With an interdisciplinary and transversal apprach, this Jurnal pses a renvatin f the studies n the past, relating them and dialguing with the present, breaking the traditinal frms f thinking based n chrnlgy, diachrnic analysis, and the classical facts and frms f thinking based exclusively n textual and dcumental analysis. By ding s, this Jurnal aims t prmte nt nly new subjects f Histry, but als new frms f addressing its knwledge. Editrial plicy Manuscripts that d nt fall within the scpe f Culture & Histry Digital Jurnal and thse which d nt strictly fllw these Authr Guidelines will be returned t the authrs. After a first cnsideratin by the Editrial Team r a Scientific Editr, manuscripts will be duble blind reviewed by tw independent, external experts, and by a third ne if cnsidered necessary. Generally, there will be n mre than tw runds f reviews. The Editr-in-Chief will decide t accept r reject the manuscript based n the reprts and recmmendatins f the reviewers and the Scientific Editr. The authrs f the submitted manuscripts will be ntified abut the initial acceptance fr review r rejectin f their paper within ne mnth. The review prcess will rutinely last between 4 t 6 mnths. In exceptinally cases, invited cntributins may be published under a less stringent review prcess. Calendar Culture & Histry Digital Jurnal appears as ne yearly vlume, divided int tw issues, frmally published in June and December f every calendar year. Sme Issues f the Jurnal may have a Mngraphic Sectin fcusing n the presentatin and discussin f a specific subject. A Miscellaneus Sectin will cver varied material, and anther additinal sectin will fcus n histrigraphical and methdlgical reflectins. After the final crrectins, articles included in the Mngraphic Sectin will be published nline as scheduled fr every Mngraphic Issue. Articles included in the Miscellaneus Sectin culd be published nline immediately r, in any case, within a perid f six mnths after acceptatin.

2 Frmat Culture & Histry Digital Jurnal is an Open Access, nline Jurnal. Articles will be published nline as HTML, XLM and PDF, and made freely available t readers withut restrictins immediately upn nline publishing. The CSIC reserves the right t distribute fr sale the cmplete issues as an ebk, whether as PDF, epub, r any ther pssible present r future electrnic frmat, and/r under a print-n-demand paper frmat. These alternative frmats will be identical in cntent, will retain the same cpyright as the single articles in the nline editin, and will be cnsidered equivalent fr all purpses. Submissin f manuscripts fr review and apprval Cntributins must be preferably in English. Occasinally, the Editrial Bard will als cnsider the receptin f articles in ther languages. Submitted manuscripts will first be checked fr language. Manuscripts substandard n this respect will be returned withut review. Submissin f a manuscript implies that all c-authrs have apprved and agreed n the cntent f the submitted text, tables, graphic material, and any ther supplementary materials prvided. It is the respnsibility f the crrespnding authr that all c-authrs have the crrect infrmatin n the submitted manuscript. All submissins must be accmpanied by a cver letter r text clearly expressing the riginal, unpublished cntent f the manuscript, and that the manuscript has nt been simultaneusly submitted fr cnsideratin t anther jurnal. Electrnic submissin The text must be submitted t histria.digital@cchs.csic.es fs.dc frmat (d nt use.dcx frmat), using the surname f the crrespnding authr as filename. Image files shuld be labelled accrdingly t their cntent, placed tgether with the main article text file in a single flder labelled as abve, and then cmpressed int a single ZIP file. Manuscripts with embedded images r multimedia files will be returned withut prcessing. Vectr graphics exprted frm a drawing prgram shuld be saved as EPS (Encapsulated PstScript) frmat. Fnts used in the graphics (use Times r Times New Rman) must be included. Suitable prgrams include Freehand, Illustratr and Crel Draw. Nte that mst presentatin prgrams, such as Excel and Pwer Pint, prduce data that cannt be prcessed since they d nt supprt the exprt f EPS data. Halftne images. Send clur illustratins as CMYK, and mntne as greyscale in TIFF r JPEG frmat. Whenever yu use JPEG frmat, chse maximum quality instead f high cmpressin in the ptins windw. Suitable prgrams include Phtshp, Picture Publisher and Pht Paint, but thers cmplying these indicatins may als be suitable. The manuscript must be rganized as fllws: First page Title f the article in blded lwer case Cmplete name (first name, middle initial(s) if any, and family name), institutinal affiliatin and pstal address, fax number and address f the authr(s). Secnd page ABSTRACT: N lnger than 200 wrds, in a single paragraph. KEYWORDS: Six t eight keywrds useful t describe the subject(s) f the article. D nt use wrds already present in the title. English and Spanish Title, Abstract and Keywrds: An English and Spanish translatin f the title, abstract and keywrds. If the article is written in a language different frm English r Spanish, the abstract and keywrds shuld be in the pertinent language and als in Spanish. Text: length and sectins Ntes Length: the text must nt exceed 13,000 wrds typed in 12 pint Times/Times New Rman fnt and ne and a half space interlineate. Text: rganize the article int clear, cmprehensive parts, keeping subdivisins t a minimum. Main headings shuld be in blded capital letters, first subheadings in blded lwer case, and subsequent headings, when needed, in italics. D nt number sectins. Dashes (use larger dashes when equivalent t a cmma (,) and the smallest dashes t separate dates and numbers [ ]). Acknwledgments (shuld immediately fllw at the end f the text). After the persnal acknwledgments, include the funding agency and the Prject cde, if applicable. 4 Ntes shuld be used sparingly, nly t prvide abslutely essential additinal infrmatin r clarificatin, when inclusin f that infrmatin in the text culd be disruptive t the flw f the manuscript. Ntes shuld be numbered sequentially in Arabic numerals as they appear in the text. T call fr a nte in the text, use a superscript, placed after the grammatical punctuatin when applicable. The sectin with the text fr all ntes begins a new page after the end f the Reference list sectin, under the heading "Ntes". Duble space all entries, and list the ntes sequentially. In-nte reference citatins must fllw the same style as in-text citatins. Example: In-text call t a nte: "Mre studies have been carried ut n this subject. 1 " Citatin in the Ntes sectin: 1. In relatin t the presented glbal interpretatin and further reading abut the demgraphic and ecnmical structures, see especially Chapman (1990); Fernández-Miranda (1992); Delibes et al. (1994); Micó (1995); Risch (1995); Castr et al. (1998a; 1998b) and Mlina and Cámara (2005). Abbreviatins, numbering, etc. Sme Latin abbreviatins are set in Rman type because they have been thrughly incrprated int English (nte that n cmma fllws the abbreviatins). These include: e.g./ i.e./ ca./ in situ/ vs/ per se/. Figures and tables shuld be numbered sequentially in the rder that they appear in the text. D nt place figures r tables in the main bdy f the text, but at the end f the manuscript, as indicated abve. References t figures in the main bdy f the text shuld be entered in full, r abbreviated when included between parentheses. Examples: "The spatial distributin is shwn in Figure 3." "The Balearic Islands (Fig. 1) are separated frm the Iberian Peninsula by " References t tables in the main bdy f the text shuld always be entered in full. Examples: Units and numerical values "The data in Table 1 shw..." "By cmparing the data (Table 1), the same cnclusin..." When nt required by the cntext, use Internatinal System units (km, m, kg, g, etc.). Use the symbl "t" fr metric tns. Fr hurs, minutes and secnds, use the symbls "h", "min" and "s", respectively. Use spaces between the quantity and the units (e.g. 2 m, 3 kg, 7 g). Exceptins: degree Celsius C, latitude r lngitude units and % (e.g. 37 C; 41 N, 1 17'E and 10%). D nt include spaces between the fllwing symbls and numeric values: ">" (larger than), "<" (less than). Example: >7, <7. Use a dt "." r a cmma "," as a decimal marker depending n the language used in the article. D nt use any symbl t separate thusands (e.g r 10300). 4

