YEAH! End of ***** ***** Reminder ****** James Dalton, Markets in Profile **** End 7:20 *** Hello Fluidity Team Traders Welcome! *** 7:20 *** DAILY TRADE TIP*** Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. ~ Winston Churchill 7:24 irishrover: morning all, NPR 7:24 irishrover: Does anyone have the symbol for the new contract? 7:25 NPR: Morning Irish...the symbol is esu3 7:25 irishrover: thanks NPR 7:28 irishrover: Is the correct 30 now? 7:39 NPR: sorry, just saw ur?..now its :39 irishrover: thx NPR, how goes it in Beantown today? 7:40 NPR: wet once again...looking forward to sunshine for the weekend. How about at your end? 7:41 irishrover: the rain is starting to clear out, cooler with a nice fresh breeze. 9:05 Al: New contract symbol is ESU3 9:07 Carol: GM traders 9:08 xroads: GM 9:11 forty1973: Good Morning Traders!! 9:11 Carol: all ok in your neck of the woods, xroads? 9:15 Carol: WOW Alice... what a day you had! 9:15 alice: It was 9:15 alice: Good Morning all 9:16 Cynthia E: Good Friday morning traders! 9:17 Cynthia E: Great job yesterday Alice - Congrats! 9:17 irishrover: good mornign Cyn 9:17 Carol: GM Cyn 9:17 alice: Thxs and Good Morning 9:17 irishrover: awesome Alice 9:17 alice: thxs Irish 9:18 bru17: gm Cyn 9:19 alice: morning bru 9:19 Cynthia E: Morning Irish, Bru, Carol! 1
9:19 Cynthia E: 9:20 Cynthia E: Here is the overnight histogram, prices overnight have been in a tight range relative to the range we've seen over the last two days. 9:21 Cynthia E: All inventory is net short of the YC, in the upper range of yesterday's rally. 9:23 Hawk: good mornin everyone 9:24 Cynthia E: See Chart on Next Page: 2
9:25 Cynthia E: So far we have avoided taking out last week's low to set another 1 TF DOWN week, and the lower trend channel has acted as very strong support. 9:26 Cynthia E: 9:26 Cynthia E: Price has moved just below the CL on the here. 9:26 Cynthia E: And, the last 2 days have been PERFECT examples of Rule # 1. 9:27 Cynthia E: On Wednesday, Shorts were most definitely favored, and yesterday longs! This is why we look at price position relative to the CL. 9:28 Cynthia E: See Chart on Next Page: 3
9:28 Cynthia E: On the 3600, the indicators are opening mixed. 9:28 Cynthia E: Moving averages are trending strongly higher, but the LT STO is in the neutral zone, and the ERG is already below zero. 9:28 Cynthia E: Thus, caution should be taken, give the market a bit of time to open up and settle here this morning. 9:30 Cynthia E: Layla 9:30 Cynthia E: Volume today is on the NEW or front month contract of Sept 9:31 Hawk: Cyn, does Ensign update automaticly? 9:32 Cynthia E: Yes because I have all the charts built to run on ES #F which is the master symbol rather than the month specific symbol. ES #F is a continuous symbol. 9:32 Cynthia E: for esignal users 9:32 Hawk: ok thnx 9:32 Cynthia E: Current price should be 1629 Hawk 9:33 Hawk: Yup, got it 9:34 irishrover: sp 29.5 on test of overnight t/l 9:35 ctp: I just got here, so forgive me if it has already been discussed... does anyone else see a descending triangle? 9:35 irishrover: yes 9:36 Cynthia E: The overnight inventory has created a symmetrical triangle, price is still inside of it so far here as we test into the point. 9:37 Cynthia E: The symmetry is a bit more evident on the 900 tick rather than the 3600 tick 9:37 ctp: somewhat 9:37 ctp: I still see it more as a descending triangle 9:38 ctp: much flatter on bottom 9:38 Cynthia E: On the is certainly looks more like a descending triangle. 4
9:38 Cynthia E: *it 9:38 irishrover: I kept charting that triangle and it keeps broadening to upside and downside during the last hour. 9:39 ctp: 4 solid touches at on the :40 ctp: 9:43 irishrover: out +1, news coming out 9:43 ctp: However, with CL right below us on the and the YC above, I will probably be looking for a long setup 9:43 Cynthia E: B period continues to auction here, with price remaining in a very narrow range for B. 9:45 Cynthia E: When the indicators are in neutral, it is always a good idea to all the market a bit of time to open and see where price and value migrate and what cues the histogram can start to offer. 9:45 Cynthia E: *allow 9:46 irishrover: close above wma 9:50 Cynthia E: As price continues to move higher here, indicators on 3600 are actually setting up short, but they would have to turn sharply here to confirm any action. 