14 7. ADVANCED OPERATION General Calibratin Precautins 1. T verify accuracy r t calibrate yur instrument, hang a sample length f material vertically, and suspend knwn weight(s) frm the ppsite end. (See Figure 9.) 2. When perfrming this test, use a micrmeter t measure yur material diameter and verify it is dimensinally within tlerance and nt ut f rund. 3. Only use free-hanging weights which are traceable t Natinal Standards. 4. Never use any tensining device that attempts t cnvert rtatinal trque values int tensin lads, as these types f systems are highly inaccurate. Als, any lad cell system must be rutinely checked fr accuracy using traceable weights, as these types f systems are als highly inaccurate and generally d nt meet minimum repeatable accuracy standards. Check Accuracy 1. T check the accuracy f yur meter, first hang the test material and suspend weights frm it as described in General Calibratin Precautins abve. 2. Select frm yur meter s menu the material type and material diameter crrespnding t yur test material. 3. Befre engaging the instrument nt the material, zer the instrument by hlding it in the same attitude yu ll be taking the readings, and pressing the Enter r Zer buttn. This will eliminate any small tare effects. 4. Take readings alng the material. FOR BEST RESULTS ALWAYS TAKE SEVERAL READINGS OF THE MATERIAL TENSION BY DISENGAGING AND THEN RE- ENGAGING THE INSTRUMENT ON THE MATERIAL. 5. If the meter is accurately calibrated, readings will fall within 1% f the fullscale capability f the instrument: TX-125-1: +/- 1.3 grams TX : +/- 10 grams TX : +/- 50 grams If yu have additinal questins, please cntact Tensitrn fr assistance. 15 Calibrate Instrument *IMPORTANT: THIS FEATURE SHOULD ONLY BE USED BY A CALIBRATION FACILITY USING CERTIFIED AND TRACEABLE DEAD WEIGHTS. DO NOT USE THIS FEATURE FOR A SIMPLE ACCURACY CHECK. NOTE 1: TX-1 instruments are calibrated fr Wire and Filaments thrugh a factry prcess nt available t users. Use the calibratin prcedure belw t add r change a calibratin in the CUSTOM menu. NOTE 2: When calibrating yur TX-1 instrument, tensin values must be entered in grams. 1. T add r change a calibratin in the CUSTOM menu f yur TX-1 meter, first hang the material fr the calibratin as described in General Calibratin Precautins abve. (Yu will suspend the weights later in the prcess.) 2. Access the setup menu: Turn n yur meter and press the DOWN ARROW until SETUP is highlighted, then press ENTER. 3. If there isn t yet a CUSTOM NAME in the menu fr the material, then add ne as fllws: Scrll dwn until CUSTOM NAMES is highlighted, and press ENTER. Scrll dwn t CUSTOM1 (r t the next available CUSTOM entry), and press ENTER. Using a cmbinatin f the UP, DOWN and ENTER buttns, key in a name fr yur custm material. 4. Yu may btain the passwrd by ing service@tensitrn.cm. Scrll up r dwn t select the CUSTOM NAME fr the material want t calibrate, and press ENTER. Enter the number f calibratin pints yu will be using (at least five, and n mre than ten). Zer cunts as the first pint. ENTER WEIGHT fr each data pint: Zer is the first value and is already prgrammed. Each successive data pint shuld be a higher weight than the previus ne. Data pints are typically distributed evenly alng the tensin range. (Example: With 5 data pints fr 1000 grams, use 0, 200, 400, 600 and 800.) When the display reads Zer Unit, hld the instrument (NOT engaged n the material) in the attitude that yu plan t d the calibratin (likely hrizntal). Then, press ZERO. As the display prmpts yu, suspend the crrect weight frm yur material. Then clamp the instrument n the material and press ENTER.Repeat fr each weight as prmpted. TX-1 Series Instrument pg. 15