5 Date frmat In the text, use a date frmat cherent with the chsen language, English r Spanish. In the Reference list and fr URL accessin dates, use the sequence day/mnth/year, with the mnth fully written ut. Separate URL accessin dates with a slash "/" and n spaces. Example: In-text: "On the 14th f July " "On July 14th, " Reference list: Diari de Cádiz [DC], 7 July 1902 URL accessin date: [accessed 09/April/2010] In-text reference citatins As a general rule, the authr(s) are prmpted t fllw the Harvard Reference System. A qute that is larger than three lines shuld be detached frm the main text and indented, and shuld nt be in cursive. A small qute (less than three lines) shuld be part f the main text and in inverted cmmas and d nt use italics. When citing, include the year f reference, r authr and year f reference, between parentheses, as required by the style. Within a parenthesis, separate citatins by a semicln (;). Cite up t tw authrs by their names; when citing wrks by three r mre authrs, use the expressin "et al." after the name f the first authr; this expressin shuld be used nly in the text, never in the reference list. When citing cntributins by the same authr(s) within the same year, use a,b,c, sequentially after the year. Disambiguate cincidences in names and year by using the authr's initials r first names. Use apprpriate frmat fr nn-english language titles with respect t capitalizatin, accents, etc. Fr titles published in nn-rman alphabets (Chinese, Cyrillic, etc.) give the title in Rmanized transcriptin when pssible, with the translatin f the title int the language f the article fllwing immediately in brackets. 5

6 Always place the authr's name in reverse rder [family name(s), given name(s)] separated by a cmma. Add a semicln (;) t separate cnsecutive authrs when tw r mre are included, using "and" befre the last authr. Jurnal names must always be cited in full (n abbreviatins). Papers "in preparatin" r "submitted" are nt acceptable as references. Once accepted, they may be quted as "in press", but nt befre. The reference frmat must be strictly fllwed. Citatins fr much primary-surce material will be archive specific, s that it is impssible t devise a rte frmula fr citatin. It is imprtant t include the name f the archive, title f the wrk (if named), nature f the material (e.g., letter [ptinal], cllectin name, identificatin number (legaj, fascicle, fli, etc.), date (if knwn), and gegraphic lcatin f material. After first mentin, simply use [DC] with date and page. La Crrespndencia de España [LCE] "Vladura del Maine", 16 February [accessed 08/December/2011] Tables Tables shuld be cnsecutively numbered with Arabic numerals and typed n separate pages. Tables shuld be designed t fit in a DIN A4 page, and the headings given abve each table. Figures and multimedia (vide and/r sund) When submitting a manuscript, figures must be placed at the end f the manuscript and each figure must include its captin in the lwer part. Once the manuscript has been accepted fr publicatin, grup the figure captins tgether and send the figures in separate files (see belw). All nn-riginal figures must indicate the surce in the figure captin. 7

8 Drawings, graphs and phtgraphs shuld be carefully presented n separate sheets. Figures must be prepared t fit int DIN A4 paper size and still be readable. All figures included in a manuscript shuld use the same fnt type. Avid very thin r very thick lines. D nt use clur if an illustratin is t be reprduced in black and white. Figures presenting the study area shuld include a small general map shwing a larger gegraphical regin. Maps must shw the lcatins cited in the text, and the names f seas r ceans. Please, avid plitical maps, unless necessary fr crrect cmprehensin. Indicate ºN, ºS, ºE r ºW, and always include a scale reference. Multimedia (vide and/r sund) files must be indicated in the text. 8
