10 . GENERA DESCRPTON MESECA f ' GENERA DESCRPTON. This User's Manual desribes the speifiations, handling andtransmission ontrol protools of the AJ7C24S8 omputer link module. The AJ7C2458 has one RS232C port and one RS422 port. t is the interfae between a PC CPU and an external devie (suh as a omputer or printer) or to thecpu of another PC station. Dediated transmission protools to 4 are used as transmission ontrol proedures on the AJ7C24S8 and a noprotool mode anda bidiretional mode are also available. The user an selet and set these independently for the RS232C and RS422 ports. When using a dediated transmission protool or the noprotool mode/bidiretional mode, data is transmitted using the odes as shown below. ~ PC CPU. 11 . GENERA DESCRPTON MESECA Compared with the AJ7 C24S3 and AJ7 C24S6 omputer link modules, the AJ7C24S8 supports the following six additional funtions: [(l) to (6) are the additional funtions when ompared with the AJ7 C24S3] () Commands dediated for use with the A2ACPU(Sl) and A3ACPU: All memory devies of the A2ACPU(S) and A3ACPU (the AnACPU in this manual) are aessible using these dediated ommands. (2) Data transmission in the bidiretional mode: This feature allows the AJ7 C24S8 to interfae :l data ommuniations using the ACK ode between a PC CPU and a omputer. When data is transmitted from the AJ7 C24S8 to a omputer, a ontrol ode ENQ, the data length ode, and a hek sum are added respetively to the beginning, the middle, and the end of the send message. (The hek sum is optional.) When the AJ7C24S8 reeives data from a omputer, it transmits a ontrol ode ACWNAK bak to the omputer. This indiates the result of the reeive (normal/abnormal). The AJ7 C24S8 thus adds the ENQ ode, data length, and hek sum and heks the reeption of the response message at the data transmission. t heks the reeived data and sends the response message after it reeived data. The length of a data ommuniations sequene program an be shortened by using the bidiretional mode. (3) The ommuniations mode using the RS232C interfae an be set to either fullduplex or halfduplex: The ommuniations mode using the RS232C interfae of the AJ7 C24S8 an be swithed either to fullduplex or halfduplex aording to the speifiations of the peripheral devie. (4) Multidrop link with more than one omputer is possible: More than one omputer an be put into a multidrop link with the AJ7 C24S8. The PC CPU modules in the multidrop link an be aessed from the omputers for read/write of devie data and sequene programs. 2

12 . GENERA DESCRPTON,., MESECA (5) and (6) are the additional funtions when ompared with the AJ7C24=S6] (5) Mode swithing funtion when the AJ7C2448 operates The AJ7 C24S8's RS232C/RS422 interfae an be swithed between the following modes after a startup: N+pratool mode.. Bidiretional mode (6) Transmission ontrol funtion using DCl/DC3 and DC2/DC4 Data ommuniations between the AJ7 C24 and an external devie an be ontrolled by using the DCl/DC3 and DC2/DC4 odes. 13 . GENERA DESCRPTON MESECA. Features The features of the AJ7C24S8 omputer link module (hereafter alled the AJ7C24 in this manual) are given below... Control operations n data ommuniations Data transmission operations between an AJ7 C24 and external devies (e, g., omputers) an be ontrolled using either the dediated protools (*) or in the noprotool/bidiretional mode. These ontrol operations an be seleted individually with the RS232C and RS422 ports of an AJ7C24. () Communiations using the dediated protools Communiations at the request of the omputer Data ommuniations is always initiated by the omputer. Designated data is transmitted aording to the request ommand transmitted from a omputer to an AJ7 C24. t is not neessary to reate and hange speial sequene programs in order to use an AJ7C24. Read and write possible to and from all PC CPU devies Data an be read from all PC CPU devies. This permits observation and monitoring of all operations, as well as the olletion and analysis of data. Data an be written to all PC CPU devies. This permits prodution ontrol and prodution diretives to be arried out. An AJ7 C24 an upload and download programs from a PC CPU. PC CPU programs (main sequene and subsequene ontrol programs and miroomputer programs), parameter data and omment data are read by the omputer and stored. When required they an be written to the PCCPU to hange the program. Remote RUN and STOP ontrol of the PC CPU The PCCPU an be remoteontrolled by means of RUN and STOP instrutions from the omputer. When multiple omputers and PC CPU modules are onneted to a link with an AJ7C24 module, the input (X) signals of the CPUs in the link an be turned ON/OFF using any omputer in the link. This funtion an immediately stop or simultaneously start all CPUs in the link. (This funtion is alled the global funtion of the AJ7 C24.) Communiations at the request of the PC CPU The PC CPU transmits the data send request. When the emergeny data needs to be transmitted from a PC CPU to a omputer, the PC CPU transmits a send request to the AJ7C24 to make the omputer exeute an interrupt proessing. : ' 4

14 F! i (This is theondemand funtion of the AJ7 C24. t is availabte only when one omputer is onneted to one PC CPU.) ' r * :The dediated protools onsist of four different protools. The term 'dediated protools' used in this manual is the olletive term for these protools. (2) Communiations in the noprotoovbidiretionamodes Either the noprotool mode or the bidiretional modean be set. (a) Communiations in the noprotool mode ) Data ommuniations an be initiated by a PC CPU Data ommuniations an be initiated by a omputer or any PC CPU. Data an be transmitted from a PCCPU to an external devie by using the TO instrution in the sequene program to write data tothe buffer memory. Data transmitted from an external devie an be read by a PC CPU using the FROM instrution in the sequene program. The following example shows a system with a printer, CRT and keyboard terminal onneted in a : ratio. Data an be output from the buffer memory to the printer or a CRT display using the TO instrution. Data input from thekeyboardtothe buffer instrution fromthe PC CPU. memory an be read using FROM a r PC CPU t TO instrution (write) (Send) Printer, CRT, omputer AJ7 C24 FROM imtrution (FQ Computer, keyboard 2) Reeiving data length an be set to variable or fixed:? P.. The ength of the data transmitted from an external devie and reeived by the PC CPU an be set to variable or fixed. i) Reeiving variablelength data: Data reeive stops when the reeive ompleted ode set by the user is reeived. ii) Reeiving fixedlength data: Data reeive stops when the fixed length of data set by the user is reeived. Both the reeive ompleted ode and the reeiveompletion data length an be freely set by the user. 3) Variable ommuniations memory area The user memory area an be alloated to suit the purpose and appliation of the data transmission.

15 , GENERA DESCRPTON MESECA (b) Bidiretional ommuniations ) Data ommuniations an be initiated by a PC CPU Data ommuniations an be initiated by a omputer or any PC CPU. Data an be transmitted from a PC CPU to an external devie by using the TO instrution in the sequene program to write data to the buffer memory. The data send operation is ompleted when the response message to the sent (reeived) data is reeived from the omputer. The result of the send (normal end/error) is stored in the buffer memory and an be read out. The data reeived from the omputer an be read with the FROM instrution of the sequene program.
