Structure f the assignment Basically an assignment cnsists f three parts: a) Intrductin: This sectin intrduces the tpic and the research questin t be addressed. It shuld cntain a clear statement f the aim f the assignment. It can als include an utline f the argument in the main sectin f the assignment. b) Main sectin: This sectin cntains a discussin f the research questin, that shuld be structured in a lgically cnsistent way, fr example histrically r thematically. This is fllwed by presentatin, analysis and interpretatin f yur data. c) Cnclusin/Summary/Perspectives The sectin summarizes the main findings and shuld refer back t the research questin set ut in the intrductin! Where apprpriate, it can 2

3 als refer t issues that have nt been reslved and where further study is required. It shuld be a presentatin f yur wn knwledge f the tpic. In ther wrds, yu will cnsult a range f articles, internet sites and bks in rder t gain a picture f yur tpic and expand yur wn knwledge f it. The list f references shuld have a reasnable length. As a rule f thumb, it shuld cntain: One bk r mngraph (t be read selectively) and three t five jurnal articles and/r bk chapters r Eight jurnal articles and/r bk chapters (fr Bachelr- r Master Thesis yu need mre literature) A list f this length will prvide a slid grunding fr a seminar paper and a subsequent assignment. The literature recmmended in the curse utline shuld be the starting pint fr yur reading, but further independent research is als essential. Yur reference list shuld list all materials cnsulted, including internet sites and vides. In-text references (citatins): In-text references shuld be placed at the latest at the end f the crrespnding sentence, r at the beginning if it is clear at the start f the sentence that infrmatin r pinins frm the surce will be referred t. This rule applies t all surces f infrmatin and pinins, including published material, ral cmmunicatins, lecture ntes, and electrnic media such as radi, TV, the Internet, vides and sund recrdings. Direct qutatins shuld be fllwed immediately by a 3

4 citatin (althugh this can als precede the qutatin if it is referred t in the preceding text). Use f the Harvard referencing style is bligatry.
