2 W HAT S NEW? ENHANCEMENTS AND BUG FIXES Cyclne 5.8 includes supprt fr the Leica ScanStatin 2 High Definitin Surveying laser scanner. Cyclne 5.8 als includes refinements t several imprtant features. IMPORT/EXPORT The SCAN license supprts imprt f ZFS, SCAN, and SC2 files in the Navigatr. ZFS files with embedded clr can be imprted. Exprt f PTZ files is significantly faster. NAVIGATOR The Imprt HDS4500/HDS6000 Scans cmmand in the Tls menu has been renamed Re-Imprt Scans t reflect the new supprt f ScanStatin 2 Scans. The Cnfigure Scanners dialg has a new scanner type: ScanStatin 2. MODELSPACE Texture Map Brwser: The new tlbar icn lets yu create Multi-Images frm the selected cube-maps. The Multi-Images can then be used as backgrund images when publishing TruView datasets. Unifying with an active limit bx unifies nly the pints in the limit bx. Pints utside the limit bx are remved. SCAN CONTROL (SCANSTATION 2) The Pinting panel has been added t the ScanStatin 2 Scan Cntrl t supprt aiming f the scanner s laser at a specific pint r directin. (See the Cmmands reference) The Lad Pints within Fence and Lad Pints within Fenced Selectin cmmands have been added t the ScanStatin 2 Scan Cntrl s Scanner Cntrl menu. (See the Cmmands reference) GETTING STARTED WITH THE SCANSTATION 2 1. In general, use the ScanStatin 2 as yu wuld a ScanStatin, taking advantage f the dramatically faster scanning rate f the ScanStatin 2 wherever pssible. The ScanStatin 2 s laser supprts finer pint spacing than the ScanStatin. The maximum dimensins (number f rws and clumns) in the scan have been crrespndingly increased. The ptimal pint spacing can depend n yur applicatin. 2. Add a ScanStatin 2 t Cyclne via the Cnfigure Scanners dialg. 3. Due t the ScanStatin 2 s fast scanning speed scans are partially imprted (if necessary) t minimize the time t prcess the scanned data in the field. The ScanStatin 2: Max # Pints Aut-Imprted preference ( Scan tab) determines the upper limit n the number f pints that are autmatically imprted while scanning. Scans with mre pints than this are autmatically sampled. After scanning, the rest f the pints can be imprted with the Tls Re-Imprt Scans cmmand in the Navigatr. This can be dne in the field r after returning frm the field. Target scans are always fully imprted. 4. Fenced prtins f partially-imprted scans can be imprted using the Scanner Cntrl Lad Pints within Fence and Scanner Cntrl Lad Pints within Fenced Selectin Scan Cntrl cmmands. 5. Cmpatibility A ScanStatin 2 Scan Cntrl viewer cannt be used t cnnect t an HDS3000 r ScanStatin. An HDS3000 r ScanStatin Scan Cntrl viewer cannt be used t cnnect t a ScanStatin The incming scan data are written t files with the SC2 extensin. The files are lcated under a subflder called ScanStatin 2 in the Scan Backup Directry ( Scan preference tab). The SC2 (and assciated) files are stred in a subflder beneath the ScanStatin 2 flder. The subflder s name is based n the database s name. Fr example, if the database being scanned int is named My Scans, the subflder is called My Scans. 1

3 Partially-imprted scans recrd the paths t the SC2 files t supprt future re-imprts. If yu change the lcatin f the ScanStatin 2 flder, be sure t update the Scan Backup Directry befre using the Re-Imprt Scans and Lad Pints within Fence cmmands s Cyclne can autmatically find the SC2 files. BUGFIXES/MODIFICATIONS INSTALLATION The latest TruView seed/versin files are included fr use in PUBLISHER. The ".\Tables" hierarchy is nw installed t ".\Lib\Tables". The existing ".