4 SOUTHWEST INTERNATIONAL HONOR BAND & ORCHESTRA SOLO SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION This year, the Suthwest Internatinal Hnr Band & Orchestra Festival invites interested students t take part in the first ever Sl Cmpetitin. This cmpetitin will recgnize at least ne utstanding musician fr their musical accmplishments and reward them with a schlarship shuld they attend New Mexic State University and majr in music. The winner f the cmpetitin will be annunced during the festival. In rder t receive the award, the winner must attend SWIHBO. An accmpanist Students shuld indicate n their applicatin whether r nt they plan t take part in this event by checking the apprpriate bx. Schlarships amunts may range frm $500 $1,000. Requirements fr the cmpetitin are as fllws: Perfrm a sl n lnger than 7 minutes in length and submit vide recrding as part f auditin prcess t the SWIHBO.

8 36 th ANNUAL SOUTHWEST INTERNATIONAL HONOR BAND & ORCHESTRA FESTIVAL INFORMATION HOUSING All nn-lcal students (thse living utside the Las Cruces/El Pas area) will be staying at the Sleep Inn, r the Cmfrt Suites, Check-in may ccur after registratin and during lunch beginning at 10:00am n Friday, February 9, Yu may cntact the htels persnally fr early check-in. Directrs attending the SWIHBO Festival weekend will need t ntify the band ffice n later than January 26, 2018 t have their rm (2 directrs t a rm) paid fr by NMSU Bands. Otherwise yur rm will be yur respnsibility. Others (parents, chapernes, etc ) need t make and pay fr their wn arrangements but we will blck rms at each htel if yu wuld like t bk frm thse fr yur stay. Rm rates vary frm $79 - $99 a night. Students and their directrs will be ntified which htel yur schl will be assigned. Special arrangements must be made with the band ffice at if yu will nt be staying at the htel and are a nn-lcal student. MEALS NMSU Bands will pay fr all festival csts except sme meals, travel, and a $35.00 registratin fee. Crbett Center and University Avenue has a variety f dining areas t accmmdate large grups f students t eat n and ff campus. There are a number f restaurants within walking distance frm the Music Center. PARKING SHUTTLE (T be cmpleted by Trista) CHAPERONES Per NMSU Legal Cunsel, NMSU Music Faculty and Students are nt respnsible fr students while they stay in the htel. Students must be chaperned by a representative frm their schl r a parent/guardian. Schls/studis will need t prvide directrs r chapernes fr their students attending. CONCERT ATTIRE All participants shuld plan fr cncert attire and bring with them the apprpriate items. Cncert attire is the same fr everyne. Black Pants, Black Dress Shirt, Black Scks, and Black Shes. NO MARCHING BAND UNIFORMS. REHEARSAL ITEMS All participants shuld bring a music stand. make sure t label the stand with participant s name and name f schl. Music and flders will be passed ut at the first rehearsal. Music will be made available t all participants fr nline dwnlad in rder t prepare fr the festival in January.
