1 Winter is on my head, but eternal Spring is in my heart. Victor Hugo Monday Thursday 11 AM 9 PM Friday 12 PM 5 PM Saturday 10 AM 3 PM The Library is Closed on Sundays ~ Circulation Desk ext. 210 or 211 Reference Desk ext. 206 Children's Desk ext. 204 Teen and Youth Services ext. 208 Administration ext. 203 March 20th is the first day of Spring! At long last, award season seems to be winding down. For book lovers, we had our Caldecott, Newbery, and Prinz awards. The Grammy s are done and the Oscar s just finished. Of course there are a bunch of other award shows coming later on, like American County Music (April), the Tony s (June) and ESPY (July). All spaced out to keep the entertainment industry going without much thought to the written word that spurs a world of glamorous people, action and million dollar sets. And at the end of the year without much fanfare on December 10, the Nobel Prize for Literature is given. There is no painted set, no surround sound, or million dollar actors, just your imagination. For you, there is only the cost of a book or the use of your library card; in that case, it s free. It was while reading one of these awarded works, when I was much younger, that I read a line I sat alone, but not alone, watching a dusting of stars on a cold night. Since then, I ve watched many movies and seen many Broadway plays. And coming up this year are many more book-tomovies coming out, like Anarchy based upon Shakespeare s Cymbaline or Steinbeck s East of Eden, now in production. Will I ever find another literary line, with such imagery and emotion? Can an actor express that single thought where we hit the pause button within us, without a voice over and cut away to the next scene? Moreover, I have yet to hear someone say the movie was better than the book. How disappointing. So I was watching the Oscars and thinking about the movies I had seen this year when the camera panned the audience. And there I saw them, a dusting of stars on a cold night. Hmmm I thought, My bag of popcorn is empty. Here are some more books-to movies coming out in 2015, but read the book first. Cinderella The Gunman (The Prone Gunman) Insurgent (second of the Divergent series) Serena Home (True Meaning of Smekday) The Longest Ride (Nicholas Sparks) Child 44 True Story (Memoir) The Moon and the Sun ZOO (James Patterson) Five Flights Up (Heroic Measures) Far From the Madding Crowd Hunger Games( Mockingjay Pt 2)

The Bookmarks Triangle: The Fire That Changed America By David von Diehle Tuesday, March 31st, 7:00PM Called "a riveting history written with flair and precision"" by Bob Woodward, Triangle is the dramatic story of the fire that broke out in the Triangle Shirtwaist factory in New York City in Within minutes the flames spread to consume the building's upper three stories. People on the street watched in horror as desperate workers jumped to their deaths. The final toll was 146 people-123 of them women. It chronicles in harrowing detail the fire and gives an insightful look at how this tragedy transformed politics and gave rise to urban liberalism. Plant of the Month-March Ficus benjamina Ficus benjamina is a small tree from Southeast Asia that has been hybridized for indoor homes. pictured is Ficus benjamina. The Ficus has been developed to include varigated foliage, for smaller types household. Usually all Ficus species have similar culture. They enjoy bright indirect light and watering is critical(2 to 7days). Do not allow the plant to sit in water as this will cause root rot. Keep your Ficus pot bound and only repot when necessary. If you do repot expect leaf drop to occur but the Ficus will rebound with proper care. Ficus should be watched for spidermites, mealy bugs, or scale insects. ref. photo: Myra Gross