\Tables" flder is nt mved, s any custm tables will need t be cpied manually. At the end f installatin, if the installer finds a "Tables" flder in the Cyclne installatin directry, it ntes that the existing Tables flder will n lnger be used, and that the user shuld migrate any custm tables t the new "Library" flder. CludWrx fr AutCAD can be ptinally updated t the latest versin. If there already is a "Cyclne\CludWrx" flder, the installer asks if yu want t skip prcessing the existing CludWrx fr AutCAD installatin. The installer des NOT ask if yu are installing r uninstalling CludWrx 3.1 Basic yu are switching frm Pr t Basic, r Basic t Pr If yu skip, 1. the installer des NOT ask yu which language t install 2. the installer des NOT verwrite existing Cyclne\CludWrx 3. the installer DOES ask if yu want t launch AutCAD If yu dn't skip, 1. the installer prceeds as befre USER PROFILE MANAGEMENT Prfile Manager n lnger hangs if the new "Library" directry is under the riginal directry. Cyclne lks fr bject parts tables under the crrect "Library" flder. User Cnfiguratin Manager n lnger autmatically mves the existing cntents f the previus Temp flder t the new Temp flder. The "Scan Backup Directry" preference's default is "Databases\Temp", as befre, instead f the "Temp" flder defined via the User Cnfiguratin Manager. User Cnfiguratin Manager n lnger cpies ImpDirectry550l.impdir and ImpStartup550l.impini frm the riginal installatin flder. Preferences, custmizatins, and sme settings will be reset. Databases and scanners will need t be re-added. Building a clud can take slightly less time, due t sme diagnstic cde being turned ff in this build. The final resulting clud shuld be the same, althugh the time t build may be slightly less. LICENSING Flating licenses are cnsistently acquired if they are available. Re-launching the Navigatr while CludWrx is running initializes the Cyclne licenses crrectly. Only the selected Enterprise Elite license is checked ut (and therefre lgged by the license server). The initial "Cyclne License Manager" dialg n lnger shws the "Available" and "Flating" clumns when using Enterprise Elite licenses. The "Checking Licenses" ntice n lnger appears nce the "Cyclne License Manager" r "Select Enterprise Elite License" dialg appears. When the "Cyclne License Manager" is frced t appear (e.g., when Cyclne starts), pushing the X buttn in the tp-right n lnger clses the dialg bx. IMPORT/EXPORT Exprt ASCII exprts statin ntatin and crdinates with the crrect unit f measure and number f digits, as cnfigured in the Exprt ASCII dialg. Imprt Custm ASCII applies the crrect unit t imprted target heights. 2

4 The user can n lnger imprt a frmat that is nt listed by the file dialg (e.g., selecting a "*.txt" file if yu nly have a SCAN license). The file extensin is first matched against the list f supprted extensins. If it's nt in the list, imprt f the file is skipped. MODELSPACE Snapsht, animatin, etc. have the crrect red and blue clr channels after drawing a texture-mapped mesh. ScanWrld Explrer ScanWrld Explrer can ptinally shw the scan file name f each Scan (if available, e.g., fr ZFS and SC2 files). Exprt Transfrmatin t ZFS first tries t autmatically find the ZFS file crrespnding t the Scan. The ZFS files have t be in the expected flder beneath the HDS4500/HDS6000 Scan Directry preference. Publish Site Map Publisher skips cluds that are nt really "in" the MdelSpace (e.g., "Shw Object's Clud") Publisher writes the crrect ScanWrld Default Crdinate System. REGISTRATION Undercnstrained registratins are detected prperly, instead f resulting in a successful (but bad) registratin. SCAN CONTROL () The last ScanWrld used will be autmatically selected when launching the Scan Cntrl. Field Setup Field Setup n lnger cmplains abut duplicate Target ID and Statin ID if bth are blank. Field Setup rechecks targets crrectly. Recheck Target Recheck Target displays a crrect reprt f the passed and failed rechecks. (nte that there is still a knwn bug where a target may appear t be acquired frm the clud even if there is n