SAFETY PROCEDURES should be developed by habi so ha when he echnician is rushed wih re pair work, he auomaically akes precauions. 2. A GOOD PRACTCE, when working on any uni, is o firs ground he chassis and o use only one hand when esing circuiry. This will avoid he pos sibiliy of carelessly puing one hand on chassis or ground and he oher on an elecrical connecion which could cause a severe elecrical shock. 3. Exreme care should be used in HANDLNG THE PCTURE TUBE as rough handling may cause i o implode due o amospheric pressure ( lbs. per sq. in.). Do no nick or scrach glass or subjec i o any undue pressure in removal or insallaion. When handling, safey goggles and heavy gloves should be worn for proecion. Discharge picure ube by shoring he anode connecion o chassis ground (no cabine or oher mouning pars). When discharging, go from ground o anode or use a well insulaed piere of wire. When servicing or repairing he monior, if he cahode ray ube is replaced by a ype of ube oher han ha specified under he Moorola Par Number as original equipmen in his Service Manual. hen avoid prolonged exposure a close range o un shielded areas of he cahode ray ube. Possible danger of personal injury from unnecessary exposure o X-ray radiaion may resul. 4. An SOLATON TRANSFORMER should always be used during he servicing of a uni whose chassis is conneced o one side of he power line. Use a rans former of adequae power raing as his proecs he serviceman from accidens resuling in personal injury from elecrical shocks. will also proec he chassis and is componens from being damaged by accidenal shors of he circuiry ha may be inadverenly inroduced during he service operaion. 5. Always REPLACE PROTECTVE DEVCES, such as fishpaper, isolaion resisors and capaciors and shields afer working on he uni. 6. f he HGH VOLTAGE is adjusable, i should always be ADJUSTEJJ o he level recommended by he manufacurer. f he volage is increased above he normal seing, exposure o unnecessary X-ray radiaion could resul. High volage can accuraely be measured wih a high volage meer conneced from he anode lead o chassis. 7. This volage ; divided beween R 106, R 107 and R 109. Resisor R 108 mis he range of R 107. The volage appearing on he rm of poeniomeer R 107 (24 V ADJ. conrol) is he eference inpu o he invering inpu (-) of reference mplifier C101. emperaure compensaed zener diode, V R 101, esabishes a fixed reference volage a he non-invering inpu +) o C101. Resisors Rl 10 and R111 and diode D105 >rovide bias curren for V R 101. The juncion of R 110 and 111 is he +13V source for he horizonal oscillaor, C402. Regulaor VR101 is also he 5 vol source for he nonior circuiry. Operaing volage for C101 is derived rom resisor nework R 101 and R 105. l.n increase in oupu curren will cause a decrease in ouiu volage due o inernal supply impedance. This will :ause he volage a he base of 0102 o become more iosiive via he invering amplifier C101. Wih he base nore posiive, 0102 will conduc more, increasing is :ollecor curren. This increases he base curren in fhe resul is increased oupu curren from 0101, raising :he oupu volage and mainaining he proper oupu 1olage level. Elecrolyic capacior C101, secion "A", filers he bridge recifier (D101-D104) oupu, while secion "B" provides addiional filering of he +24V regulaor oupu. Capacior C103 filers he +5 vol source. R102 is he load resisor for Resisors R 103, R 104 bias Capacior C102 increases regulaion a high frequencies for improved ransien response. Video Amplifier (Refer o Figure 20) The linear video amplifier consiss of wo sages, 0201 and 0202, which are conneced in a cascode configuraion. This common emier-common base arrangemen grealy reduces he effec of Miller capaciy (when compared o a convenional single ransisor video amp i ier /oupu sage). A TL compaible (whie posiive) video signal, approximaely vols P-P, is DC coupled o he base of 0201 via R202. R203 and C201 provide high frequency compensaion o mainain a fla response when 0201 and 0202 conduc. During a no-signal condiion, video driver ransisor 0201 is off. A he same ime, video oupu ransisor 0202 is base biased a 6.0V by R217 and R218. When a video signal is applied o he base of 0201, i urns on, allowing 0202 o conduc. The resulan oupu is developed across collecor load resisor R210 and DC coupled o he CRT cahode via peaking coil L201 and resisor R is proeced from CRT arcing by a spark gap buil ino he CRT socke, and R211 furher isolaes 0202 from ransciens. Capacior C204 shors video frequency signals from he base of 0202 o ground. Peaking coil L201 increases he high frequency response of he video amplifier. When he monior is urned off, he decrease in he 24V supply volage is coupled hrough capacior C202 and resisor R206 o pin 1 of C201 A. This TTL inpu is normally held in he high sae by resisor R207. The falling 24V supply swiches C201A o he low sae a pin 1, which is invered o a high a pin 2 of C201A; hen in vered o a low again by C201 F a pin 12. The open collecor oupu of C201 F, now in he low sae (conduc ing), pulls R209 o ground o become he emier resisor of Wih 6.0 vols on is