9:51 ctp: CL and price intersecting top line of descending triangle here 9:51 Cynthia E: I say that because the LT STO is still heading downward, and the ST STO has come up from the bottom, and the ERG is testing the zero line as resistance. 9:51 Cynthia E: Thus, a sharp turn lower of the ST STO and the ERG turn purple and cross lower would be a short here. 9:52 Cynthia E: And we are testing the CL as resistance also. 9:52 irishrover: FYI, read an article on MW yesterday about subscribers getting ISM and consumer sentiment numbers before market release. 3 min for ISM and 2 seconds for sentiment. Yes, that's right... 2 seconds. 9:52 irishrover: Looked above N low by 2 ticks, also. 9:55 Cynthia E: Consumer sentiment coming out 9:56 Cynthia E: 26 is still the important support to break - but here is the downturn the indicators were setting up 9:57 NPR: Irish, that is a common practice...it happens for ALL kinds of information 9:57 Al: 82.7 vs estimate 9:57 Cynthia E: It would take 26 for the indicators to confirm 9:57 irishrover: 82.7 vs 84.7 exp 9:57 ctp: See Chart on Next Page: 5
9:58 bru17: number a bit lower but market seems to like it 9:58 irishrover: G8 meeting underway 10:00 Cynthia E: 30 secs to C period 10:00 Cynthia E: C opened in extreme uppper range of B period and trying to extend higher. 10:01 irishrover: lp :01 irishrover: on test of prior resistance 10:02 alice: L 33 10:05 RMFJ: what contracts are y'all trading? 10:06 irishrover: ESU3 10:06 Cynthia E: Sept 10:06 RMFJ: k thought so, thx! 10:06 Cynthia E: U=Sept 10:07 Cynthia E: Now that price has moved above the CL - we have to see if the LT STO can move back up to bullish, or if we keep rotating. The overnight action and B period action has caused the critical line to flatten some. 10:07 Cynthia E: What we are really looking for is another cycle of the ST STO and ERG to confirm a long while the LT STO continues to move back into the bullish zone. 10:08 Cynthia E: As of right now the symmetrical triangle has just expanded to include the YH to today's high, with the ONL on the bottom side to today's low 10:09 Cynthia E: And we are still inside the full overnight range. 10:09 irishrover: Cyn, What exactly are we looking for ST sto and erg to do to confirm? ST sto over 80 line and green dots on my Erg is still not in bullish zone, though. 10:10 Cynthia E: The ST STO needs to turn back down and then head back up, the ERG needs to turn purple and bounce off the zero line as support and turn white and head back up 10:11 Cynthia E: The position of the ERG this close to neutral with the LT STO in neutral is just confirming SOH currently 10:11 Cynthia E: Remember it is common for trend days to be followed by consolidation days, and we've had 2 huge trend days back to back. 10:13 irishrover: yes, that's why I am targeting YC. 10:14 Cynthia E: 6
10:14 Cynthia E: Here is the scenario I've been describing. 10:17 Cynthia E: Now, once again, with the LT STO heading lower, a strong turn here on the ST STO and ERG could trigger a short. 10:18 Cynthia E: 32 is acting as good support here for now 10:19 Cynthia E: C is 1 TF UP and has not yet tested the HW 10:22 irishrover: Cyn, as far as ST sto and erg confirming. Is this enough of a retracement before the confirmation? Is there any rule of thumb on how much is enough vs too much? 10:22 Cynthia E: no, not really 10:22 Cynthia E: But we would have to see the indicators turn back up to have any kind of confirmation 10:22 irishrover: For example, would you want erg to stay above signal line or not really. 10:23 Cynthia E: no not really - it can dip - but you do want it to stay above zero 10:23 irishrover: thx Cyn. :) 10:23 Cynthia E: Sure! 10:24 Cynthia E: Alice what is your stop? 10:24 alice: 30 10:24 Cynthia E: We've been discussing stops a lot this week and many are impressed by your results, so it would help them to see your thinking - or how much room you give your trades to work 10:24 irishrover: mine is on break of HW 10:24 alice: but may not wait that long 7
