1 Caritas Chrale Member Infrmatin MEMBERSHIP: Membership is pen t anybdy in the cmmunity wh has a desire t sing great chral music. Many peple with little musical experience have develped their singing and musical skills thrugh the Chrale. Althugh an ability t read music is an advantage, it is nt necessary, and there are n auditins fr prspective members. We are cmmitted t maintaining a friendly and enjyable rehearsal experience while achieving high standards f musical perfrmance. Membership in Caritas Chrale prvides an pprtunity t members f the lcal cmmunity t be part f a high-quality chir with an excellent perfrmance venue, a respected artistic directr/cnductr, a highly skilled accmpanist, access t music scres, and the chance t perfrm with prfessinal and semi-prfessinal musicians. MEMBERSHIP FEES: Timely payment f yur fees helps t keep the chir s finances stable and sustainable. Fees are reviewed each year, and apprved by the Bard f Directrs. REHEARSALS: Where: Our Lady f the Snws Sun Valley Rd., Sun Valley, ID When: Mnday 6:30 pm 8:15 pm Other rehearsals may be scheduled as needed, particularly in the week prir t a cncert. Rehearsals each week prvide a structured pprtunity fr the chir t review the ntelearning that singers have undertaken n their wn time, and t develp harmny and expressin acrss the mix f parts and vices. Punctual attendance at rehearsals is essential. Please arrive earlier at the start f each rehearsal term t pick up music. Fr mst perfrmances, at least ne additinal rehearsal is scheduled clse t the perfrmance date. MUSIC SCORES & CONCERT BINDERS Music scres are prvided t each singer at n cst. Scres fr each rehearsal term are purchased in advance accrding t the expected number f singers participating in that term. All singers are required t have a standard black music binder fr use at all perfrmances. These are available at lcal ffice supply stres. Occasinally we may send music scres as attachments fr yu t print at hme. Please ask fr a cpy t be prvided if yu d nt use r have access t a printer. T sing at a perfrmance, yu are expected t jin rehearsals by the deadlines specified fr that term, and t attend rehearsals regularly, the last three prir t a perfrmance being 1

PREPARING FOR REHEARSALS The Caritas website, prvides access fr singers t n-line rehearsal files. Please bring alng these things t each rehearsal: Yur music scre Yur pencil and eraser fr marking up yur scre A bttle f water if yu like EXPECTATIONS OF CARITAS CHORALE MEMBERS As a member f Caritas Chrale, yu are expected t: Cntribute psitively t the experience f rehearsals, shwing respect fr the cnductr and yur fellw singers by listening carefully and nt disrupting rehearsal time by talking. Ntify yur sectin leader f any change t yur cntact details. Maintain yur financial status by paying all fees n time. Give ntice f yur absence frm rehearsals, either by r phne, r by letting yur sectin leader knw in advance. Keep up t date with all ntices and news issued t members. Undertake practice n yur wn time t ensure yu knw yur part befre rehearsals. Then in rehearsals, yu can cncentrate n hearing hw yur part fits with all the ther parts and, cllectively, develping the chral dynamics. PERFORMANCES AND PERFORMANCE DRESS STANDARDS The Chrale s well- established reputatin fr excellence in musical perfrmance has been assured by the cmmitment f singers t musicianship. The chir s image n stage is als imprtant, and care must be taken with appearance, grming, psture, and rderly sitting, standing, and entrance and exit frm the stage. There is a general standard fr perfrmance dress. The fllwing requirements ensure the chir has a cnsistent and distinguished appearance, which assists the audience t cncentrate n the vices and nt the clthes. 4 Caritas Chrale Member Infrmatin ARTISTIC DIRECTOR S SUGGESTIONS FOR SINGERS 1. Practice! And practice sme mre! The mre yu practice, the mre enjyable chir rehearsals will be fr yu and everyne. Make sure yu have a gd methd f practicing, even when yu knw the music well. Listen t yur music files regularly, and see hw yur part blends with the ther parts. Learning t sing the ntes and wrds and getting the timing right is nly the first stage. It s hw the chir (and ther players) sing tgether which is the creative and really satisfying part. 2. Make the mst f chir rehearsals. One f the greatest jys f singing in a chir is achieving a clse bnd between Artistic Directr/Cnductr and chir. This is the way we achieve fantastic dynamics, precise timing and unity f interpretatin and emtinal effect fr urselves and the audience. Watch the cnductr. Learn the music well enugh that yu re nt lking at yur scre all the time with yur face and eyes dwn! Learning by heart is als great memry training and yu will be surprised at hw much mre liberating and enjyable singing is when yu knw the ntes and the wrds. 3. Cntribute psitively t the cmmunity f the chir. Prducing a beautiful chral sund tgether under the guidance f a prfessinal musical directr is the unique experience we cme t rehearsals t share. Turn yur mbile phne OFF r t silent. 4. Attend rehearsals regularly. Realize that yur attendance at chir every week is part f the whle experience fr everyne. Even if yu knw all the ntes, yu need t be there t be a part f the cmbined blending f vices. 5. Lk after yur vice. Keep yurself well hydrated, aviding diuretics like caffeine and alchl befre singing. During rehearsals, sit r stand with gd psture back straight, shulders, neck and jaw relaxed in rder t supprt yur vice and take the strain ff the vcal crds. Cnsider having singing lessns and refreshers t imprve yur vice and understanding f music and singing. 6. Enjy the thrill f perfrmance. Make sure yu are familiar with all instructins, fr example, abut preparing yur scre in advance, the prcedure fr ging n and cming ff stage, and the cues fr sitting and standing thrughut the perfrmance. Watch the cnductr as much as pssible, keeping in mind the pivtal rle played by the cnductr in ensuring all parts cme tgether beautifully chir, slists, rchestra, instrumental slists t bring the cmpser s wrk t life, and t enable the interpretatin f the music t be exacting, exciting, inspired and magical.
