S-VHS & VHS Players Nt supprted Existing equipment is being remved during the AV refresh cycle. Users shuld transfer material n S-VHS, VHS-C r VHS media t digital media. Amplifier must be able t prvide a Sund Pressure Level (SPL) f 85dBA in the rm centre withut any hum, distrtin r audible nise. 0 dbu = Vrms, 0 dbv = 1 Vrms, 0 dbv 2 dbu. There is n general standard fr music, but fr mvies, an average level f 85 db SPL with 20 db f headrm is cnsidered best practice. The prgramme sund amplifier and speaker systems shuld be designed and calibrated t this reference. Speech Reinfrcement Amplifier and Speakers Amplify the fllwing surces: White bard surface barrier micrphne (SMB) AKG. Lectern gseneck micrphne AKG. Radi micrphne lapel MiPr. Radi Micrphne handheld ptinal MiPr. 100v line utput amplifier pwer RMS rating depends n N. f ceiling munt speakers, and their wattage setting. Ensure all active level cntrls and I/O prts are labelled. Must be able t prvide a SPL (Sund Pressure Level) f 72dBu in the rm centre withut any hum, distrtin r audible nise. A 0dBu surce shall prduce a rm level f 72dBu +/- 3dB. Use balanced inputs XLR cnnectr wired with pin 2 being the ht r in phase signal. Speakers t be ceiling munted and be a min f 8 in diameter. It is measured in decibels (db) abve a standard reference level. The cmmnly used "zer" reference sund pressure in air is 20 µpa RMS, which is usually cnsidered the threshld f human hearing (at 1 khz). Speech Transmissin Index (STI) is a measure verall acustic perfrmance in teaching and learning space. A STI f.7 is cnsidered a minimum, the higher the better 1 being excellent. Wireless Micrphnes Digital Sund Prcessr (DSP) Micrphne and Line input levels and phantm pwer ptins. All I/O prts balanced. BSS, Crestrn and BiAmp are the preferred ptins. Lighting General Generally there are several pssible lighting cnfiguratins in mst teaching and learning envirnments: Main envirnment lighting n less than 500 lux as measured vertically n the tp f the student s desk. White bard area n less than 500 lux must have an even wash f light ver the entire whitebard surface. Speaker area. Lectern area. Full cntrl ver lighting levels by user. Nte: LUX: A unit f illuminatin equal t 1 lumen per square meter equals ft candle. Resident Cmputer Currently a HP Small Frm Factr (SFF) PC. The image is managed by the Image Team, part f Service Delivery, ITS. Windws 10 is the current standard perating system, r current versin. Audi utput is a 3.5mm stere female cnnectr with the internal speaker disabled Vide Display Prt++ frmat (DP) and als an analgue feed is available n a DB15 cnnectr, bth are available cncurrently. Rich Media Access Pints Rich Media Access Pint (RAPS) have been installed and used fr the Mediasite trial in pilt prductin and revised fr the Rich Media Learning prject which started in late 2013 The RAPs enable easy, rbust plug and play audi and vide cnnectins fr multi media recrding by prtable Mediasite units and ther multi media technlgy Assistive Listening Technlgy used is dependent n the rm requirements Infrared transmitter with lanyard neck lps are preferred Existing r new installatins may use inductive lp technlgy Anti-spill design - -40dBA at 3 t 4 x width. The tp buttn is labelled ON; the bttm is labelled ROOM OFF. Bth buttns are illuminated by a LED lamp, 24v DC supply. Rm Mvement Sensr A suitable mtin detectr(s) shall be installed int every autmated space. The mtin detectr shuld be able t reliably detect the smallest amunt f human mvement in any part f the rm, fr example the amunt f mvement caused by a few peple sitting still watching a mvie. Multiple detectrs can be used if this is nt achievable with a single detectr. After n detected mvement fr 55mins the AV system will be cmmanded t carry ut a rm reset and switch the rm t the OFF state. Nte: the resident PC, Mediasite recrder and the Crestrn AV cntrller are NOT turned ff. Nte: the rm mvement sensr may als be used t trigger the building maintenance system (BMS) and rm air cnditining system. 