4 Inroducion The AJ-D250 is a digial VTR which uses 1/4 wide apes. The incorporaion of digial compression echnology ensures ha he deerioraion in picure and sound qualiy suffered during dubbing will be much less han wih convenional analog sysems. The model has a compac and lighweigh design, enabling i o be readily carried abou or easily insalled in a rack. The ineracive sysem, which is feaured for he uni s seings, enables hese seings o be performed while viewing he menus on he TV monior screen. The model AJ-D250 comes wih an RS-232C connecor which makes i possible o conrol he ediing operaions and exercise remoe conrol from a compuer using he RS-232C remoe conrol (AJ-A250 - available as an opional accessory). Feaures Compac and ligh This uni is 8 7 /16 (214 mm) wide, 5 1 /4 (132 mm) high and 15 7 /16 (391 mm) deep, and weighs 14.3 lb (6.5 kg). I is equipped wih grips so ha i can be carried easily. Encoder conrol The video oupu signals can be adjused using he iems on he seup menus. 2-channel digial audio wih high sound qualiy RS-232C conrol Use of he RS-232C remoe conrol (AJ-A250 - available as an opional accessory) enables no only ediing operaions o be performed bu remoe conrol can also be exercised, from a compuer by connecing he RS-232C cable beween from he compuer and his VTR. Compaible wih consumer-use equipmen Using he cassee adaper (AJ-CS750P: opional accessory), consumer-use cassee apes sho using a consumer-use digial camera can be played back on his uni. The LP mode is no suppored. Time codes The uni comes wih a buil-in ime code generaor (TCG)/ime code reader (TCR). Repea playback Any secion on a ape can be played back repeaedly for an unlimied number of imes or one ime only. Menu-driven seup The uni s seings are performed using an ineracive sysem while viewing he menus on he TV monior screen. Remoe conrol The uni can be operaed from disances up o 5 meers away when he AG-A11 remoe conrol (opional accessory) is conneced. Up o 184 minues of recording The uni uses wo ypes of cassee apes: one for news gahering (max. 66 minues) and he oher for general-purpose applicaions (184 minues: using AJ- 5P92LP ). The uni s compac design accommodaes apes wih a 1/4 widh. For AJ-5P92LP cassee apes, use a VTR supporing DVCPRO (25 Mbps) 184 minue apes. 4

They can be used only for playback on his uni and only wih he cassee adaper (opional accessory). Long-playing apes (80 min. in sandard mode, 120 min. in LP mode) canno be used wih his uni. I is recommended ha Panasonic brand consumer-use DV apes be used. Remember ha insering a cassee ape wihou using he cassee adaper can cause malfuncioning. Tapes wih up o 66 minues of recording/playback ime (AJ-P12MP, AJ-P24MP, AJ-P33MP, AJ-P46MP, AJ-P66MP) Tapes wih up o 184 minues of recording/playback ime (AJ-P34LP, AJ-P66LP, AJ-P94LP, AJ-P126LP, AJ-5P92LP ) For AJ-5P92LP cassee apes, use a VTR supporing DVCPRO (25 Mbps) 184 minue apes. When he uni has been lef sanding in he STILL mode, he sandby OFF (half loading) mode will be esablished afer one minue has elapsed. ODuring consumer-use ape search and sill picure operaions, a display indicaing ha he ime code canno be read may appear. 10

11 Operaion Turning on he power/insering a cassee Before proceeding o operae he uni, make sure ha he uni has been conneced properly. 1 Turn 2 Inser 3 Check on he uni s power. he cassee ape. Inser i a he prescribed posiion wihou forcing i in any way. ha he STOP lamp is lighed. When he ape is insered, he cylinder sars roaing auomaically, he ape is loaded, and he STOP mode is esablished. I is possible o change he mode when a ape is insered using he seings in Iem No. 104 TAPE IN MOD of he Seup menu. 12 Operaion STOP mode 1 When he STOP buon is pressed, he STOP mode is esablished. The STOP lamp lighs, and he ape sops raveling. OIn order o proec he ape, he ape proecion mode will be esablished when he ime seleced for he STILL TIMER seup menu iem seing has elapsed. (See page 31) When he STOP, REW, FF or PLAY buon is pressed, he corresponding mode will be esablished. <Checkpoin for STILL TIMER seing> ORepeaedly using he same locaions on he same ape will increase he cumulaive sandby ime a hose locaions. 14 Operaion Pause/record (frame-o-frame coninuiy) 1 Press 2 Press 3 Press he PAUSE/STILL buon while he cassee ape is playing. When ON has been seleced as he AUTO BACK seup menu iem seing, he ape will be rewound for abou 2 seconds saring from he posiion where he PAUSE/STILL was pressed. (See page 29) he REC buon o se he uni o he REC PAUSE mode. The monior display now swiches o he E-E screen. he PAUSE/STILL buon o commence recording. The ape ravels o he posiion where he PAUSE/STILL was pressed in sep 1 above, and recording commences. The E-E screen is now displayed. Playback 1 Inser 2 Press 3 Press he cassee ape. he PLAY buon. Normal playback is now commenced. he STOP buon o end he playback. The uni is now se o he STOP mode. Check ha he SERVO lamp has lighed during playback. The playback image will be disurbed if he lamp is off or flashing. Cue/review Hold down he FF or REW buon during playback. While his buon is pressed, he ape will be cued or reviewed a abou 10 imes he normal ape speed. Normal playback is resored when he buon is released. OWhen ON has been seleced as he SEARCH CUE seup menu iem seing, he CUE rack sound will be oupu during cue or review. (See page 34) Sill picure playback Press he PAUSE/STILL buon during playback. Normal playback is resored when he PAUSE/STILL buon is pressed again. O No sound will be heard during sill picure playback. 14

15 Operaion Frame by frame advance When he FF or REW buon is pressed during sill picure playback, he ape will be advanced forward or backward one frame a a ime. ONo sound will be heard during frame by frame advance. Audio swiching The AUDIO OUT SELECT buon is used o swich o he desired sound. By pressing his buon, he audio oupu is swiched o he modes in he sequence shown below.
