2 Who Are WU? The College of Arts ad Scieces part 2 of 2 The College of Arts ad Scieces is home to 14 departmets ad is the largest academic college o campus. Get to kow some of the staff members who keep it ruig smoothly below. Jayme Keefer is the admiistrative specialist for the Departmet of World Laguages ad Cultures. She joied Withrop i August of this year shortly after graduatig from Quees Uiversity of Charlotte i May. She received her B.A. i commuicatios ad has retured to work o her M.A. From Blythewood, South Carolia, Jayme recetly moved to Rock Hill with her fiacé, Daiel, who is a Withrop alum ad curret graduate assistat i the Departmet of Physical Educatio, Sport ad Huma Performace. Before comig to Withrop, Jayme worked at a public relatios ad bradig firm i Charlotte, ad served as the assistat studet director of the Kight Scholars Program at Quees. Whe she s ot workig or doig schoolwork, Jayme likes to read, root for the Pittsburgh Steelers, ad scour Piterest for more ideas for her weddig i October degree with a cocetratio i political ad civic egagemet. Summersby worked for two years as the program assistat for the Departmets of Philosophy ad Religious Studies, ad Sociology ad Athropology at Withrop Uiversity, before trasitioig to her ew role as the operatios maager of the Social ad Behavioral Research Lab. Summersby also teaches HMXP The Huma Experiece: Who Am I? ad provides admiistrative support to the Joh C. West Forum o Politics ad Policy, the ew Ceter for Civic Learig, ad Model Uited Natios. Summersby serves o the board of a local homeless shelter, Family Promise of York Couty, ad is also a member of the City of Rock Hill Commuity Relatios Coucil. She lives i Rock Hill with her husbad, Jorda Hamrick, their dog, two cats, ad four chickes. Lida Maso is the admiistrative specialist i the Departmet of Psychology. She has bee at Withrop for 17 years, workig i several differet departmets. She will retire i Jue 2018, ad looks forward to spedig more time with her three gradchildre ad pursuig voluteer opportuities. Alexis Roy is from Greeville, South Carolia ad came to Rock Hill i 2001to atted Withrop. She graduated with a B.A. i 2005, the day after she got married. She previously worked i maagemet for 10 years, ad has come to Withrop as the admiistrative assistat for the Departmet of Sociology, Crimiology, ad Athropology, ad the Departmet of Philosophy ad Religious Studies. She ejoys spedig time with her husbad, Rob, ad her two daughters, Olivia ad Lillia. She also speds time actig i films, ad completig readig challeges of 35 books per year. Summersby Okey 13, 15, graduated from Withrop i 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts i political sciece ad philosophy ad religious studies. Durig her time at Withrop, she itered i the Office of the Seior Advisor at the Democratic Natioal Covetio Committee i Charlotte, North Carolia. After fiishig her B.A., Summersby oce agai atteded Withrop ad graduated i May 2015 with a Master of Liberal Arts Kat Wilso has bee the admiistrative coordiator for the College of Arts ad Scieces sice July She has a bachelor s degree i jouralism ad Spaish from Wester Ketucky Uiversity, ad a master s degree i liguistics from the Uiversity of South Carolia. 3 SPOTLIGHT o Staff Assembly This moth s spotlight is o Jessica Cassel, procuremet maager, Procuremet ad Risk Maagemet Jessica (Peppel) Cassel was bor i Columbiaa, Ohio ad moved with her mother ad sister several times, icludig to Florida ad Georgia, before ladig i the place where she was raised: Cetral, South Carolia. Jessica started workig for Iformatio Techology Services at Withrop i 2000 while workig towards her B.A. i art ad mior i Eglish, which she received i I 2006, Jessica was hired as the assistat to the associate vice presidet of iformatio techology, the, i 2014, as the assistat director of facilities desig. I 2016, she was hired as a procuremet maager for Procuremet ad Risk Maagemet. Jessica is a certified procuremet officer ad project maager. Jessica married Adrew Cassel i 2016 ad has two childre, Grace, 9, ad Maso, 1. She is a die-hard Clemso fa, ad loves to garde ad sped time with her childre ad family. How may years have you bee at Withrop? Three ad a half years. What makes Withrop special to you? I geuiely love all of the Residece Life people I work with, from the mai office staff, residece learig coordiators, residet assistats, ad desk assistats, all the way to the studets that I work with. What drives you every day to make such a differece? I like workig for equality i housig - that is what drives me. Ad the Tetris-like puzzle that goes alog with makig room assigmets. Toys for Happiess is a Uited Way program that distributes toys to approximately 1,800 childre i Rock Hill who would ot have Christmas otherwise. They eed voluteers throughout the moth of December to assist with sortig ad packig bags, distributig toys, ad assistig parets with gettig items to their cars. What is your favorite part of Withrop? It is a smaller istitutio with a hometow feel, but located close to Charlotte, with all that a city has to offer. What do you do i your spare time? Hobbies? 4 SPOTLIGHT o Service Whe Susa Sauvige, admiistrative specialist, College of Visual ad Performig Arts, leared that Luis Garcia, techology services techicia, Computig ad Iformatio Techology, had family i Puerto Rico who were without power ad had very limited access to food ad water followig Hurricae Maria, she kew she had to do somethig to help. Without sayig aythig to Luis, Susa reached out to Rachel Glover, admiistrative coordiator, Computig ad Iformatio Techology, ad together they cotacted others i the IT Departmet to collect doatios for Luis family. Withi a few days, they had raised over $550. They used this moey towards the supplies that the family eeded the most: food that did t require a stove or microwave to eat, toiletries, household supplies, a had-crak/solar radio, ad eve a few toys for a youg cousi ad treats for the family dog. I the ed, four boxes were set to help out this family i eed. Luis was moved to lear of his coworkers thoughtfuless ad geerosity.
