1 Prjectins Submissin Infrmatin fr Cntributrs FORMAT OF SUBMISSIONS Prjectins invites and cnsiders fr publicatin submissins in the fllwing frmats: (a) Article. Submissins in this categry may include clse analyses f individual wrks, theretical reviews r meta-theretical prjects, histrical investigatins, analysis f film crpra, riginal empirical research, r data-driven analysis f films. Articles shuld be 6,000 t 8,000 wrds, including ntes and references. (b) Discussin piece. This categry is fr shrt papers that critically discuss and advance debate arund articles recently published in Prjectins. Authrs f the article that is the target f a prpsed discussin piece will be invited t reply, and a discussin piece will nrmally nly be published if the authr f the riginal article accepts the invitatin t reply. Discussin pieces shuld nt exceed 3,000 wrds, including ntes and references. (c) Sympsia. Sympsia pieces are fr brief, targeted discussins (3 t 8 individual papers) f either a tpic f recent interest r a significant publicatin f Prjectins r a target article specifically written t be discussed in Prjectins. In the frmer case, sympsia will include a précis f the external publicatin. Individual sympsia pieces shuld nt exceed 4,000 wrds, including ntes and references. (d) Bk reviews and review essays. Bk reviews shuld nt exceed 2,000 wrds, including ntes and references, which shuld be minimal. Review essays, which discuss tw r three recently published bks n a related tpic, shuld nt exceed 5,000 wrds. GUIDELINES FOR ARTICLES INVOLVING EMPIRICAL RESEARCH AND DATA ANALYSIS ORGANIZATION & STYLE Authrs f articles reprting empirical studies shuld prepare manuscripts in accrdance with the Publicatin Manual f the American Psychlgical Assciatin, 6th ed. Frmatting instructins and instructins n preparing tables, figures, and references, and well as a full sample article, appear in the manual. Hwever, due t the interdisciplinary apprach encuraged by Prjectins, we will als cnsider nntraditinally structured empirical articles. Such articles may be best served by nging discussin f results as they are presented rather than the traditinal separatin between Results and Discussin sectins. Please nte that such articles must still include all the necessary infrmatin set ut in the APA publicatin manual and fllw the SAMPL guidelines fr statistical reprting (see belw) t ensure full transparency and ptential fr replicatin. GUIDANCE ON REPORTING STATISTICS Fr an intrductry verview f hw t reprt statistics cnsult the SAMPL guidelines here. We welcme studies using descriptive/explratry data analysis, as well as hypthesis-driven studies, but authrs shuld ensure that all cnclusins are supprted by the apprpriate statistical tests that are fully mtivated and transparent t allw replicatin. Statistical analyses based arund null hypthesis statistical testing (NHST) shuld als include pwer calculatins (when pssible) and reprt effect sizes. ABSTRACT/KEYWORDS 1

2 The article must include an abstract f n mre than 150 wrds and 6 t 8 keywrds. The abstract shuld nt duplicate the text verbatim but rather include the research questin r puzzle, identify the data, and give sme indicatin f the findings. Keywrds shuld be drawn frm the cntent and nt duplicate the article title, listed in alphabetical rder, and separated by cmmas; nly prper nuns shuld be capitalized. ARTWORK Authrs are encuraged t include up t 6 figures, including tables and/r still images. Clr images are encuraged fr the nline versin, but these will be printed in black and white in print. Fr ptimal reprductin, figures r phts shuld be submitted as high-reslutin JPGs r TIFFs (300 ppi), r as EPS files with all fnts embedded. Additinally, all images shuld be at least 4 x 4 inches at 300 ppi. Tables shuld be made and submitted in Micrsft Wrd r rtf. Cntributrs can capture images frm DVDs with any number f sftware prgrams (e.g., Tpaz fr Windws; DVD Snap fr Mac). By transferring images t Phtshp, cntributrs can cnfigure them t 300 ppi and resample them t a suitable size. All figures and tables shuld be in separate files and numbered cnsecutively; nly placement indicatrs and captins with credit lines shuld be included in the articles themselves. In additin t a descriptive captin, each image shuld be prvided a credit line, indicating the distributin cmpany that wns the image and the year in which the image was released: e.g., Pulp Fictin (Miramax, 1994). COPYRIGHT/PERMISSIONS Upn acceptance, authrs are required t submit cpyright agreements and all necessary permissin letters fr reprinting r mdifying cpyrighted materials, bth textual and graphic. The authr is fully respnsible fr btaining all permissins and clearing any assciated fees t reprduce cpyrighted materials. COVER PAGE The cver page shuld prvide the title f the article, cmplete cntact infrmatin fr each authr (mailing address, phne number, and ), bigraphical data f apprximately 100 wrds fr each authr, a ttal wrd cunt, the number f tables and/r figures included, and any acknwledgments. Affiliatins and addresses will be psted nline fr indexing/abstracting purpses. FORMATTING/STYLE Please see ur dedicated style guide belw fr details. Manuscripts must be submitted in Micrsft Wrd and set at the US letter standard size. The entire dcument (including ntes and references) shuld be dublespaced with 1-inch (2.5 cm) margins n all sides and n extra spaces between paragraphs. A 12-pint standard fnt such as Times New Rman is required fr all text, including headings, ntes, and references. Any unusual characters r diacritics shuld be flagged by placing the entire wrd in red type. CITATIONS Prjectins uses the in-text authr-data reference system based n The Chicag Manual f Style. Every article must include a cmplete reference list at the end. Endntes shuld be brief and kept t a minimum. A separate filmgraphy is n lnger required. Please cnsult ur dedicate style guide belw fr further details and examples f references. TEXT CALLOUTS T highlight particular arguments r key phrases, authrs may chse 4 t 8 text calluts f a sentence each, drawn frm the article text, t appear in the margins f the published article. Place them in numbered list at the end f the manuscript, and indicate their placement in the text with the ntatin: <Callut 1 abut here>. 2