10:25 Cynthia E: So she is in long at 33 with a stop at 30 - she is giving it $3.00 pts, I know many of you try to restrict your stops to $1.5 to $2 (that is normally too tight 10:26 alice: low vol 10:26 Cynthia E: yep, rollover and quad witching 10:26 Cynthia E: and the day after two huge trend days 10:27 McFly: CYN do you avoid trading on rollover days as a rule? 10:27 Cynthia E: Yes! It is in the FAQ - Trade Tips area. 10:27 McFly: thanks. 10:27 Cynthia E: I do not trade on rollover days and I do not trade during FED Announcements. 10:28 Cynthia E: Yesterday was an anomaly, not the rule for rollover days. 10:28 alice: out 10:28 Cynthia E: In fact so far - today is acting more like a typical rollover day 10:28 irishrover: ouit 10:28 Hawk: sp :30 RMFJ: hey anyone make that long trade yesterday into 1637 :)? 10:30 Cynthia E: Alice banked $20 big ones! :) Go Alice :) 10:30 irishrover: All-ice had 20 pts 10:30 RMFJ: very awesome! 10:31 Hawk: gj alice 10:31 irishrover: RM you did great as well 10:31 RMFJ: I wish I didn't have to go yesterday 10:31 RMFJ: I wanted to ride that sucker into there 10:31 alice: Most was just luck, if I had been here I would have sold earlier 10:31 Cynthia E: ah - the famous gym trade? 10:31 RMFJ: haha 10:31 RMFJ: Alice's process, trade, gym, cash checks 10:32 irishrover: lol 10:32 Cynthia E: :) lol 10:32 alice: company and got until 2:00PM 10:32 alice: wide stop with only one contract 10:32 Cynthia E: awesome! 10:32 Carol: sounds like a plan RM 10:32 RMFJ: I need to start going to the gym I guess :) 10:35 alice: Irish we weren't wrong yet just chicken 10:36 mrandersen10: short retest and rejection of CL/VAH? 10:36 irishrover: well, unfortunately we didn't have the C low to gage our stops. But erg need to bounce off zero line here if we were. Not so sure now. 10:36 Cynthia E: D period has opened deep inside B period, has not yet taken out the C low to break the trend pattern, but the day is setting up non-trend so far. 10:36 irishrover: D is a bull test run to HW and failing so far. 10:38 Cynthia E: SHORT SCOUT :39 Cynthia E: targeting a base hit - I'll accept 27 if doesn't look like it can break 10:40 irishrover: still a very tight range of only 7.75 pts 10:41 Cynthia E: See Chart on Next Page: 8
10:41 Cynthia E: I was in the process of building this when that trade triggered. 10:41 irishrover: that's different 10:42 Cynthia E: I wanted to show you all a side by side comparison of B, C, D periods for the last 4 days - the one on the far right is this morning. 10:42 Cynthia E: Looking at it this way makes it very clear if a morning is setting up a TREND style day or a rotational BALANCE style day. 10:45 Cynthia E: Internals are also very flat here today so far 10:45 irishrover: Nice work Cyn. 10:46 Cynthia E: Thanks, I hope that's helpful. That is the kind of thing you should be assessing as early as possible with respect to the histogram analysis 10:47 Hawk: out :48 Cynthia E: Chased and filled at :48 irishrover: ^ 3.25 Hawk 9
10:48 bru17: nice job Hawk 10:48 Carol: gj Hawk 10:48 bru17: nice Cyn 10:48 Cynthia E: That wraps up my week! 10:48 Cynthia E: I'll take where I stand to the bank. 10:48 Hawk: 15 Cyn? 10:48 irishrover: Excellent Cyn 10:49 Carol: cheers Cyn 10:49 alice: gj all 10:49 Cynthia E: Monday +2.5, Tues +4.50, Wed +4, Thurs - no trades, Fri = + $13.75 for week on 6 trades for the whole week! 10:49 irishrover: outstanding 10:50 Hawk: Awesome 10:50 Carol: great average 10:50 alice: good job Cyn, steaded edd 10:51 Cynthia E: thanks all 10:51 RMFJ: excellent! on 6 trades! 10:51 McFly: Excellent disciplined results 10:51 RMFJ: that is the total opposite of my week 10:51 RMFJ: :) 10:51 Cynthia E: Monday - 1 trade, Tues - 2 trades, Wed - 2 Trades, Thurs - 0, Fri - 1 trade 10:52 RMFJ: I'm working on my over trading 10:52 Cynthia E: It's not how many times you pull the trigger, it's what happens when you pull the trigger! 10:52 RMFJ: spoken like a true sniper 10:53 irishrover: That's the qoute of the week. Hot of the press material. 10:53 Cynthia E: Now D period is gaining some momentum here and extending lower 10:54 Cynthia E: So we could NOW be developing a 1 TF DOWN pattern with C as excess on the high because we took out the C low as well as the excess on the low in B period 10:55 Cynthia E: However, we are still relatively just a small amout outside the overnight range 10:57 irishrover: stopped just above 4 TPO area from yesterday 10:58 Hawk: Yesterdays HW too 10:59 Cynthia E: Here is the home run on this move 11:00 irishrover: heck of a candle on 15 min chart. 11:00 Cynthia E: I was focused on the base hit, looking to lock in points for the week and due to the type of day we were having prior to this extension. 11:01 irishrover: big bear gap from B low. 11:01 Cynthia E: E period opened with a BEAR GAP and is building a bear run! 11:01 Hawk: Thats why I exited Cyn, was expecting more balance 11:02 Cynthia E: See Chart on Next Page: 10
