introduced to the type of information available on different sites. There will be helpful demonstrations on how to use such sites effectively. Presenters at this year s conference have a wide-range of experience as well as interests and include some new speakers as well as some very familiar faces to cultural conference participants. They include: Lisa Oberg, started researching her family history at age 12, maintains a website on Luxembourg ancestry, FamiLux(familux.org), and is on the advisory board of the Genealogy and Family History Certificate program at the University of Washington, where she is a librarian; Bob Arens, volunteer genealogist with 35 years of experience specializing in Luxembourg genealogy (six of eight great-grandparents born in Luxembourg and still searching for the other two great-grandparents) and retired 3M inventor; Michele Weiland, volunteer researcher in the Dooley-Wagner Resource Center at LACS with 45 years of genealogy experience, retired middle school teacher, and new Luxembourg citizen; Georges Eicher, founding member of ALGH (Association Luxembourgeoise de Généalogie et d Héraldique), initiator of the luxroots.com project, and specialist in current trends in Luxembourg genealogical research; Fausto Gardini, author and translator, LACS Board member, creator of internet sites: Luxembourg On My Mind, and Luxembourgensia(Today in Luxembourg-US History), and frequent presenter at LACS cultural conferences; and Jean Ensch, founding member of ALGH, co-author of the re-edition of Nicholas Gonner s work The Luxembourgers in the New World, where his main contribution was the Index to the Luxemburger Gazette (Volume II), a board member of the LACS, and also a frequent presenter at LACS cultural conferences. In keeping with the theme of the conference, there will be several short family stories presented by participants at the conference. The conference will be hosted by Dr. John E. Magerus.

American civilians and military alike prepared to flee the country, and their Vietnamese allies readied themselves for the worst. But John Riordan, the young assistant manager of Citibank s Saigon branch, did not want to leave the friends and colleagues he had made behind. The young Riordan engineered the escape of 106 Vietnamese friends in the last days before the fall of the city in The tale of how he carried this out provides a thrilling and vivid narrative. Decades later, Riordan, now a farmer in Belgium, Wisconsin, was reunited with many of the Vietnamese people he guided to safety. His book They Are All My Family is a compelling piece of micro-history. Author John Riordan will be present to share his story and to sign books.