3 SUBMISSION AND REVIEW PROCESS Submissins f articles and discussin pieces must nt be under cnsideratin r review at any ther publicatin. Authrs shuld ensure that all self-identifying infrmatin (including metadata) is remved frm all parts f the submissin except the cver page. Authrs may indicate if they wuld like their submissin t nt be sent t a particular persn fr review if there is a cncern abut, e.g., bias. Referees are nevertheless assigned at the editr s discretin. The review prcess wrks as fllws: (1) Article submissins are given an initial prereview screening by the editr and/r the assciate editrs. The editr decides, based n the submissin s alignment with the jurnal s Aims and Scpe and its adherence t the submissin guidelines, whether t send the sub missin ut fr peer review. If the decisin is nt t send the article ut fr review, the editr cntacts the authr explaining the decisin with reference t the Aims and Scpe and/r the submissin guidelines. (2) The editr assigns at least tw blinded peer reviewers t cmment n the article and make a recmmendatin as t whether it ught t be published. (3) The editr receives the referee reprts and weights their cmments and recmmendatins. (4) At the editr s discretin, a third peer referee and/r ne f the assciate editrs may be asked t evaluate the article and ffer an additinal recmmendatin. (5) The editr cntacts the authr with ne f the fllwing decisins: a. Accepted uncnditinally. b. Accepted cnditinally, subject revisins carried ut t the satisfactin f the editr and in the time frame specified by the editr. c. Rejected, but with encuragement t revise and resubmit. Resubmissins must nrmally be made within three mnths f the riginal decisin and shuld track and/r utline hw the revisins have addressed the referee cmments. The resubmissins will be sent ut t at least ne blinded referee, and acceptance will be cnditinal n the suggested revisins being carried t the satisfactin f the editr. d. Rejected, withut encuragement t resubmit. (6) The editr will include cmments frm the peer reviewers alngside the decisin. Usually, the peer reviewers will remain annymus, althugh they may chse t sign their review. In all cases, the editr has the discretin ver what cmments are frwarded t the authr. PUBLICATION Manuscripts accepted fr publicatin that d nt cnfrm t the style guide may be rejected r returned t the authr fr amendment. The editrs als reserve the right t alter usage t cnfrm t the style guide issued by the publisher. Authrs cannt supply new materials r request majr alteratins fllwing the cpyediting stage, s please ensure that all text is final upn acceptance. Cntributrs will receive ne free cpy f the relevant issue and may purchase additinal cpies at a reduced price r purchase ffprints. STYLE GUIDE The Prjectins style guide is based n The Chicag Manual f Style (CMS). Please nte that the jurnal uses US punctuatin and spelling, fllwing Merriam-Webster s Cllegiate Dictinary. CITATION SYSTEM Prjectins fllws the in-text authr-date reference system. Every article must include a cmplete reference 3

Any films mentined r discussed in the article shuld prvide apprpriate release infrmatin, such as year and directr, and riginal title as needed, within the text itself.