11:02 Cynthia E: Here is the bear gap I am speaking of. 11:03 Cynthia E: Points are points Hawk! Take them and enjoy them! 11:05 alice: out +5 11:05 Hawk: sp :06 Billiam(BL): Great Job Alice! 11:06 alice: thxs Billiam 11:06 Hawk: 3600 TL entry 11:07 Cynthia E: Fabulous Alice! 11:07 alice: thxs Cyn 11:07 Carol: great trade, Alice 11:07 alice: thxs all 11
11:08 Cynthia E: Right to the 22/21 range (the pull back low/rally high area) from the last 2 days? 11:08 Cynthia E: Yep! 11:14 irishrover: ^5 Alice 11:15 alice: thxs Irish 11:15 irishrover: Hawk, r u short? 11:15 Cynthia E: I want to step back a bit a mention again - because I want to be sure you all SEE what I'm trying to see on the :15 Cynthia E: I'm going to copy a few lines I posted earlier 11:16 Cynthia E: 8:50 Cynthia E: As price continues to move higher here, indicators on 3600 are actually setting up short, but they would have to turn sharply here to confirm any action 8:51 Cynthia E: I say that because the LT STO is still heading downward, and the ST STO has come up from the bottom, and the ERG is testing the zero line as resistance. 8:51 Cynthia E: Thus, a sharp turn lower of the ST STO and the ERG turn purple and cross lower would be a short here. 11:19 Cynthia E: 11:19 Cynthia E: Here is what the chart looked like when I made those comments! 11:20 Cynthia E: The LT STO had moved OUT of the bullish zone to neutral and was heading lower. Despite the move around the CL - price was consolidating which was allowing the CL to flatten and rollover as the LT STO was forecasting the REAL move to come. 12
11:21 Cynthia E: 11:22 Cynthia E: Here was the progression at 9:10 - price had moved up and sideways and the ST STO and ERG had made the green arrow path up that I drew in the last chart. 11:22 Cynthia E: Now - I'm sure you are asking - "But! Wait! Didn't the LT STO start heading higher at this point?" And you would be correct - but let me show this SAME picture with a few more drawings. 11:23 Al: When the ST sto crossed the ST sto and the erg crossed the zero line is when the short appeared 11:23 Cynthia E: See Chart on Next Page: 13
11:24 Cynthia E: Now, what do you see? 11:24 Cynthia E: Isn't that a LT Hidden Divergence Short? 11:24 Cynthia E: And how many times have I said the divergences created OVER TIME are MUCH more significant then the ones created in 30 mins or less? :) 11:25 Al: Only when the ST sto crossed the LT sto and the erg crossed the zero line, did the short occur, correct? 11:25 irishrover: nice, I focus on ST so much I never even look for things like that and had no idea when you mentioned it earlier. 11:26 Cynthia E: This divergence is actually on the LT STO rather than the ST STO!!! That makes it MUCH MUCH more important because in order for the LT STO to reflect a divergence - it has to have been created over MANY hours (and in this case yesterday, the entire overnight, and the first hour this morning). 11:26 irishrover: and that would make it more reliable, right? 11:27 Cynthia E: Correct on the ERG cross Al, but I don't pay attention to the crosses on the STOs (they are simply on the same indicator area so that we don't have 3 indicators) 11:27 Cynthia E: EXACTLY Irish! The LONGER the time it takes for the divergence to develop, the more dramatic the move and the higher the probability of success. 11:27 Al: So then, what indicator did you look at to go short at that time, the erg? 11:28 Cynthia E: Remember I look for SLAM DUNKS - and I needed 1 base hit today to wrap up my week - I was waiting for that to confirm for an EASY slam dunk! And as you can see it went FAR beyond what I needed to get the base hit. 14
