Intrductin Wrkspace Residency is a prject-based residency fr artists and researchers wrking in media art ffered by Squeaky Wheel Film and Media Art Center in Buffal, NY. Available fr applicants frm Buffal and acrss the U.S., the residency cnnects artists and researchers with resurces, time, and studi space t encurage the creatin f new wrk and make prgress n nging prjects. This year Squeaky Wheel als ffers a special residency dedicated fr ne artist t create a site-specific installatin r perfrmance at Buffal s Sil City. The Summer 2017 sessin will take place August 5 August 27, Selected applicants will have tailred access t equipment, technical cnsultatins, and facilities frm Squeaky Wheel and ur Wrkspace Residency partners, Buffal Game Space, Buffal Lab, and Sil City. A $900 stipend will be awarded t each resident. Limited travel and husing funds will be available n a cmpetitive basis fr select applicants. The facilities, gear, and expertise ffered with this residency prgram lends itself t the creatin f a wide variety f wrk including: film, vide, virtual reality, game develpment, 3D printing, snic arts, installatin, perfrmance, and mre. Participants can mix and match these benefits accrding t their needs. During their time here, residents will als have the pprtunity fr ne-n-ne critique sessins, and will be invited t a variety f site visits and ther activities explring Buffal, its cmmunity, and histry. Wrkspace Residency is made pssible with the generus funds frm the Natinal Endwment f the Arts, and the New Yrk State Cuncil n the Arts with the supprt f Gvernr Andrew M. 2 Applicatins fr the summer 2017 sessin are due by 11:59pm, n June 5 th, The summer 2017 sessin will accept applicatins fr the fllwing: ARTIST RESIDENCY, RESEARCH RESIDENCY, and SILO CITY RESIDENCY: ARTIST RESIDENCY - Artists are invited t prpse the prductin f new r inprgress media artwrks. Wrks can engage with film, vide, virtual reality, game develpment, 3D printing, snic arts, r ther frms, based n the technlgy and expertise ffered by Squeaky Wheel and Wrkspace partners, Buffal Game Space and Buffal Lab. Artists-in-residence will have pprtunities t share their wrk with ther residents and the cmmunity and engage in lcal activities. RESEARCH RESIDENCY - Artists, schlars, curatrs, writers, and therists are invited t prpse new r in-prgress research in the area f emergent media arts practices twards the publicatin f critical texts, schlarly research, r prductin f curatrial prjects. The researcher-in-residence will have pprtunities t share their research with resident artists and the cmmunity, and engage in lcal activities. SILO CITY RESIDENCY - Artists are invited t prpse a site-specific installatin r perfrmance at Sil City - the histric grain elevatrs lcated alng the Buffal River, a vast vertical, circular space with tremendus reverberative qualities. The residency supprts ne selected artist t present their wrk in ne f the sils n August 26, The resident will have scheduled access t Sil City grunds and are encuraged t utilize new media, sund, and emergent technlgies within the space. Travel t and frm Sil City is nt prvided by the residency; thus, access t a vehicle is highly recmmended. Applicants will be ntified n later than June 20, 2017 f the status f their applicatin. T be eligible applicants must be U.S. Citizens r Permanent s. Full-time students are ineligible t apply. 3 Artistic Merit cvers the technical, artistic, and intellectual merits f the prpsed prject. Achievability cnsiders whether the prpsed wrk can be accmplished within the time and resurces ffered by the residency. Ptential cvers the pssible life the wrk f art will have upn cmpletin, thrugh exhibitins, publicatins, presentatins, festivals, and the like. 3. Awards fr successful applicants Successful applicants will be awarded: $900 stipend upn cmpletin f the residency. Travel and husing funds will als be available n a cmpetitive basis fr applicants frm utside the Buffal Niagara Falls metrplitan area. Access t Squeaky Wheel thrughut the residency. Access t Squeaky Wheel s equipment and resurces in-kind, pending availability. Access t Buffal Lab and Buffal Game Space equipment and resurces in-kind, pending availability. 4. Expectatins ALL RESIDENTS are expected t be in Buffal frm August 5 August 27, The rientatin sessin will begin at 3pm n Saturday, August 5. ALL RESIDENTS are expected t spend a minimum f 30 hurs per week wrking n their prjects and participating in activities f the residency. Squeaky Wheel will prvide assistance where available during regular business hurs. ALL RESIDENTS will present a public talk and/r screening f their wrk (apprx. 30 min) that is pen t the public. ALL RESIDENTS will lead a master class, wrkshp r seminar t a limited number f participants (apprx. 2 hurs). ALL RESIDENTS will allw pht and vide dcumentatin f their wrk and prgress thrughut the residency and participate in a vide interview abut their prject. Dcumentatin will be used fr Squeaky Wheel archival and prmtinal purpses. ALL RESIDENTS will have the pprtunity t take up t three classes ffered by Wrkspace Residency partners t cmplement their strengths. Classes include, Intrductin t Vide Games (ffered by Buffal Game Space), Intrductin t 3D printing (ffered by Buffal Lab), and Intrductin t Mving Images (ffered by Squeaky Wheel).
