TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF ENTRY 1.1 VALIDITY OF CONDITIONS: All General and Special Cnditins as printed in the Schedule f Events are valid fr, and cntinuing fr, the time f the Eisteddfd. 1.2 AMATEUR STATUS: All cmpetitins are pen t amateurs nly, except where therwise specified. The term amateur is defined as ne wh des nt derive a substantial surce f incme frm the exercise f his r her talent in the particular class fr which he r she may have entered. (N.B. Teachers f pian r vice wh are nt prfessinal perfrmers are nt disqualified frm perfrming in the Lieder Item as singer r as pianist). 1.3 ENTRY NAME: The cmpetitr must cmpete under his r her real name and nt a nm-de-plume. 1.4 AGE DETERMINATION: In all Items, age shall be reckned as at 31 December in the year f cmpeting at the Queensland Eisteddfd. 1.5 ENTRY ACCEPTANCE: The Lcal Organising Cmmittee (hereafter referred t as LOC) reserves the right t reject an entry. The LOC may disqualify a cmpetitr fr breaching ne r mre f these rules at any time up t and/r fllwing the perfrmance. 1.6 PUBLICITY: Acceptance f an entry by the LOC is cnditinal upn the cmpetitr agreeing t the publishing f the cmpetitr s name in the Eisteddfd Prgramme, and results and/r phtgraph in the media. The LOC may prvide relevant persnal details t the Eisteddfd Cuncil f Queensland Inc. (hereafter referred t as ECQ) and in turn, future LOC(s). 1.7 PRELIMINARIES: Preliminaries may be held in any Item, except Chral Items. 1.8 WITHDRAWALS: Cmpetitrs shuld advise the Secretary if withdrawing frm an Item f cmpetitin. There will be n refund f Entry Fees. 1.9 PROTESTS: All prtests must be in writing and be ldged with the Secretary f the LOC within ne hur f the cnclusin f the Sessin cntaining the Item t which the prtest relates. A prtest shall be accmpanied by a fee f $20 that shall be refunded if the prtest is upheld RISK: Cmpetitrs appear in all Items entirely at their wn risk. 2. STAGE PRESENTATION 2.1 PIANO PITCH: Pians shall be tuned t A440 fr all musical items. The use f pre-recrded electrnic backing r accmpaniment is nt permitted in Chral r Vcal Items, unless specifically stated in the schedule. 2.2 MUSIC STAND: In all Items, vcal, chral, sl, and grups f three r fewer, the LOC will prvide music stands fr cmpetitrs r cnductrs. 3. CHORAL TROPHIES 3.1 Each trphy remains the prperty f the ECQ until wn utright. In the interim, a trphy may be held by the winner at ne Eisteddfd until ne mnth befre the next Eisteddfd. The temprary hlders f the trphy will be respnsible fr its safekeeping, insurance, engraving and return t the LOC. 4. CHORAL COMPETITIONS 4.1 CHORAL ELIGIBILITY requirements are as fllws: (a) Chral cmpetitins in their respective classes are pen t any bdy f unpaid singers. (b) N member may sing in mre than ne cmpeting chir in a particular item. N preliminary cntests are t be held in Chral Items. All attending eligible members f cmpeting chirs are expected t cmpete in all Chral Cntests entered by the chir. (Open Music Theatre accepted). (c) Open Chral Items are restricted t christers 15 years r lder.