target in the scene) Recheck Target des a carse scan and fails if the target is nt first lcated in the carse scan. Scan Script The Scan Script autmatically creates r cnnects t the destinatin ScanWrld. The destinatin ScanWrld can be specified via the "ScanWrld" script cmmand, r it is the ScanWrld selected r named in the Scan Cntrl panel. The Scan Script n lnger gives a "shared resurces" dialg when rechecking targets. Acquire Target frm Fence in the Scan Script editr gets the angular extents frm the current target rectangle. Sphere targets The sphere target is created with the crrect diameter (as per the preference). The preference fr Sphere diameter is applied crrectly when acquiring, rechecking, and fitting sphere targets. SCAN CONTROL (SCANSTATION, SCANSTATION 2, HDS3000) The default camera expsure times have been adjusted. Initiating a cnnectin t a scanner that is still bting n lnger gives a spurius "scanner is nt respnding" message. The diagnstics are crrectly transferred. SCAN CONTROL (SCANSTATION 2, HDS4500, HDS6000) Lad Pints within Fence succeeds even if the scan prduced multiple ZFS r SC2 files. SCAN CONTROL (HDS6000) "Lad Pints within Fence" lads the crrect pints frm HDS6000 scans. K NOWN I SSUES We encurage users t prvide feedback and suggestins and t reprt defects s that they can be addressed. A number f issues and bugs are knwn but have nt been fixed in this release. These bugs may be fixed in future releases. 3

5 Truble pening viewers: There is a slight pssibility that Cyclne s tlbar cnfiguratin (including placement and custmizatin) may becme crrupted fr an unknwn reasn. The effects f this can include: nt being able t pen multiple viewers and running lw n GDI resurces when pening a viewer. Once this happens, delete yur ImpStartup550.impini and ImpStartup550l.impini files (lcated in yur Cyclne\Databases flder and als in yur user-specific cnfiguratin flder) t reset yur settings, then re-cnfigure and re-custmize thse settings. These settings include: the list f cnfigured databases, shrtcuts, and scanners; custmized htkeys and tlbars; and preferences. In this case, d nt imprt a saved custmizatin XML file, as the tlbar definitin in that XML file may have been crrupted already. Sme prgress dialgs may cver a secnd dialg that appears beneath it. If Cyclne appears t be making n prgress, mve the prgress dialg (if any) t expse any dialgs beneath that may require user attentin. SCAN CONTROL After cmpleting a scan and clsing the MdelSpace Viewer, wait fr the Viewer t clse cmpletely befre executing New Psitin. Open Viewer shuld nt be launched while a script is in prgress. The Viewer shuld be pened prir t running the script. Setting the HDS4500 Scan Directry preference t a flder with a - in it can place the ZFS file in an unexpected lcatin. MODELSPACE If yu have a large number f verlapping dense pint cluds, Cyclne may be unable t render all cluds at their full reslutin in sme areas, even with the limit bx active r with yur viewpint zmed int the scene. High visual detail can be achieved by viewing fewer scans, tggling OFF sme scans in the ScanWrld Explrer, r Unifying yur pint clud data. In the specific case where a MdelSpace is launched frm an existing MdelSpace (via File Launch Cpy Selectin t New MdelSpace) and a secnd MdelSpace is launched frm that new MdelSpace, when clsing the MdelSpace Viewers in sequence, wait fr the first viewer t clse cmpletely befre clsing the secnd ne. Rendering graphical text (e.g. measurements, anntatins, Virtual Surveyr) with very large fnts can slw dwn perfrmance. In sme cases, Regin Grw Cylinder results may nt be ptimal, particularly fr smaller cylinders. The Fit t Clud Cylinder and Fit Fenced Cylinder cmmands may be used in these cases. In sme cases, Regin Grw Cylinder and Fit Fenced Cylinder may result