base, 0202 sauraes. The resuling low collecor volage on 0202 is coupled o he CRT cahode causing i o conduc heavily. The large cahode curren in he CRT discharges he second anode during scan collapse. The second anode is compleely dis charged before he scan currens collapse compleely so ha a spo can no form. Verical Scan (Refer o Figure 21) Negaive-going TTL level pulses pass hrough resisor R301 and proecive diodes D301 and D302 o C201 B. The inpu o C201 B acceps, hrough jumper JU302, negaive verical sync. Oupu pulses from C201 E (pin 10) are differeniaed by capacior C301 and resior R306. Diode D303 couples only he negaive-going spikes from he differeniaor circui o he sync inpu of C301 (pin 8). R307 and R308 provide inpu curren imiing. The sync inpu (pin 8) performs several funcions. srips away any random noise ha may be presen on he inpu ine and condiions he verical pulses for processing. also convers he inpu volage pulses o curren o conrol he inernal oscillaor. The oscillaor generaes a non-symmerical square wave wih a shor duy cycle a he verical scan frequency (50 o 60 Hz). Componens R310, R311 and C304 deer mine he frequency. This square wave signal is applied o a ramp generaor whose slope and amp! iude is deermined by R312, R313, C305 and C306. The ramp volage signal is applied o a buffer sage which isolaes he ramp generaor from he oupu sages and reduces any loading effec on he previous sages. Componens R314, R316 and R315 reshape he ramp volage o make i exremely linear. The oupu signal from pin 4 ( C301) drives he verical deflecion coils direcly via coupling capacior C312. Componens R321 and C311 provide damping o preven any oscillaions in he oupu circui. R320, R322, R319, R318, R323, C310 and C308 provide AC and DC feed back for he oupu sage o mainain proper gain and lineariy. When he scan reaches he boom of he screen a sync pulse iniiaes rerace. To insure a quick reurn o he op of he screen he volage across he yoke is doubled during rerace o quickly discharge he yoke inducance. This volage doubling circui consiss of diode D304, cap acior C302 and a ransisor nework in C301. Capacior C314 provides addiional (exernal) compensaion for C301, pin 11. Resisor R325 (when presen) is used o up-cener he raser and video display. Posiive-going verical rae pulses(@ 25V P-P), from C301 3, are supplied o he composie blanking circui (when presen) on he composie video circui card.

Verical Processing/Scan Circui Horizonal Orin/Sync Delay and Regeneraor (Refer o Figure 221 Negaive-going horizonal rae sync is coupled o he inpu of C401 B hrough he proecive nework consising of resisor R401 and diodes D401 and D402. C401 B is a monosable mulivibraor wih is ime consan being esablished by resisor R403, HOR Z. DELAY conrol R402, and capacior C401. A posiive pulse appears a pin 13 of C401 B, he leading edge coinciden wih he seleced leading edge of horizonal sync and he raling edge deermined by he HORZ. DELAY conrol, R402. The falling edge of his pulse riggers C401A, anoher monosable mulivibraor, whose ime consan (esablished by R406 and C4031 regenerae a posiive pulse a pin 5 of C401 A. Phase Deecor (Refer o Figure 22) The phase deecor consiss of wo diodes D403 and D404 in a keyed clamp c1rcu;,. s Juncion is o develop a conrol vo!age for svnchronizing he horizonal oscillaor wih he incoming sync pulses. Two inpus are required o generae he required oupu; one from he horizonal sync regeneraor C401 A, and one from he horizonal oupu circui, The required oupu mus be of he proper polariy and ampliude o correc phase differences beween he inpu horizonal sync pulses and he horizonal ime base.. The phase deecor correcion volage is coupled hrough resisor R414 o pins 2 and 6 of C402 o vary he frequency of he oscillaor. A second inpu o C402, pin 5, allows conrol of he oscillaor free run frequency by means of R418, HORZ. HOLD conrol. The non-symmerical oupu of C402 (pin 3) 1s coupled o he horizonal driver ransisor, 0401, hrough C411 and curren limiing resisor R419. D405 proecs 0401 from reverse base-emier volage operaes as a swich o drive he horizonal oupu ransisor 0402 hrough ransformer T 401. T 401 is a volage sepdown ransformer o provide a low impedance drive o R421 is a curren limiing resisor for 0401 and C414 is an AC bypass capacior. R420 and C413 damp he ransformer o preven ringing when 0401 goes ino cuoff. Figure 23. Phase Synchronizaion Waveforms Horizonal Oupu (Refer o Figure 24) Wihou considering he sync pulses, he sawooh wave would cause curren flow ino capacior C405 when i is negaive, and ou of C405 when i is posiive. Since he sawooh is symmerical abou is AC axis, he charge and discharge currens of C405 are equal. C405 would herefore average a zero volage level. A sync pulse (waveform A, Figure 231, clamping he sawooh as i passes hrough is AC axis (waveform B, Figure 23), will no affec is posiive and negaive symmery. Therefore, he average volage on C405 would remain zero. However, if he horizonal ime base begins o lag, he sync pulse will clamp he sawooh o ground a a poin below is AC axis, resuling in a non-symmerical charge on C405. This