1 Beverly Shores Elementary Daily Guest Reader of the book Happiness is a Warm Blanket Charlie Brown Each grade level will choose an author of books that they love reading. They will select their favorite book and record a short video of why they love reading books from that author. They will submit the videos and the most convincing video will air on the morning announcements on Wednesday. OR Students can write a letter to their favorite author either critiquing their work or offering an alternative point of view/ending. We will mail the letters to their favorite authors. Students will practice letter writing and addressing envelopes. Parents: Make dessert time reading time Read to your children while they enjoy their evening snack. Pk-5th grade classes will pair up with another class and read for 20 mins. students will have the opportunity to share their love of reading and why they chose that book to read. Pk-1st Mo Willem s Pigeon Party the classes listened to Mo Willem Pigeon series books for the month. Some will celebrate now checking out 2 library books and others will celebrate the joy of hearing his books read aloud. The class that reads the most will win a pizza party. The students can also make a collage of the stories they read. 2nd-5th Hats off to great Reading the students can wear a silly hat anytime they are reading a book. Parents: Make dessert time reading time Read to your children while they enjoy their evening snack.
3 Sawgrass Bay Elementary School Book Talk Day Students will bring their favorite book to read during IDR time and share their book with a partner. Street sign will be unveiled in the car rider line encouraging reading at home. Teacher s Favorite Book Day Teachers will read their favorite book to their class and have students complete an activity related to the book. Literacy Night Activities Sports Theme Students may wear sports theme shirts and Team Up for reading. Fairy Flashlight Reading Students will read by a special flashlight from their teachers. (LED finger flashlights as a gift to encourage reading at home.) Family Literacy Night 5:30-7:30 Favorite Character Dress Up Day Staff and students may come to school dressed as their favorite book character. Teacher Guest Readers: Listen to some of your favorite staff members read some enchanting books and poetry. Magical Garden Storytelling: Come to our butterfly garden and have a magical, musical experience with Mrs. Velez. Book Tasting: Join us in The Media Center with Mrs. Stanley to explore books with your family in a unique and fun way! Special Animal Guest Readers: Clover and Lilly the alpacas from Lunasea Farms will be in the PE pavilion to enjoy their favorite farm animal books with you. Reading Paws Dogs and Cat: Come to room 140 and we will have plenty of books for you to read to your new furry friends. Photo Booth: Make your own Bookmark in the lobby with pictures of you and your family. Giant Scrabble: Play word games in the media center.

In connection with the Annual Mount Dora Storytellers event, a guest storyteller meet with students Pre-K to 2 nd grade. th Character Book Parade Students and teachers dress up as their favorite book characters and parade thro the courtyard. The parade begins at 9:15 am. th Spelling Bee Classroom Spelling Bee winners participate in our school-wide Spelling Bee. The Spelling Bee will begin at 9:00 am in the cafeteria. st Read Across Lost Lake Teachers select parents, teachers and community members to read in classroom and help promote literacy. 8 Astatula Elementary School Monday- Wednesday Read a portion of How I became a Pirate by David Shannon on the morning announcements. Collect books each morning for the book swap. Set Sail for Reading Each class will create an acrostic poem or an acronym for the word PIRATE. The theme will be reading. What book is your treasure? Student will write on a gold coin what their favorite book is and why. The responses will be grade level appropriate. Sea Worthy Stories - If you are traveling, what books would you pack and why? BINGO Family night and Book Swap from 6-7. Winners from the game will receive a book as a prize. Anchor Away Students will dress up as a pirate and at a specific time will read with a matey. The students who were not able to come to the family night will come to the book swap in the morning. There will be a guest reader on January 23 rd.

During iblock time, find a friend and pair up to share your books by reading to each other. Read to a friend, read to a teacher! Fill the rooms and hallways with the sounds of reading and sharing the love of reading with each other. Literary Book Hunt. Time to hunt for the next great book out there. Free books will be scattered throughout the campus in student-friendly areas the school all day. That means no books will in dangerous places! There might be one where you looked before so keep your eyes open and find that next great book! Read and Let the World Go By. Get lost in your reading today. For twenty minutes, our campus will go quiet as we stop to treasure the powerful silence of reading.
