Dear Passengers, TAXI Dispatch, our quick turnaround Film/TV music service that we started nearly ten years ago is about to undergo a pretty radical change. We first started Dispatch to satisfy the industry people who needed music in a huge hurry. They didn t have time to run a listing for 30, 60, or 90 days. They often needed it in a just a few days, sometimes in just 24 hours! Most of the requests we got were from Music Libraries who couldn t fill the requests they got from Music Supervisors because they didn t have the right tracks or songs in their catalogs. TAXI was often the only place they could find something quickly enough to fill those needs and make those pitches. Dispatch was a win, win, win for the Music Supervisors, the Libraries, and especially our members who upgraded. The small percentage of members who took advantage of Dispatch enjoyed a MUCH higher percentage of deals and Film/TV placements for two reasons: 1) the companies who ran the listings were more desperate, and 2) far fewer members submitted to those listings. But the market has changed for quick turnaround listings. We ve seen a shift from primarily Instrumental requests to more and more situations where songs with lyrics are needed. We re starting to get several requests a week for music needed in just HOURS! So, to take advantage of those industry needs on our members behalf, we re going to start running those listings with EXTREMELY short turnaround times through Dispatch rather than not running them at all. Dealing with those listings on our end is similar to triage in a hospital emergency room. We have to put extra screeners on them, and more general staff members to handle the listing intake, researching and writing of those listings, plus extra staff on the forwards to get them ready in time to meet the super short deadlines. It s very much like a racing pit crew compared to Jiffy Lube ; ) They both get the job done quickly, but the pit crew gets it done FAR faster. That s Dispatch! The bottom line is that we had to make a choice between NOT running those pit crew listings at all, or running them through Dispatch. Until now, we ve been waving off those opportunities and it s been heartbreaking to pass on them! The aggregate cost for all those extra man/woman hours is an additional six figure expense for TAXI every year. That s why Dispatch has always been an upgrade. The reason we didn t just raise the price of TAXI across the board for all members is that we know that not all of our members have the wherewithal and the catalog to pitch to those listings. So, to summarize: The quick turnaround, Special listings you ve been getting will continue to come to ALL members. Those typically have 24 hour to one week turnaround times. Dispatch members will now start to see more song listings (and of course, the Instrumental listings as well), and those opportunities will typically have deadlines that will be UNDER 24 hours oftentimes, those deadlines could be as little as just a few hours from when we them to you. We re very excited to have made the commitment to bring you these new opportunities. We re all geared up and have our pit crew ready to go! Songs should be CONTEMPORARY, UPBEAT, and DRIVING a la THE HOLD STEADY, OKAY GO!, THE ANTLERS, THE NATIONAL (their happier, more upbeat stuff), etc. Quoting the music supervisor "I'm looking for MID to UPTEMPO SONGS that capture the contemporary Indie Rock sound. I'm NOT looking for anything that sounds too retro or like it's from the '80s. Also, anything that is too electronic or synth based will not work. I want music that sounds like it's a real band with real instruments." These Songs will be used to help set the overall tone and energy level for different scenes in this great show. Your Song must have an IMMEDIATE Indie Rock VIBE and solid indie sounding HOOKS. They're NOT looking for vocals that are too soaring, out of the pocket, or over the top, because there will most likely be dialogue in the scene. (For example, Arcade Fire type Songs won't work because the extremely strong vocal would overpower the dialog scene.) Your vocal and instrumental performances cannot be too distracting or interfere with dialog. Your Song must set a specific mood. Songs should sound BRIGHT and OPTIMISTIC rather than dark, maudlin or introspective. MALE vocals ONLY please. Full songs (at least 2 minutes) are needed. Instrumentals are not needed at this time.
