1 E 137 CLASS PRESENTATIONS Each student will share smething interesting related t the day s reading fr abut 5-7 minutes. Presentatins are graded nly insfar as they are factred int a student s verall curse participatin grade (which is 5% fr the semester). Students d nt receive an individual, separate grade fr their presentatin, just as they d nt receive a separate grade fr each cmment they share in class. Students receive an verall participatin grade fr their class invlvement ver the entire semester, and presentatins are the mst memrable example f that invlvement. Presentatins make the class and the material memrable and engaging. We re glad t listen t yu and hpe yu enjy sharing what yu ve learned. Feel free t make yur presentatin casual and brief. It can be a little under 5-7 minutes r a little ver n big deal. When students g ver 10 minutes, I encurage them t wrap it up. If yu want t use the cmputer (t shw vide clips, PwerPint slides, etc.) yu can, but yu aren t bligated t. Yu re in charge. Fr each class sessin, I ve listed tpics fr presentatins. Belw are sme typical nes: An authr s bigraphy (by the way, ur bk has bigraphical infrmatin n all assigned authrs) A histrical event r petic mvement Brief summary and pints f interest f a given wrk Smething else related t an authr r era I ve learned that mst students actually prefer t be given a tpic than t create ne, but if yu d like t create yur wn presentatin tpic, please feel welcme t d s just check with me first. There are ther presentatin pssibilities: yu culd fill in sme gaps in ur curriculum r make sme cnnectins. Here are sme ideas: T fill gaps, yu culd: Tell us abut a text we re nt reading that is by an authr we are discussing. Perhaps read a little and explain what yu like abut it r think is interesting. Tell us a little abut an authr we re nt reading that is in the perid we are discussing. Shw us an interesting website related t an authr, text, r perid (yu can use the cmputer). Critique an authr r text we re reading, listing what yu dislike. T make cnnectins, yu culd: Explain why an authr we re studying reminds yu f smene else. Perhaps cnnect the authr with anther artist r thinker in histry a cmpser, painter, sculptr, philspher, scientist, etc. Explain why the wrk f an authr reminds yu f anther wrk f art (past r present). Perhaps cnnect the wrk with a mvie, televisin shw, sng, painting, etc. Share cnnectins yu might have made in yur respnse t a reading respnse questin. Share yur wn pem imitating an authr we re discussing. Share yur wn artwrk inspired by an authr r text we re discussing. Or cme up with smething else. * The Presentatin Sign-Up Sheet Fllws n the Next Page *
