Parkway Calabasas, Suite 200, Calabasas, CA Please call if you have problems or questions Dear Passengers, With the economy in the dumper, bailout money being distributed willy-nilly, and the needle on the fun meter pinned at zero, I decided to do something to lift my soggy spirits spend an entire day scouring the threads and posts on our Forum at TAXI.com. Surprisingly, I saw far less about the economy on the forum than expected. What I saw instead was a decent size percentage of our members who didn t know a lot about the company they ve entrusted to help them accomplish their goals TAXI. Maybe some of the stink has rubbed off from mega-corporations like AIG and a percentage of consumers automatically assume that all companies must have something to hide. Are our members too shy to call the toll-free number and ask us the tough questions and that s why they post them online and leave them open to speculation? Whatever the case, I m on a mission to change it. I m on the hunt for TAXI s first ever, Chief Transparency Officer! I want every TAXI member to know that they ve put their music in the hands of a company that s ready, willing and able to answer any question they ve got about anything that has to do with how this company operates. Transparency baby! We need more of it in government (not just the U.S., I m sure), and you deserve more of it from the companies you choose to do business with. I think it might be cool to elect a TAXI member who lives in L.A. and could come to the office once a week/month and ask me anything they want in a video interview. I think we should open an account to which members could send their questions to their representative (once elected). The Chief Transparency Officer will need to come to the TAXI office with video camera in hand, and have the technical capability to upload the video to the Internet. They will be able to ask any question regarding procedure, policy and practices. No question they ask will go unanswered. The only restriction I ask for is that there is no editing of my answers. Each question answered must be left in its original form and length. I reserve the right to reshoot if I don t like my hair or make up ;-) We re still kicking this idea around the office a bit, but we d like to hear from you as to how we should choose the person who does the job. I think the Chief Transparency Officer should be paid, but I don t want anybody to ever feel that they re in the tank for us because they ve been compensated. We d like your ideas on how to solve this issue as well. I m pretty sure the interviewer might be given food if we shoot after working hours. We need Los Angeles-based volunteers and we need election and compensation ideas for now, and that s all folks! PLEASE DO NOT send us more than a couple of paragraphs with your suggestions. Lyrics need to sound authentic to the language and tone of the tween market. Mid to uptempo songs will get the most attention, as will songs with high quality recording. She is an Austin, TX based singer who will record your songs in Los Angeles. She is looking for accessible but original songs and asks that you avoid the tried and true lyrics. Country/Folk Listings (continued): ROOTS LEANING INDIE ROCK SONGS are sought by a Los Angeles-based music publisher who has signed dozens of TAXI songs/writers and has been successful in securing film and television placements. He is looking specifically for Indie Rock songs that can fit into the Alt Country and Americana format. Examples they give range from College radio acts such as Fleet Foxes, Ben Iver, Okkerville River and Blitzen Trapper to acts with proven track records like The Old 97 s, Butch Walker, The Shins, Ryan Adams, The Jayhawks and Uncle Tupelo to Classic acts such as Gram Parsons, The Byrds and Buffalo Springfield. Performances must be excellent and recordings need to be Broadcast Quality - great home recordings should be just fine. Huge hooks are necessary for this listing. They definitely want an artist who has at least a few of their own songs, can play an instrument and has undeniable charisma. On top of that, they are asking for us to only send them artists whose careers are already in motion and just need a little extra push to take them to the top. That means you must have a strong history of DIY marketing, touring experience, and a growing fan base in order to be forwarded for this listing. Your bio must include references to stage/touring/sales history as well as links to performances or an active website. Additionally, the better quality of your demo, the better chance you have for being chosen for further consideration by this very picky label. Their commission is 15% of wholesale on any distribution deal the company gets signed.