360 degree cverage dual element technlgy sensrs, IR & micrwave. Pwer Cnditining Thr RF-11 pwer cnditiners Prjectin Screen Size and Viewer Lcatin The size and psitin f prjectin screens in a teaching and learning envirnment is determined by the rm parameters. Factrs that will affect the screen size and lcatin include: The ceiling height. Desired aspect rati. Furthest viewers shuld be seated a distance f n mre than 5x the height f the viewed image. Clsest viewers shuld be psitined FURTHER than tw screen height multiples t the prjectin screen. Hrizntal Viewing Angle - viewers shuld be psitined within an arc f 45 degrees ff the centre line f prjectin. Vertical Viewing Angle viewers shuld be limited t 15 degrees maximum head tilt excursin abve hrizntal, when lking at the centre f the prjectin screen. Prjectin Screen Electrical 230v AC 50Hz reversible tube type mtr. Cnnect via 4 (HPM) pin plug n a flexible 4 cre cable and scket fixed near screen mtr and the plug t be easily un-plugged. Nte: D nt lcate the pin pwer scket in the ceiling vid. Screen UP/DWN Mtr cntrlled by relays munted in the distributin bard, ne relay fr each directin. Prjectin Screen Aspect Rati Aspect Rati is the rati f a picture's width t its height. Where pssible the preferred aspect rati is 16:10, r expressed as 1.60:1. Cmpsite vide and analgue TV images are native 4:3 aspect rati, r expressed as 1.33:1. HDTV and SDTV images are in a 16:9 aspect rati: Mvie theaters typically use an aspect rati f either 1.85:1, r 2.35:1. Letterbxing is displaying the full picture in the center f the screen, with black bars abve and belw it. When displaying a 4:3 image n a 16:10 screen there will be vertical bars n bth sides, these are called pillar-bx. When scaling a 16:10 image t fit n a 4:3 screen there will be rectangular areas at the tp and bttm f the image which are knwn as the letter bx. Prjectin Screen Surface and Perfrmance Cntrl f ambient/spilled light: Visibility f the prjected image depends n relative brightness f the image versus ambient light spilling nt the screen prjectin surface. 11 Aim is t minimise light falling n the screen, while prviding sufficient light t allw students t take ntes. This can be achieved with careful selectin, arrangement and cntrl f light fittings, max 30 Lux. Black brder increases the perceived cntrast rati. Matt white fibreglass screen material with gain f abut 1.0 anymre gain and the angle f viewing is cmprmised. Adjust screen stp frm the bttm f the screen image area f the screen t apprx. 1.35m abve flr level. It may be necessary t munt the screen abve the ceiling tiles t allw fr crrect screen size fr furthest viewer. 50mm side & bttm black brders. 300mm adjustable tp black leader. Help Phne A HELP Phne must be prvisined in all ITS supprted teaching and learning spaces. A label, attached t the tp f the lectern in a clearly visible psitin with the numbers fr assistance with AV and IT equipment in the teaching and learning spaces: Fr regular assistance t the ITS Help Desk call Fr urgent assistance call the htline number listed n the label which will call the dedicated HOTLINE phne lcated at the ITS Help Desk Phne t be fixed near r n the lectern and be easily accessible and usable t all, including wheel chair staff/students. Tuch Panel Tuch Panel design gals: Prvide technlgy that enables a mre effective way t cmmunicate with students by ensuring the design f a Tuch Panel makes the prcess f cntrlling the rm Audi Visual infrastructure an easy, and initiative flw prcess in line with current pedaggy best practice. Remember the 80/20 rule where 80% f the time nly 20% f the functinality is utilised s the design gal shuld be t fcus n the 20% and get it 100% rck slid and reliable Aim fr visual frm t fllw a functin/style design cncept Cnsistency in clurs, shapes, styles, sizes, fnts, labels, t be maintained acrss all Campus lcatins, this breeds familiarity which is a very imprtant factr fr user s cmfrt level while minimizing the learning curve and the frmal training requirement. Clur cmbinatins must cmplement i.e. aesthetically pleasing t prvide an easy-t-read interface. Keep the number f verall clurs used lw, make the fnts large (t assist users as their sight declines vertime) keep the saturatin lw but ensure gd cntrast between elements. Ensure the angle f the tuch panel t the users eyes is apprx. 45 degrees. Affrdance prvide the user with the visual cues t perfrm an actin. 12 pressed and what areas prvide feedback, i.e. an illuminated (flashing) brder, all in real time etc. Keep the fancy gimmicks t a minimum, aim fr an uncluttered panel appearance. All buttns t be single functin i.e. like a TV remte cntrl. Clearly indicate when a buttn has been enabled i.e. an illuminated brder but still see what that buttn purpse is and has changed state. Only the required characters shuld appear n the tuch panel. The level f autmatin shuld be kept in check there are limits t much autmatin can intimidate users. Very imprtant that the panel guides the user, hence the imprtance f the layut being intuitive and predicable. Have a rm reset buttn fr the user n the tuch panel, if user cntrl becmes unstable r cnnectivity appears lst. Nte: A rm reset takes 2 t 3 minutes befre the rm is available fr use again. Tuch panel t be enabled while the rm is an active state. HDTV and SDTV images are in a 16:9 aspect rati: Mvie theaters typically use an aspect rati f either 1.85:1, r 2.35:1.
