3 Editorial PROFILES Nicole Byers EDITOR-IN-CHIEF Juliet Rieden EDITOR Michael Sheather NEWS EDITOR Mattie Cronan STYLE DIRECTOR In a media career spanning over 20 years, Nicole Byers has worked across a number of high profile weekly and monthly magazines both in Australia and the UK including monthly titles New Woman, SHE and B Magazine as well as music monthly Ministry. Cutting her teeth as a sub-editor, writer and entertainment editor, for the past 10 years Nicole has edited many of the country s most successful weekly titles, including TV WEEK, NW, Woman s Day and OK! Magazine. Nicole has been Editor of OK! Magazine for the past seven years and Editor-in-Chief across NW and OK! Australia since 2014, a role that has encompassed print, digital and social platforms across these two well- loved brands. Editor of The Australian Women s Weekly and Managing Editor of The Australian Women s Weekly one shots on subjects ranging from health, to homes, royals, food, colouring in and finance, Juliet is also the magazine s Royal Correspondent, books editor and edited its 80th birthday souvenir issue. At The Weekly in addition to her Editor responsibilities, Juliet has forged impeccable contacts, especially with the royal families in Denmark and the UK and scored global exclusives with HRH Prince Charles and Crown Princess Mary. Juliet s other exclusive interviews include Magda Szubanski, Maggie Tabberer, Dame Helen Mirren, Julianne Moore, Susan Duncan and more. Juliet s investigation into Australia s Hillsong Church was nominated in the 2016 Publish Awards. Micheal has been writing for The Australian Women s Weekly for more than seven years. He makes a significant contribution to the news content of the publication with exclusive celebrity interviews and important Australian stories. Michael was the first journalist to interview Stuart Diver after he was rescued from the Thredbo disaster site back He has interviewed every Australian PM since John Gorton, with the singular exception of Malcolm Turnbull. Michael has been highly commended in his career most recently winning Publishers Australia Journalist of the Year 2014, Finalist Publish Australia Journalist of the Year 2015, Finalist Publish Australia Single Story of the Year 2015, Runner-up, Publish Australia Journalist of the Year 2015 and Winner, Publish Australia Single Story of the Year Mattie started her tenure with The Weekly over five years ago and continues to lead the fashion team to create concepts for the fashion pages and celebrity shoots, and bring the pages to life. Growing up in a family of dress makers led Mattie to study Fashion Design at East Sydney Fashion Design Studio (notable alumni include Collette Dinnigan, Akira, Michelle Jank and Dion Lee) After meeting Judith Cook (former AWW Style Director) she interned with her at InStyle which led to a job, then led to AWW. Mattie has many achievements as a Fashion Director, most recently The Weekly won the Maggie Award for Best Lifestyle Cover for the shoot with Crown Princess Mary, which she styled in Denmark.

4 Editorial PROFILES Professor Kerryn Phelps MEDICAL PRACTITIONER Professor Kerryn Phelps is Adjunct Professor at Sydney University in the Faculty of Medicine in the Schools of Public Health and General Practice. Professor Phelps has been a familiar face to many Australians over the last 20 years during which time she has appeared regularly on television, radio and in the print media informing the Australian public on important health issues. Professor Phelps has been the medical practitioner for The Australian Women s Weekly for over 15 years, and she also writes regular political commentary for Medical Observer Magazine and Australian Wine Selector Magazine. Fran Abdallaoui FOOD DIRECTOR After graduating with a diploma in Home Economics from East Sydney TAFE, Fran began her career freelancing for several well-known Australian food writers. She joined Baur Media way back in 1994 as a young home economist in The Weekly s world famoustest Kitchen, where she honed her recipe development skills under the guidance of her mentor, Test Kitchen and Editorial Director, Pamela Clark. Fran later worked with AWW Cookbooks as Assistant Food Editor and joined The Weekly s magazine food team in 1999 as Deputy Food Editor. After gaining practical experience in all aspects of food publishing (from the ground up), she was appointed Senior Food Editor and then promoted to Food Director. Fran enthuses, This really is my dream job, I love The Weekly, it is such an iconic Australian magazine put together by an extremely talented group of professionals. Michele Cranston FOOD EDITOR-AT-LARGE Michele Cranston has been cooking and styling for 20 years in a career that has included working in various restaurants, setting up an acclaimed café, cooking creatively for a food production company in London and writing about food. Michele originally trained as a visual artist but her love of food soon took her into the world of restaurants and food media. She was the Food Editor at Marie Claire magazine for five years and has just completed her 11th Marie Claire cookbook. She is presently the Food Editor-At-Large at The Australian Women s Weekly, a position she has held for the past three years. As well as writing, she is a freelance food stylist working in areas as diverse as magazines, television commercials and advertising. Pamela Clarke EDITORIAL AND FOOD DIRECTOR, COOKBOOKS With over 35 years at The Australian Women s Weekly Cookbooks, it s no wonder Pamela Clark is a household name in Australian cooking. If you ve ever cooked or baked, chances are you were using a recipe tested by Pamela. These triple tested cookbooks are staples in many Australian homes. Pamela started off as chief home economist in the AWW Test Kitchen making sure the recipes worked and were triple tested. This included working on some of the classics such as Chinese Cooking Class Cookbook, The Original Australian Women's Weekly Cookbook and the book that everyone has a story about, The Children s Birthday Cake Book. Since then Pamela has remained close to the famous Test Kitchen in various roles. Today, Pamela is the Editorial and Food Director of The Australian Women s Weekly Cookbooks, producing over 40 cookbooks a year.

6 Editorial PILLARS WOMEN OF THE FUTURE: The Australian Women s Weekly, Women of the Future campaign celebrates young women determined to make a difference in Australia s future across a variety of industries. In its 5th year the prize bursary is open to women years old and the prize pool totalled at $100,000 shared amongst 3 winners. Our winners were judged by a high profile panel of Australia s most influential women including, Lisa Wilkinson (Co-host, Today Show), Lucy Turnbull (Businesswoman, lawyer and wife of Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull), Julie Bishop (Foreign Minister) and Olivia Wirth (Qantas Group Executive). Australia s first female Governor-General is Patron of the Women of the Future Awards, the Hon. Dame Quentin Bryce, the awards is then celebrated with 100 other influential leaders, national legends and high profile stars attended the Women of the Future luncheon to recognise and acknowledge the finalists and their achievements.