clamping acion will cause he sawooh's AC axis o shif o a poin above he ground reference (waveform C, Figure 23). Therefore, mos of he sawooh's waveform is now above ground which will produce a posiive volage on C405. This is he correc polariy o cause he horizonal oscillaor o speed up o correc he phase lag. Likewise, if he horizonal ime base is leading he sync pulse, he sawooh will be clamped o ground a a poin above is AC axis. This clamping acion will cause he sawooh 's AC axis o shif o a poin below he ground reference (waveform D, Figure 23). Now mos of he sawooh's waveform is below ground, which will produce a negaive volage on C405. This is he correc polariy o cause he horizonal oscillaor o slow down. The volage level on C405 is dependen upon which poin of he sawooh is clamped. This also deermines how far is AC axis will shif above or below ground. R412, C407, R413 and C408 comprise he phase deecor filer. The bandpass of his filer is designed o provide correcion of horizonal oscillaor phase wihou ringing or huning. The secondary of T401 provides he required low drive impedance for Componens R422 and C415 form a ime consan for fas urn-off of The horizonal oupu ransisor, 0402, is simply a swich ha is urned on and off a he horizonal scan rae by he drive signal applied o is base. A sawooh curren hrough he deflecion coils is required o sweep he beam linearly across he CRT screen. The sweep begins a he cener of he CRT and sweeps o he righ. This happens when 0402 is urned on and is collecor volage drops o near zero. C419 begins discharging hrough he deflecion coils o deflec he beam o he righ edge of he CRT. A his ime, 0402 cus off and C419 ceases o supply curren o he deflecion coils. However, an induced volage appears across he deflecion coil as he magneic field collapses, and an oscillaion occurs beween he deflecion coils and C416. Dunng he firs hal cycle of his oscillaion, he induced volage 1s fel across he collecor of now cu off 0402, C416, and he primary of T 402, he fly back ransformer. This volage 1s sepped up by T402 and recified o produce he required high volage ha is applied o he 2nd anode o he CRT. The elecron beam is Jlso defleced o he lef edge of he CRT a his ime ljecause he collapsing magneic field o he deflecion coils reverses polariy. During he second half cycle of he deflecion coils/c416 oscillaion, he volage on he collecor of sill cu off 0402 becomes negaive. A his ime, camper diode 0406 becomes forward biased and begins conducion. The deflecion coil curren gradually decreases o zero during damper conducion allowing he beam o sweep linearly o he cener of he screen. 18

8 The horizonal rerace pulse charges C422 hrough D407 o provide operaing volage for G2 of he CRT. Momenary ransiens a he colleaor of 0402, should hey occur, are limied o he volage on C422 since D407 will conduc if he collecor volage exceeds his value. Coil L402 is a magneically biased Horiz. Lineariy coi ha shapes he deflecion curren for opimum race lineariy. Coil L401 is a series Horiz. Widh conrol. Componens R425 and C418, R424 and C417 are damping nework componens for he Horizonal Lineariy (L402) and Widh (L401) conrols. The 24 vol supply o he horizonal oupu is coupled hrough diode D409 o pin 3 of he ransformer, T402. Auoformer acion of he ransformer booss he effecive supply volage o he ransformer o he 70 vols appearing on pin 1 of T402. This volage is filered by C205 and provides he 70 vol source for he chassis. A capaciive divider, C421 and C420, and diode D408 provides a -70 vol supply for he CRT Gl elecrode. Posiive-going horizonal rae pulses (@400V P-P), from pin 3 of T402, are supplied o he composie blanking circui (when presen) on he composie video circui card. Dynamic Focus (Refer o Figure 24) Due o he geomery of a CRT, he elecron beam ravels a greaer disance when defleced o a corner as compared o he disance raveled a he cener of he CRT screen. As a resul of hese various disances raveled, opimum focus can be obained a only one poin. For general applicaions, an adequae adjusmen can be realized by seing he focus while viewing sme poin mid-way beween he cener of he CRT screen and a corner, hus opimizing he overall screen focus. When an applicaion requires a igher specificaion, one of he simples mehods for improvemen is o modulae he focus volage a a horizonal sweep rae. Now opimum focus volage is made variable on he horizonal axis of he CRT, which compensaes for he beam ravel along his axis. The AC componen of he focus volage is developed by sepping up he volage across capacior C419 via ransformer T 403. The linear curren ramp in he horizonal yoke winding, L 1 B, al so flows hrough capacior C419. The ramp is inegraed, he resul being a parabolic waveform. This parabola is coupled hrough capacior C424 and resisor R433 o he primary of ransformer T403. The approximaely 250V P-P parabola presen a pin 6 of T403 is superimposed on he DC volage from he FOCUS conrol, R429, via capacior C423. This mixed AC and DC volage resuls in a waveform of proper phase and ampliude, which is coupled hrough isolaing resisor R431 o he CRT focus anode.
