I d love to see them all earn their living with their music. That s my dream. But my reality is that not every one of our members is there yet, and that s why our feedback is so valuable. We re used to getting some really ticked-off s and phone calls from members who disagree with our screeners. I knew that would be part and parcel when I started TAXI 18 years ago. But I ve also noticed something else something that s changing in a good way! We re getting more and more letters like the one below from TAXI member Chris Ball. When you read it you ll understand why he has such a good success rate through TAXI. ******************************* Craig, I wanted to write a quick note of thanks to you and the screeners concerning a couple of specific instrumental listings from the past 2 months. I was the member who requested a custom critique for a song not forwarded to one of the listings (while another of mine was forwarded) a week or two ago - you and I ended up in an conversation about it last week. I wanted to send a follow up note and again say thank you for taking the time to explain things to me and also to say thanks to the Screeners for sticking to their standards and being damn good at what they do. Michael's article about "Good vs. Great" in this month's newsletter opened my eyes even more. These particular opportunities mean a lot to me - probably more than any others I've submitted to or even the fantastic deals I've landed [through TAXI] so far. The rejections of certain songs I felt strongly about affected me more than I was prepared for. For the first time since I joined (December, 2004), I think I lost perspective (now regained thanks to you, Michael and the screeners). I needed those rejections. Some my stuff was just not up to par and I needed to know that. In my career, I don't want a hand out, I never have - I want to become so good that I can't be ignored. That's my goal. That is what I'm actively seeking. The screeners are helping me get there, pushing me to get better at this and for that I will be forever grateful. As painful as it was, it was what I needed. I thought that some of the songs I submitted were among my strongest, but they weren t forwarded. That was a hard lesson at a number of levels. But the screeners were right, I was wrong. To be "on the cusp" like that, with only 1/2 my stuff getting thru at first, that was a massive eye opener. But I really am grateful - thank you to all the screeners! They are making me get this 100% right. This is where I'm going, I'm not going to stop and I'm grateful for the help getting there. I hope you all don't get tired of hearing thank you! They are able to hear feedback as helpful suggestions and not take it as criticism of them or their work. Even if they get steamed when reading one of our critiques, they know to put it away for a few days and go back to it when they can read it with a clear head and an open mind. They also use the feedback they get from our most helpful (and successful) members on our Peer-to-Peer Forum. It seems to be one of the best kept secrets in the industry. I encourage each of you to take advantage of that incredible free resource. Our most successful members will tell you that there s a formula to finding success through TAXI. They write and record frequently. They use the feedback they get from our A&R team and their fellow members on the Forum. They pitch their music and go right back to writing and submitting their music. They are patient because they know that it frequently takes weeks, months and even a year or two to get deals offered from the companies we connect them with. And they don t give up and throw in the towel in their first year. Notice that Chris Ball has been a member since The majority of our members who get deals and placements for their music get those deals in years two, three and beyond. They don t quit and they are rewarded for sticking with the program. 1

2 Sure, you could see this as a pitch to encourage members to renew. But those of you who know me well know that I believe this with every fiber of my being. Our most successful TAXI members know it from first-hand experience. Why are some TAXI members successful and others are not? I ve just given you the tried and true formula.