3 4.2 USE OF SOLO PARTS: Where sl parts are specified in Chral Items, the parts s marked may be sung, at the discretin f the Cnductr, either cllectively by the whle f the vices r by n fewer than three selected vices in the respective sectin f the chir. 4.3 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS are as fllws: (a) OWN CHOICE RESTRICTION: Chral bdies may nt use a set piece r any f their wn chice selectins fr three years fllwing a perfrmance in a Queensland Eisteddfd. (b) HAND MOVEMENTS: Hand mvements and chregraphy are permitted nly where and if indicated in the musical scre (Music Theatre excepted). (c) ACCOMPANIED OWN CHOICE Accmpanied means pitched accmpaniment that is integral t the tnality f the perfrmance (d) TIME LIMIT Time limit is a maximum f seven (7) minutes. 4.4 USE OF ENGLISH: Own Chice selectins in the Open Chief Chral, Grand Madrigal, Sacred Chral, Ladies' Chral, and Men's Chral Cntests, Open Mdern Chrus Cntest, Welsh Hymn Singing, Small Vcal Ensemble r Male Vcal Ensemble (Items 101, 102, 103, 104, 105, 106, 108, 110 and 111) may be sung in English r the riginal language. All ther chral and ensemble perfrmances MUST be sung in English. 4.5 CHORAL AGGREGATES: These will be determined as fllws and apply t the cntests listed belw: (a) CALCULATION OF AGGREGATES: Chral Aggregates shall be calculated n the basis f allcating 7 pints fr 1st Place, 6 pints fr 2nd Place, 5 pints fr 3rd Place, 4 pints fr 4th Place, 3 pints fr 5th Place, 2 pints fr 6th Place, and 1 pint fr 7th Place in each f the relevant Items. A tie is pssible. (b) OPEN GRAND CHAMPION CHOIR: The Open Grand Champin Chir is defined as the chir which gains the highest pint aggregate in the Open Chief Chral, Open Grand Madrigal, Open Sacred Chral, Open Ladies' Chral, Open Men's Chral and Open Mdern Chrus Cntests (Items 101 t 106). (c) OPEN CHALLENGE (LINDSAY STATHAM MEMORIAL) AGGREGATE: The Open Challenge Aggregate winner is defined as the chir which gains the highest pint aggregate in the Open Sacred Chral Cntest, Open Men's Chral Cntest, and Welsh Hymn Singing (Items 103, 105 and 108).See Cnditin 4.5a. (d) YOUTH CHORAL AGGREGATE: The Yuth Chral Aggregate winner is defined as the chir which gains the highest pint aggregate in the Intermediate Chral, Yuth Mdern Chrus, Yuth Music Theatre and Junir Chral Cntests (Items 112, 113, 114 and 115). (e) Any Chir entering mre than ne grup in any cntest included in an aggregate must nminate the grup t be included in the aggregate calculatins at the time f entry. 5. VOCAL COMPETITIONS 5.1 ENTRY REQUIREMENT: Unless therwise stipulated, Adult Vcal Items are restricted t cmpetitrs aged 18 years and ver. N cmpetitr shall be allwed t cmpete in tw vcal classes, such as Baritne and Bass, Spran and Mezz-Spran r Dramatic Spran and Cntralt. 5.2 ADULT SOLO: Cmpetitrs may cmpete in an Adult Sl cmpetitin (Items 139 t 144 inclusive) and the respective Champinship sl cmpetitin (Items 122 t 128) at the same Eisteddfd, subject t the restrictins in Cnditin N ADULT SOLO RESTRICTION: Adult Vcal Sl cmpetitins (Items 139 t 144 inclusive) are restricted. (a) T thse wh have nt wn a Vcal Champinship cntest (Items 122 t 128) at any Queensland Eisteddfd held under the auspices f the Eisteddfd Cuncil f Queensland, r: (b) T thse wh, having wn such a cntest at any time, have since cmpeted unsuccessfully fr tw (2) successive years in a Vcal Champinship at such an Eisteddfd.. (c) Entrants in Vcal Sl cmpetitins, subject t the restrictins in (a) and (b) abve, are permitted t als enter and cmpete in their relevant Vcal Champinship Item at the same Eisteddfd. (Please nte additinal restrictins peculiar t Item 145)

