4 E1 - Information STAGE 2 Learning intention I will use persuasive language to convince others. Example Topic sentence using a rhetorical question Do you want a better life? (keep writing with more description) Explain it a bit more using alliteration You should sail South because... and...not only do you... but... (keep writing descriptively) Stage 2 1. Using all SIX persuasive language techniques from your table, write a TEES paragraph which persuades English settlers from 1793 to live in Australia. Example of tricolon (rule of 3s) and hyperbole (exaggeration). In Australia, land is bountiful with fertile soils, natural rivers and lakes. It is the best place in the whole world to live and you will rich beyond your dreams Significance (importance) of your point using an imperative You will need to research and find facts about Australia s early settlers. They are your audience. You should go to Australia now! A TEES paragraph structure has 2. Post your completed work to StudyTurf-English-Stage 2. Stage 3 Using the knowledge you have gained about persuasive language, imagine you are back in time: When?!! 1793 Where?!! England Who?!! You are the Captain of the Bellona, about to sail to Australia in two weeks. FINAL TASK 1. Persuade the audience of English men and women to join you on a journey to a better life by creating a print advertisement. Use persuasive language, add images, sound effects or music to highlight all the fantastic things about Australia! 8 E2 - Knowledge STAGE 2 Learning intention I will use persuasive language to convince others. Stage 2 1. Choose a print advertisement with substantial persuasive language. Example Can you identify the TEES in the following paragraph? The McDonalds print advertisement shows text over the image of their signature Big Mac hamburger. The text shows irony, meaning that when you eat a boring, bland salad to be healthy, you really want to eat a Big Mac because it tastes better. The advertisement persuades the reader by juxtaposing and contrasting the word salad with the picture of the Big Mac behind it. The language is a statement which the reader would agree with. 2. Describe in two paragraphs how the persuasive language positions the audience to agree with them. Use the TEES paragraph structure Topic sentence 2. Post your completed work to StudyTurf-English-Stage 2. Explain it a bit more Evidence or example Summary sentence showing the significance of your point. Using the knowledge you have gained about persuasive language, imagine you are back in time: When?! 1860 Where?! State of Victoria, Australia Who?! You are a bushranger who is friends with Ned Kelly. FINAL TASK 1. You have been accused by police for stealing a horse. Write a persuasive speech using persuasive language techniques to defending yourself against the accusation. Use any other evidence such as pictures, drawings, logic, testimonies from reputable people who know you, witnesses and so on to build your case. What kind of tone is written? Which is the most convincing? Why? 2. Describe in two paragraphs how persuasive language techniques creates the tone of each article. Example The opinion article,, written by on the (date), features a (describe) tone which positions the reader to side with their point of view. The author uses (persuasive language technique) (quotation) to (what is the effect on the reader?). This means that (explain it a bit more) which contributes to the overall tone of (describe the tone of the article). Use the TEES paragraph structure Topic sentence 3. How will you juxtapose the two groups of people? Examples Using the knowledge you have gained about persuasive language, imagine you are back in time: When?!! 1788 Where?!!
