6 Informaion for he user Inended Use Cubis models are high-resoluion precision and analical scales. The were speciall developed for exac deerminaion of maerial mass in liquid, pase, powder or solid form. Appropriae conainers mus be used for each pe of sample maerial. Scale capaci depends on he Cubis model used. Capaciies range from ± 0.01 mg (lowes mass deerminaion) o 12.0 kg (highes mass deerminaion). Cubis models are designed speciall for use in research, educaion and da-o-da laboraor asks in science and indusr. The are designed o be used exclusivel indoors. Cubis models can be operaed sandalone, conneced o a PC, or in a nework. 6 Cubis MSA User Manual

For errorfree daa communicaion, parameers for baud rae, pari, handshake mode and characer forma mus be idenical for boh unis. Seings can be changed in Seup o cusomize he scale. In addiion o hese seings, he daa oupu for he scale can also be made dependen on several condiions. The condiions are described in he respecive applicaion programs. No errors are generaed if no peripheral device is conneced o he scale. Handshake The scale inerface (Sarorius Balance Inerface = SBI) has ransmi and receive buffers. Differen handshake modes can be se in he Seup menu: Hardware handshake (CTS/DTR) Sofware handshake (XON, XOFF) Hardware handshake Wih a 4-wire inerface, 1 addiional characer can be ransmied afer CTS ("clear o send"). Sofware handshake Sofware handshake is conrolled wih XON and XOFF. When a device is swiched on, XON mus be ransmied o enable an conneced device o communicae. When sofware handshake is configured in he Seup menu, hardware handshake becomes acive afer sofware handshake. The daa ransmission sequence is as follows: scale be > compuer (rans- be > (receiving miing be > device) device) be > < XOFF be > be > (Pause) < XON be > be > be > be > Transmiing device: Once XOFF has been received i prevens furher ransmission of characers. Once XON has been received i re-enables he ransmiing device o send daa. Receiving device: To preven oo man conrol commands from being received a one ime, XON is no ransmied unil he buffer is almos emp. Acivaing daa oupu You can define he daa oupu parameer so ha oupu is acivaed eiher when a prin command is received or auomaicall snchronized wih he displa or a defined inervals (see applicaion programs and Auoprin seings).