11:28 Cynthia E: Price Al! 11:28 Cynthia E: Let me keep posting charts 11:29 irishrover: Have to ask, Why did you wait to short it at 29.5, as opposed to close below CL? 11:31 Cynthia E: 11:31 Cynthia E: Here was the signal! Focus on the LT STO - not the shorter indicators because you want the confirmation of the long term divergence. 11:31 Cynthia E: Right when price closed below the CL - the LT STO was actually still flat; however the shorter term indicators were in position. 11:32 Cynthia E: By the close of this candle the LT STO had turned lower also! So I hit MARKET 11:32 irishrover: so when ST sto got back to LT sto, price was at :33 Cynthia E: See Chart on Next Page: 15
11:34 Cynthia E: Let's look this way - that way you can't confuse the ST STO position at all! 11:34 Cynthia E: Ignore it all together. 11:34 Cynthia E: I was tracking the LT STO! 11:34 Cynthia E: This week we've been talking about SLOWING down the trade decisions. Using the longer term charts - and indicators! 11:34 Hawk: Yes irish sp :35 Cynthia E: I was waiting for the LT STO to stop being flat and to roll down to confirm the divergence. 11:35 Cynthia E: AND! Let me throw one more chart up! 11:36 Cynthia E: See Chart on Next Page: 16
11:36 Cynthia E: AH HA!!!! 11:36 Cynthia E: I should hear it in chorus! 11:36 Cynthia E: :) :) :) 11:36 irishrover: lol 11:36 Cynthia E: NOW!!!! Do you all see the divergence short? 11:37 Cynthia E: The LT STO on the 3600 = the ST STO on the 14400!!!! 11:37 Cynthia E: On this chart it's VERY difficult to miss! And again, when the patterns appear on the longer time frame, they have a MUCH higher probability of success! 11:38 Cynthia E: FYI - it is also clear here to see that the entry was ALSO the breakout of the symmetrical triangle that was developing from the overnight and first hour! 11:39 Cynthia E: And - as a side note was the closing price of the 1st green candle here that CLOSED below the CL on the basis. Because I was waiting on the longer term pattern, I had to wait on the longer term confirmation! :) 11:40 Cynthia E: Does anyone have questions, comments, ideas? 11:42 Cynthia E: Quiet group here! :) 11:43 Cynthia E: This is why we use fractal views of the market , 3600, it allows us to see what's going on in several time frames in relation to our overall outlook developed from the Morning Update (longer term charts). 11:43 irishrover: lp 24.5 at counter channel support, stop on close below channel. 11:44 Cynthia E: When you play the larger channels you increase your proability for success. 11:45 Hawk: out :45 irishrover: yes, and in hindsight that channel looks like a bear flag. 11:46 Cynthia E: See Chart on Next Page: 17
11:47 Cynthia E: Yes! Here is the channel in play today 11:47 Cynthia E: The challenge is always this... 11:48 irishrover: out 23.5, -1 11:49 Cynthia E: On days when we get extreme balance and chop - the only viable trades come from playing the smallest channels visible (like the 900 and reversion to the mean stuff) - but on days when we get any type of trend at all - the faster you can shift your thinking to the 14400, the faster you'll bank points like Alice yesterday by riding the long term trend the whole day. 11:50 Cynthia E: Now F period is an outside day period - which increases volatility 11:51 Hawk: Awesome info this week Cyn. And points too. Have a great weekend evryone, see yall monday 11:52 irishrover: u2 Hawk 11:52 Cynthia E: The reason taking base hits makes good sense is that days like yesterday and Wednesday make up only 15-20% of all market days. That means that smaller more chop style swings occur the other 80-85% percent of days. 11:52 Cynthia E: Have a great weekend Hawk! 11:54 Cynthia E: Relative to our discussion this week on over-trading, a short homework assignment! 18
11:55 Cynthia E: Go to Hot Topics --> Trade Lessons --> Over-Trading Explained. Review that article. There is a lot of detailed info in there on the psychology of why we attempt to over-trade in the first place. 11:57 irishrover: Good stuff Cyn, I'll read it twice. :) 11:57 Cynthia E: Great! :) 11:58 Cynthia E: Okie Dokie! It's that time of day. I have to go put my farm hat on and hit the tractor - it's hay season here in AR! :) 11:58 Cynthia E: Everyone have a fantastic weekend. 11:58 alice: u too Cyn 11:59 irishrover: c u Cyn 11:59 Cynthia E: *** REMINDER *** James Dalton, Markets in Profile - Chapter 1 - STARTS 11:30 EST / 10:30 EST!!!!
