Classes will work to successfully earn a BINGO. WOW - WORD OF THE DAY Students are invited to wear a selected word (school appropriate) either pinned to their shirt, as a necklace tag, or as a headband. It will be their job o tell others about their "Wow" Word when asked about it. Students may also ldress to match their word if they'd like. Example: word is Frazzled - have the word frazzled pinned to shirt and dress to look like a frazzled person. BOOK SWAP Students that have tickets from bringing in gently used/grade appropriate books will come to media center to select a book (or books) at the book swap. BOOK CHARACTER PARADE Staff and students are encouraged to dress as their favorite book character s we have a fun parade around the school.

19 South Daytona Elementary -26, 2017 January 22nd romoting Kindness: We will be combining CLW with our Kids for Peace, United Nations Kindness Week through our school guidance couuselor and media specialist. Literacy activities will incorporate he kindness theme. Special Kindness Assembly with the South Daytona Mayor On the morning news, guidance counselor will speak about kindness acts around the world. She will introduce the daily "Kindness Checklist" and will challenge the students and staff to perform as many kind deeds as you can in one day. Each student will be given a kindness checklist to check off and record their daily acts of kindness. Stait Book Drive to collect new and gently used books to donate to local shelters. Read books about kindness during media special area, with special guidance counselor visits to classrooms & while in class during ELA time. Daily activities for kindness at walk and talk during lunch. Each student/class will have 15 minutes of silent uninterrupted reading time. rd January 24th On morning news highlight students and staff sharing examples of acts of kindness witnessed on campus. Art special area: Read kindness story and begin art projects with kindness theme. (Grades K 5) The best kindness art projects in each grade will be put on display in the media center and hallway bulletin boards. Music special area read, learn and sing songs related to kindness. (Grades K-5) Daily activities for kindness at walk and talk during lunch. Each student/class will have 15 minutes of silent and uninterrupted reading time. Students and staff can tum in written nominations of their peers that exhibit kindness to the media center. Written nominations must include how the student showed kindness and why their actions display the kindness trait. Letter writing campaign: Students will be writing letters of thanks to their bus drivers, cafeteria workers, school resource officer, and staff. Letters will be on display for the school to read before giving them to their recipients. Daily activities for kindness at walk and talk during lunch. Each student/class will have 15 minutes of uninterrupted and silent reading time.

News Team members will read school's contest entry "It Takes Spirit". SUPER HERO DAY! Wear your favorite superhero shirt today to show that reading is your super power. Teachers can read about superheroes or a book with a superhero. Celebrations can be linked to Superheroes for today! Guest Readers will visit classrooms and read Superhero books.

Child with closest guess wins a book. *Morning news - Teacher shares favorite book each morning. *Book Drive to benefit stocking a library at Renew Homeless Shelter with children. The remainder of the books will be distributed to additional shelters in the community. Door Decorating (K-2) Each class chooses a book and this will also represent the character they dress up as for the parade on Friday. 25 Tomoka Elementary -Kick off Celebrate Literacy Week with announcements for door contest, poster contest, dress up days, and 5th grade book talk by. Draw the winning class for first mystery reader. Teachers will introduce the poster competition to their students. Students create heir own poster title "Find Yourself in a Book." Teacher's may choose to do in!~lass, assign at home, or make optional. All posters are due by January t5'h. Teachers and staff members will vote on the best poster.
