Dear Passengers, Hopefully I ve got your attention, because we are making a major change to the formatting of the Industry Listings, and you need to know about it. Starting with this update (July 1 st, 2012), we re going back to all listings for each genre being grouped together. We will no longer be breaking the listings out into Film/TV and Label Publisher. Why? A couple of reasons: 1) The lines have become so blurred between what a label, publisher, and film/tv publisher are in the last year, that they are often the same thing. or they at least have cross purposes. 2) Even more importantly, we were seeing that our members and readers were missing some phenomenal opportunities in the label/publisher listings because they appeared after the film/tv listings. We just ran a KILLER listing from a Major Record Label that ANYBODY would want to be signed with, yet very few people submitted to it. Why? They didn t see it!!!!!! Yeah, I know that people love to slam the majors, but I don t see too many Indie artists making Adele, Lady Gaga, or Maroon 5 money marketing their music on the Internet. Do you? Don t get me wrong! I m the guy who coined the phrase, Musician Middle Class, and I believe it would be wonderful if tens of thousands of artists made a nice, middle class income from their music instead of just a few stars earning millions. But we ve had nearly 15 years of independent artists music online, and I personally can t think of any Internet only, Indie artists (who never signed with a major, or large Indie label) break out and make multiple millions of dollars, can you? When I see that only 75 artists submitted to an amazing listing from a Major Label it breaks my heart. One of the few good labels left, and nobody saw that listing because it was buried three feet past the film/tv category. So from now on, you only need to look at your favorite genre(s), and you ll know that you re seeing ALL the possibilities for your music.