in a pr fit depending n the pick pint(s) used. Retry with different pick pint(s). In sme cases, Fit t Clud Steel Sectin and Fit Fenced Steel Sectin results may nt be ptimal. View the pint clud data t fit with Pint Nrmals tggled ON. Remve r delete pints with pr pint nrmals and fit the Steel Sectin again fr crrect results. REGISTRATION When using the Clud Cnstraint Wizard, the first time the Cnstrain buttn is pushed t add a valid clud cnstraint may result in an errneus message abut insufficient matches. Push the Cnstrain buttn a secnd time t add a valid clud cnstraint. If there really are nt enugh matches, the secnd push will still give the same errr message and yu will need t adjust the pick pints. C YCLONE DATABASE M ANAGEMENT R ECOMMENDATION T avid pssible database incnsistencies r crruptin, we recmmend the fllwing: Lcate each.imp file in its wn flder. 4

6 When cpying, mving r backing up databases, we recmmend backing up the cmplete database flder, including the eventlg and recvery flders and files. The eventlg recrds administrative events and critical errrs. The recvery file keeps databases cnsistent, aviding data crruptin that may happen in rare situatins. A warning dialg is displayed if a database s recvery flder cannt be fund when it is added t the server. Push the Mre Inf buttn fr mre infrmatin. A UTOCAD 2000 AND 2000I S UPPORT D ISCONTINUED CludWrx and COE Data Transfer fr AutCAD n lnger supprt the AutCAD r AutCAD 2000i-based family f prducts. Autdesk has discntinued services and supprt fr AutCAD 2000 and 2000i-based prducts as f January 15, If yu are currently using AutCAD 2000 r 2000i, cnsider upgrading t AutCAD versin 2004 r higher. A UTOCAD 2002 S UPPORT A LERT Future CludWrx and COE Data Transfer fr AutCAD will n lnger supprt the AutCAD 2002-based family f prducts. Autdesk has discntinued services and supprt fr AutCAD 2002-based prducts, effective January 15, If yu are currently using AutCAD 2002, cnsider upgrading t AutCAD versin 2004 r higher. I NSTALLING C YCLONE 5.8 UPGRADING TO CYCLONE 5.8 FROM CYCLONE 5.7 OR EARLIER Yu must have Administratr-level privileges n yur wrkstatin t crrectly install Cyclne sftware. Run the Cyclne 5.8 InstallShield and fllw the directins in the InstallShield Wizard t prceed with the installatin. Please heed warning message abut cmpatibility f earlier versins databases. NOTE: If yu are upgrading t Cyclne 5.8 frm Cyclne 5.6 r earlier, yur htkey and tlbar custmizatins will be reset during the upgrade. Befre upgrading t Cyclne 5.8, first exprt yur custmizatins. Then, after upgrading t Cyclne 5.8, imprt yur custmizatins. NOTE: If yu are upgrading t Cyclne 5.8 frm Cyclne 5.6 r earlier, yur cnfigured databases, scanners, shrtcuts, and preferences will be reset during the upgrade. Yu will need t manually re-cnfigure these items after upgrading t Cyclne 5.8. COMPATIBILITY WITH CYCLONE 5.5, 5.6 AND 5.7 Cyclne 5.8 databases are interchangeable with Cyclne 5.5, 5.6 and 5.7 databases. Updating and ptimizing Cyclne 5.5, 5.6 and 5.7 databases is nt required befre use in Cyclne 5.8. COMPATIBILITY WITH CYCLONE 5.4 AND EARLIER VERSIONS Cyclne 5.8 databases are NOT backwards cmpatible with Cyclne 5.4 r previus versins. Therefre, databases that are updated using Cyclne 5.8 cannt be used with earlier versins. If yu will need t wrk with yur data in lder versins f Cyclne, yu shuld make an archive cpy f yur database(s) prir t upgrading. 5

7 UPDATING AND OPTIMIZING CYCLONE 5.4 OR PREVIOUS DATABASES TO CYCLONE 5.8 Cyclne 5.4 and previus databases can be pened by Cyclne 5.8 nly after being updated and ptimized t be cmpatible with Cyclne 5.8. Since it can take sme time t update and ptimize Cyclne databases, we recmmend that yu ptimize yur databases vernight, particularly when multiple databases are invlved. 6