4 5.4 OPERATIC ARIA: Cmpetitrs in the Operatic Aria Item must cmpete in at least tw ther vcal Items. 5.5 TRANSPOSITIONS: Transpsitins are allwed fr Sl Vcal music, except Operatic Aria (Item 129), Oratri r Sacred Cantata Sl (Items 131 and 132) and Champinship Items (Items 122 t 128). 5.6 USE OF ENGLISH: Except in the Lieder Cntest, Vcal Champinships (where riginal language is printed in the set albums), the Operatic Aria, Oratri r Sacred Cantata, Flk Sng, Welsh Sl, Yung Ladies' (16-20) and Yung Men's (16-20) Sls (Items 117, 122 t 128, 129, 131, 132, 136, 137, 147 and 148), all ther vcal wrks must be sung in English. 6. VOCAL AND SPEECH AGGREGATES 6.1 CALCULATION OF AGGREGATES: The Vcal Champin f Champins Aggregate, Yuth Vcal Aggregate (16 t 20 years) and Speech Aggregate shall each be calculated n the basis f 4 Pints fr 1st Place, 3 Pints fr 2nd Place, 2 Pints fr 3rd Place, and 1 Pint fr 4th Place in each f the relevant items. A tie is pssible. 6.2 VOCAL CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS AGGREGATE: The Vcal Champin f Champins is defined as the cmpetitr wh, having wn their Champinship Sl Item, gains the highest pint aggregate in their respective Champinship (Items 122 t 128), Art Sng (Item 130), Oratri r Sacred Cantata Sl (Item 131 r 132), and placing in the Operatic Aria Final (Item 129). 6.3 YOUTH VOCAL AGGREGATE: The Yuth Vcal Aggregate (16 t 20 years) winner is defined as the cmpetitr wh gains the highest pint aggregate in the Yuth Vcal Sl (Ladies/Men) (Item 147 r 148), Sng by an Australian Cmpser (Item 149), Ballad (Item 150), and Sacred Sl (Item 151). 6.4 SPEECH AGGREGATE: The Speech Aggregate winner is defined as the cmpetitr wh gains the highest pint aggregate in the Verse Speaking Champinship (Item 501), Pem by Australian Authr (Item 502), and Memrised Prse Speaking (Item 503). 7. OWN CHOICE SELECTION 7.1 MATERIAL: Own chice material (cntent and presentatin) must be suitable t be perfrmed at an Eisteddfd. Careful cnsideratin shuld be given t the use f language that culd be ffensive. N carse language is permitted in any item. 7.2 OWN CHOICE USE: In all Own Chice Items ther than Chral Items (see 4.3a), cmpetitrs are debarred frm using wn chice items with which they have wn a first prize in the previus year s Queensland Eisteddfd. 7.3 PERFORMANCE LIMIT: An wn chice selectin may be perfrmed in nly ne Item. 7.4 SUBMISSION: Cmpetitrs in all wn chice items must submit a cpy f their selectin with the required attached identificatin frm t the Secretary s ffice in accrdance with the requirements set dwn by the LOC. The cpy must be accmpanied by an authrisatin in accrdance with Rule COPYRIGHT ARRANGEMENTS 8.1 COPYRIGHT: There are a number f cpyright requirements by Natinal administering rganisatins t which the ECG and cmpetitrs must adhere when they are using and/r cpying published music r literary wrks. Infrmatin n these and the relevant frms are available frm the LOC ffice. 8.2 ADJUDICATOR S COPY: Phtcpies f wn chice material must be marked as Adjudicatin Purpses Only and will be destryed by the LOC after each sessin. Phtcpies must be accmpanied by the apprpriate AMCOS frm lcated in the Cmpetitin Schedule and Prgramme. The cmpetitr will nt be permitted t perfrm if the adjudicatin cpy is nt submitted in accrdance with these rules (see 7.4). 8.3 COPYRIGHT RESPONSIBILITY: The LOC is nt respnsible fr any infringement f cpyright r ryalty by individual perfrmers r thse assciated with the perfrmances, wh use cpied material at their wn risk.

