4 HONOR BAND & ORCHESTRA OPPORTUNITIES Participatin in an hnr bands & rchestras prvides a challenging, musically rewarding pprtunity fr students and helps them t advance their musical knwledge and understanding beynd simply playing in their wn high schl grups. Hnr grup participatin als lks great n cllege and university applicatins. Hnr grups are extra, meaning that they are in additin t yur first cmmitment, which is t yur wn prgram here at Ranch Mirage. Mr. Gaylrd des grant sme schedule exceptins t hnr band students when verlaps ccur, but as always it is the student s respnsibility t wrk this ut in advance. We encurage all f ur students t seek ut an hnr band r rchestra experience this schl year. INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC LESSONS We cannt pssibly verstate the value f a band student taking private lessns n his/her instrument. Aside frm daily individual practice, bviusly, there really is n ther single way fr a musician t imprve their skills than t take individual lessns with a prfessinal. These can be a simple half-hur a week, r an hur twice a mnth r (ideally) an hur a week. The band experience is a full grup experience and des nt cntribute t individual grwth f each player nearly as fast as private lessns can. Our master classes are like a grup lessn, but individuals gain mre frm ne-n-ne attentin. D yu take private lessns n yur instrument? is ne f the very first questins we ask students in any f ur auditins; fllwed by, Hw ften? and With whm? 6 TIPS TO BE STRESS FREE Rehearsal schedules, perfrmances and ther cmmitments can make fr an exceptinally stressful time f year, especially as the weather is cld and immune systems tend t be weaker. 1) Start the day right. Try t find a rutine get up a little earlier than yu typically d. Eat smething befre yu start yur day. It s imprtant t set the tne fr the rest f yur day. 2) Relax. Find mments f calm in ur ever-busy lives and schedules is imprtant when it cmes t maintaining a balanced lifestyle. These mments can be anything that yu find relaxing, such as running, listening t music, reading a bk, playing yur instruments fr pure enjyment, r just sitting and breathing we ften frget t truly let ur bdies and minds relax. 3) Detx frm digital devices. Managing stress has becme mre difficult as fear f missing ut has becme mre and mre a part f ur digital lives. Digital detxing has becme increasingly imprtant as far as stress management is cncerned try turning yur phne ff fr ne day a week r a mnth. Yu might be surprised at hw liberating it feels. As we cntinue t be mre invested and deeply cncerned with the nline versins f ur lives we bring n mre stress and a mre cnfused identity. Making time t see friends and family in persn has been linked t peple reprting feeling mre fulfilled and happy. 4) Get sme sleep. Getting plenty f rest is als a key part f stress reductin. If yu have truble falling asleep r staying asleep, try sme f these tips and tricks. Keep a pad f paper and a pen next t yur bed t jt dwn any lingering thughts that are keeping yu awake. Als, eliminate digital light in the wee hurs f the night and reserve yur bed fr nly sleep. All in all, incrprating even just a few f these suggestins int yur new health rutine will have yu feeling a little mre at ease and stress-free.