5 9. OFFICIAL ACCOMPANISTS 9.1 PROVISION OF OFFICIAL ACCOMPANISTS: Official Accmpanists will be prvided by the LOC when necessary fr the vcal items staged ver the Easter weekend. Cmpetitrs may engage their wn accmpanists. Cmpetitrs requiring the fficial accmpanist fr rehearsal shuld make their wn arrangements with the accmpanist. The agreed fee as advised is t be paid direct t the accmpanist. 9.2 SUBMISSION: Cmpetitrs in wn chice Vcal Items requiring an Official Accmpanist ver the Easter Weekend must have the music in the hands f the nminated cntact by 17 th March, Prgramming may require the use f mre than ne Official Accmpanist, i.e. the use f ne Official Accmpanist fr all requirements may nt be pssible. Official accmpanists are required t remain nly in the venue t which they have been assigned t ensure n delays in the cnduct f sessins. 9.4 Official Accmpanists may be engaged fr accmpanying n a private basis fr sessins when they are nt n duty as the Official Accmpanist at anther venue. 10. ADJUDICATION 10.1 AWARD ON MERIT: N prizes will be awarded unless, in the pinin f the Adjudicatr, perfrmances attain an apprpriate level f quality. Tied placings are nt awarded (ther than fr aggregate pint ttals) TIME LIMITS: Where time limits are specified they must be strictly applied. A bell will be rung at the expiratin f the time and the perfrmance will nt be adjudicated after that time REPORT SHEETS: Adjudicatr reprt sheets may be btained frm the Secretary s ffice after each Item r Final has cncluded. Cmpetitrs unsuccessful in reaching a Final may btain their reprt sheets after the cnclusin f the last preliminary held fr that Item. Reprt sheets are free f charge APPEALS: The Adjudicatr s decisin is final and may nt be appealed, except in the case when it cntravenes these rules COMMUNICATION WITH THE ADJUDICATOR: Cmpetitrs, teachers, parents, guardians r ther interested parties shall nt cmmunicate with the Adjudicatr during the Eisteddfd until they have cmpleted their final cmpetitin AT NO TIME DURING COMPETITION, SHOULD THERE BE MORE THAN ONE ADJUDICATOR SEATED AT THE ADJUDICATION TABLE OTHER SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS 11.1 AGE LIMITS: WHERE AGE LIMITS ARE SET, NO COMPETITOR MAY ENTER OUTSIDE HIS OR HER OWN AGE GROUP, EXCEPT IN THE ITEMS WHERE SUCH A CONDITION IS WRITTEN. THE AGE OF A COMPETITOR SHALL BE DEFINED AS THE AGE AT THE 31 ST OF DECEMBER IN THE YEAR OF THE COMPETITION 11.2 YOUTH SOLO: Age grups fr entrants in Yuth Vcal Sl Items are defined as 16 t 20 years OPEN AGE LIMITS: Unless therwise specified, cmpetitrs in an Open Item may be f any age RE-APPEARANCE RESTRICTION: Cmpetitrs may nt appear twice in any Item judged as a duet, tri r quartet, r in any Chral, Vcal r Speech Items. 12. CONDUCT OF SESSIONS 12.1 ATTENDANCE: Cmpetitrs must be available at the time scheduled fr their Item. Cmpetitrs are t reprt t the Cnductr f the Sessin befre the cmmencement f the Item COMPETITOR ORDER: The Cnductr f Sessins reserves the right t change cmpetitr rder f appearance in Items. Cmpetitrs wh are cncerned at the pssibility f a clash f Items shuld alert the Cnductr f Sessins f the respective sessins wh shuld take every pssible step t accmmdate them. It is the respnsibility f cmpetitrs t ensure they return t venues as sn as pssible t cmpete. Invlvement in Chral Items must take precedence.
